Hey everyone, I hope you enjoy todays video! Please take what is applicable for you and simply leave the rest. As always, this video hopes to offer you a multitude of options, but is keenly aware that there is only so much we can do depending on our circumstances. Let me know your thoughts in the comments ! Reduce the number of pointless photos you take and live in the moment not through a lense. Have learnt this the hardware with the kids. Not everything needs to be documented for the world to see made so much more memories this way ❤️❤️

I keep my phone in airplane mode most of the time, usually i use only wifi, and because of less RF pollution exposure my body feels better, the most satisfying thing for me at the moment is to go in to the woods and take out the trash that idiots left behind, my grandfather thinks I am crazy and also warned me of the gossip that some neighbors have started ( i guess they feel shame for leaving the trash in the woods!), Going vegan changed and saved my life couple of times untill now, since last time I became vegan my minimalism instinct has grown automatically and it feels good seeing that money last for longer period of times and actually spending less than before!
By the way, I love your videos, keep up the good work!🥰

Along the lines of being mindful of how often I check my phone, since I've turned off unnecessary notifications, I actually like to keep my phone on loud rather than vibrate/silent. This way, I don't keep checking for texts or other notifications I might have missed and then succumbing to distractions. I also like to customize my sounds so I know what the notification is before I even look at my phone and decide in the moment if whatever it is can wait or not.

Just set my phone to grayscale - can't wait to see how this impacts my usage!
I've already done a "Swap" and carry a kindle with me more or less everywhere so I can read a few pages of a book instead of scrolling on my phone!

You said many times to take/leave what you can, but here are some alternatives I thought of during your video that people may find helpful.
    - If you do not have a land line and are worried about missing an emergency call by keeping your phone out of your bedroom, use a silent/emergency setting where no notifications (besides the alarm clock) will sound. But if someone calls your phone, hangs up, and immediately calls you again, the phone will register it as an emergency and ring.
    - Use parental controls on your own phone so you can limit the time you spend on apps without deleting them, or blocking off times of day you don't want to be tempted to play games/check apps.
    - I keep a list of things I need to buy ahead of actually running out, and look for deals. (Like period underwear that can be very expensive) many store's sites will now allow you to pair down the number of emails you receive so you do not unsubscribe entirely, such as only once a week or once a month, or pair down the type of emails you receive like yes for sales and no for new products.
    - If you can't stand silence due to mental focus issues or tinnitus issues, listen to music without lyrics or download special apps that have specific tones for downing out ear ringing without distracting you.
    - Make use of your favorite lists in apps like Instagram or twitter. That way you can log on, only look at posts for your favorites to keep up with friends and family, but avoid all the suggested posts and users you follow for those 'sometimes' moments when you want to laugh at memes or read quotes.

One thing that really helped me to change my phone habits was turning on the notifications of e.g. WhatsApp. It might sound strange at first but before that my phone was always muted so I kept checking to see if I had any new messages. Then I decided to mute all my WhatsApp groups and turn on notifications for things that actually matter to me. To use my phone as a phone!! :D

I’ve been continuously searching for that one magic strategy that will help me simplify my life. So far, my best strategy has been “Move 1 Thing” (or “M1T” for short) which I track in my daily Habit Tracker. “M1T” simply means that everyday I look around my house for at least one item that I can “move” to a better place. This might entail filing some papers, sorting through a few books or recipes, placing an item in the outgoing donation box, doing a quick repair on a household item, or perhaps mending some clothing. “Move 1 Thing” works for me by encouraging me to deal with stuff on a daily basis before items pile up and become a burden that I am tempted to ignore. Highly recommend “M1T”!! Great video today Immy… I know I’ll be using many of your practical strategies. 💦🌎Ⓜary💕

highly recommend not always taking your phone with you. i go for walks once or twice a day, i used to always bring my phone, not really to use but as a "safety blanket" almost. i started leaving it at home since the start of the year, i got really anxious at first, but now i'm used to it. i think it's a good way to get used to not always having access to your phone, if you then some time don't bring it, you are not in total panic.

@@arinaira1417 is it possible for you to start slowly? i don't know if you take walks for example, but is it possible to start with 10 minutes and slowly go from there? it took me about 2 weeks to feel a bit less anxious and stressed out. now i'm totally fine and i don't even think about it anymore to be honest. but of course it depends on where you live as well. it's really safe here, so i can get away with it. if you live somewhere where it's really unsafe of course you should always bring it! xx

You can also combine collecting recipes with writing by hand! Since my favourite recipes are both from the internet and certain cook books, I find it much easier (and relaxing) to collect them by writing them down in a notebook. I also quite like the idea of passing on a handwritten cook book to my future kids (the way my grandmother did).

Picking up a book instead of the phone is so valuable! There's a publishing company in Germany, Reclam, who produce classic books in pocket size. So valuable (and cheap, they cost 1/3 of the usual large format price) - they also have some in English and French.

Just recently found your videos and I love you! I moved to the States from London almost three years ago, met my now husband and ended up staying here. I’m now planning my move back with him and going through the same decluttering process. Crazy how America’s consumerism really sucked me in and I’m becoming more aware of what I buy/use my time and money on!

Thank you for addressing this and I'm glad that lately I've been following some of the things you mentioned like removing unwanted apps, contacts etc. And I couldn't agree more with the others you mentioned.

It’s quite interesting to me, Immy, that the items you are are holding onto in the thumbnail are some of the very same items that I love and have too many of. I know I can count on you to tutor me along towards a more simple lifestyle. Undoubtedly, your suggestions in this video are going to be a great starting point. So many great tips, I will be rewatching this one. I usually try to ask my self if I really need to go back for my phone if I accidently leave it at home and am always surprised how often the answer in no, and how off-putting and freeing it is at the same time. I have a timer for my phone to be B&W at night and it's a shock how aggressive and unnatural the colours seem if I pause the setting to check something😎. I'm curious to try keeping it on B&W all day and breaking the habit of always having something playing in the background. Thanks!

In the vein of organizing apps, I borrowed an idea from a friend: grouping similar apps together in a named "folder" (on my Android phone, it looks more like a bubble or circle. Not sure how to accurately describe it 😅). This is one more step I have to take to actually use most of my apps. Examples of my bubbles include:
"connected" (fb, ig, patreon, LinkedIn, phone, messenger, etc)
"entertained" (RUclips, music apps, pinterest, Netflix, tubi, tt, and library apps for virtual borrowing)
"monies" (credit union, credit card, venmo, PayPal, car insurance, etc)
    "health" (gym, doctor, health insurance)
"games" (self explanatory😁, and in theory should be in the "entertained" bubble...)
    "spend" (OfferUp, ThredUp, etc)
"stomach" (for lack of a better name... grocery, coffee, restaurant)
All those are on a secondary page.
My main page has apps for work (time clock, calculator, formulary, pill counting app), my Google calendar that keeps my outside from work life semi-sane, email, text app, Ecosia, and maps.

So, for the next person in need for an iphone (at least 7):
      > Settings > Accessibility > Display and Text size > Colors filter > Greyscale
Then for an « easy » switch by triple-clicking the Home button (that can be questioned, considering the topic, but I will try this as an in-between):
      > Settings > Accessibility > Shortcuts > Colors filter
