I suffered recently an elbow injury and I started playing with my left hand, so I had to do a lot of the stuff you are showing in your video. Now that I'm cured, I've realised how much I've improved my rigt hand strokes: my forehand surely but specially my one-handed backhand. I'm so happy with it that i keep playing with my left hand, at least one match a week. Thank you for the video, I'm glad someone has experienced the same as me. I'll follow your advice and I'll keep practising those amazing shadow movements with both hands. Thanks very much indeed for your great videos about visualization too!
Got a tfcc injury in my right wrist after a fractured bone... It was my first day as left handed today after an year gap from tennis.. felt quite demotivated after the session.. I thought i would have to quit tennis.. But your videos and some of the comments make me feel its possible.. Thank you
Very simple stuff, but very effective. Having spent the last 2 years learning to play lefty, I can say for sure, that timing the hip drive to initiate the swing was the hardest part. And most important.
as a big Rafa fan I switched to my left hand - its extremely hard not to be discouraged sometimes - because you were using right hand strokes and coordination all your life and if you switch to left hand you lose almost all of your coordination. its very interesting. but i noticed something, after playing leftie for hundred hours my right handed two handed backhand improved so much.. still --- its so fun to play with the left hand that i just cannot switch back to my right one. I feel slices more, two handed backhand is a natural stroke because you got so much power in the right hand...the hardest thing to learn is the left handed forehand. I hope a few hundred hours more will get me somewhere!
Oddly enough i’ve never been able to hit a 2 handed backhand in my life. But after playing left handed for 6 months i can suddenly do it 😀 But in terms of the forehand, it’s definitely a challenge. Along with my off court coordination work, these footwork drills helped me the most. Give them a try and let me know how you get on.
thank you for the video! would you mind sharing your thoughts on the ambidextrous tennis where a righty learned the lefty forehand and uses 3 strokes, the both forehand and the righty 2hbh? i am trying to play like this and at 4.0 level it looks it is definitely feasible. Most people say it is not possible to switch the grips but probably it starts at 5.0 or above. It is just so much fun to play this way!
I’m in the camp where i’m not sure there is sufficient time to change the grip. To me it would seem that one of the forehands would need to be hit with the hand further up the grip, which then changes the leverage. As my left hand continues to improve i’ll play around and see if I can make the grip change in time. As it stands my right handed backhand is better than my lefty forehand, so i can’t teat it propperly
I plan to make some videos playing sets etc. Right now the left handed forehand is on hold because after a cruel twist of fait I fell and injured my left collar bone. Hopfully not too long though.
Really interesting thanks! I’m trying to learn left handed due to injury. What would you recommend strengthening? Have a band but unsure what to do other than my shoulder.
@MaxBeech I would start with these two videos for increasing strength. ruclips.net/video/9d1iyZkGE2E/видео.htmlsi=3xamzlGVCcBe10m5 ruclips.net/video/gOWiU4tsyj4/видео.htmlsi=CXlg0x3-7HRCIA7_
Do you have series in this? Im low 5.0 player/9Utr and teaching pro Full time and have been dealing with a wrist injury for months. To compete and to mainly teach at full capacity im starting to do ups, downs each morning. Shadow strokes with footwork and.only slice Bh at the momement and somw short court hitting. Also practicing feeding to targets. Any other suggestions?
Thanks for the video.. one question.. Should we start practicing all the footwork together or should stick to basic closed stance for few days and then move on? What should i do?
I wonder if any rec players have practiced a lefty forehand (for injury reasons or whatever) and then decided to keep the lefty forehand and play with forehands on both sides. 🤔
There's no right or wrong way to prepare or swing. Its about what finding what works for you. But the focus here is on the footwork and the key for most players is driving through the back or outside hip
How often do you work on your footwork?
never! needs to happen...

That sounds very similar to me. It's surprisingly fun playing left handed, so I'm also continuing to journey :-)

Man!! That tennis wall behind you excites me 😍
Ha, it's very pretty 🤩
I am going to give it a try, thanks!
Have fun!
Excellent video on footwork. Will be watching it many more times. Trying to start replacing my backhands with a lefty forehand. Thanks

i love love this, am starting to do this, will come back in a month to let you know how much it helps.
Thanks and you are welcome. I look forward to gearing how you get on 😁
This is great. I practiced the similar way with my left hand for fun !
Nice to hear.
Thank you so much! I know I need to do shadow swings and this makes it doable.
Happy to help. I tend to do them to music to help me get lighter on my toes :-)
Great video man, def will implement 🤟🏽
How about a switch to the backhand video also. I have a torn TFCC on my right wrist, and I’m going to try using you technique. Thanks!!!

This looks like a great drill ill try these out today before i hit. Really want to see that left handed forehand tho

I have a free footwork program that goes through it in more detail.

what about when you have to back up to give yourself more space? or being in a closed stance when having to move forward?
I work on footwork patterns for all different variation of shot. I couldn't do all of them in 1 video because it would be too long.
okay, what about the pattern examples I listed? is there a different video covering them? or would you make one? @@TennisHacker
How does one hold a racket for hitting two forehands
Thanks for the video.. one question..
Should we start practicing all the footwork together or should stick to basic closed stance for few days and then move on? What should i do?
Спасибо!
That all great, but let’s see some results hitting from both sides.
oaw! thank you soo much!

Elbow high -- I don't find that helpful to the swing

80% of a good shot is on the legs...
