This might be the only "I bought a new (cinema) camera" video on RUclips that provides anything more meaningful than more fodder for gear-lust. I discovered you because of Danny's BTS videos, and watched your back catalog. Incredible work - as a RUclipsr & a DP. Can't wait to see more in 2023!
Most people who make the I bought a new camera a.) rent the camera or b.) get the camera from a sponsor to try and sell the camera. This video doesn’t do either. He sounds so honest.
Bro... I've been a fan of yours since being introduced in the Gevirtz doc. This legitimately makes me proud and gives me motivation to work even harder. I've been a Full Time video producer for a major tech conglomerate for a whole decade (since I was 20) and finally this spring I will be shooting my first short film and a lot of that has to do with watching your vids. I was laid off last Tuesday and truthfully, money aside the main thing I was frustrated with was "fuck, how am I going to pull this film off while trying to support my family." But truthfully, you just gotta get it done and know that everything's going to be okay. Appreciate the constant motivation.
Let's go Carlo! what a massiv step in your carrier, I'm so excited to see you start producing stuff with this amazing camera. You are such an inspiring DOP 🙏🏼
I took the same risk with the Sony FX30 and financed it. I just got it in October, filming my cousin's music videos, my good friend's podcast, and more small things as I have many short films I'm making with it. This video motivated me even more as I emailed 50+ places to make videos for, just waiting but knowing once the time comes that it'll pay itself off! I'm hella proud of ya Gian you deserve it and I can't wait to see more content with such a beaut of a camera!!
That bit about the URSA was too funny 😂. Excuse me, an URSA? It has nothing to do with the camera quality. You are the first person In see that owns the Venice. I didn’t even know it could be owned! Wow. Truly another level
"I need to know everything about this camera before I buy it".That is something I'm learning. I just had a talk with myself about the fear of investing on new gear and software. And that I'm learning to acknowledge that it is important to reinvest in yourself, and to truly study what the gear or investment can do for you. I love the message in this video.
I'm so happy for you beyond words, you've been nothing but an inspiration to me and every cam operator/filmakers out there. I thank you for this and will continue giving you all the support and love. Crazy success is ahead of you brother!
Dude hearing this is literally my life. I played drums with Falling in reverse, All that remains, and a ton of massive bands. It was so hard to switch gears into cinematography. Even to this day I don’t play anywhere near I used to. It’s hard to switch professions. Here’s to the future homie 🥂
I've just had a serious conversation with my father about my future yesterday. And today you posted this, it's hard to call it coincedence. I'm really grateful that you shared your insights about your way of life, it means a lot to me, really. Keep up the great work, your're changing lives man! Btw fucking awesome camera
Congraaats my man! You're the reason I bought the Ursa Mini G2, i'm at a bit of a stagnated plateau when it comes to my career right now but I just need you to know how much you've inspired me so far! All the love from The Netherlands
I just arrived at a similar decision the same way. And I also purchase a cable the same way. But a college degree is not the safety net it used to be so even more reason to commit to what you most believe in. Here’s a quote from acting… it is better to make the “wrong” decision and commit 100% than it is to make the “right” decision that you can only commit 50% to. You made the only good decision. And it was a super smart decision. It will pay off quickly. Great share, congrats!
I dropped out for the same reason! Get rid of the safety net and go all in. Thanks for sharing your story. You'll pay off that kit with a couple big jobs easily.
I too walked in your shoes… I brought my SONY FX9, 2 years ago for my 60th Birthday present … I started as a still photographer in High School in the Late 70’s … I also learned how to shoot VIDEO then too while in HIGH SCHOOL… I have taken my time to learn the the many intricacies of VIDEO PRODUCTION with my FX9 since this is my very 1st Pro Cinema Camera … I also learned COMPUTER NETWORK ENGINEERING and CYBERSECURITY on my own as a contractor… I have been always searching to do my own thing since HIGH SCHOOL … Yes I have an ARTISTIC, MUSIC side too as a former Radio Promotions DJ for the popular NYC radio station 107.5 WBLS-FM … Yes I have achieved many GOALS living life the way we do… Now I’m known too for my BBQ PITMASTERS skills on TV (series 6:episode:6 (2014) - WILDCARDS) and at the MEMPHIS IN MAY -WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BBQ COOKING COMPETITION (Memphis, Tn.) Cooking for $125,000 in prize money … (2017) 1st Tomato Sauce, (2016) 2nd BBQ SEAFOOD, (2015) 6th 20lb Whole Pork Shoulder & GIANT NATIONAL BBQ BATTLE (Washington D.C.) - (2019) 5th LAMB… So yes I’ve paid my dues and have returned my blessings forward to over 100 College Interns … However this AUDIO / VIDEO dream is still on my BUCKET LIST too and I can only wish you best of luck to you… I’m just starting to shoot small projects and will be building my VIDEO channel too … So I wish you continued success and just maybe I might meet up with you on a shoot with my own SONY VENICE 2… Peace from DJ HOWIE D NYC, Down 2 Smoke BBQ VIDEO & DTS BBQ TEAM … 3/17/2023
Very cool. I’m 62. I couldn’t afford film school, or any university education but knew I wanted to work in visual communication, so I took risks and bought equipment of a similar value (in the late 80s) and started my own company, eventually became an engineer, built television stations, made films/videos, etc., and succeeded because I moved any fear to the back of the bus, remained confident in myself and have lived an amazing life. You sir are on the right track because it is YOUR trak. I have no doubt that you will succeed beyond your dreams. Sorry if pulling the age card is cliché, but I’ve learned these things: 1. Confidence rules the universe. Let it rule yours. 2. Do what you love using the tools you love and then find ways to get paid for doing so. 3. Fear will never need to interfere with your determination and is just wasted energy. 4. Love yourself and make yourself happy as it is the only way to bring happiness to anyone else. 5. It’s not about how hard you fall, but how you get back up. Congratulations on this next step toward your confident happiness.
cinealta is a beauty. I know what you mean on a smaller scale. you'd think your mate would be an arri but there is also something not so personal about it since its the camera everyone rents. she's special there. and great dynamic range
Thank you for being so transparent and sharing your journey. Congratulations on your purchase. I struggle with self-doubt but watching this video I'm truly inspired 🙏🏾!
oh wow that looks like a huge step up! congrats and I luv your work and I might luv them even more with those combos :) I'm a huge sucker for Vista prime images
my graduation movie back in the day was shot on cine-alta, the one that lucas used for star wars films, the image was magnificent... it was heavy, needed a crew. but the image was amazing. i feel you on that special attraction to cine alta cameras. congrats!
I started following you after watching Danny’s feature videos. Just the little pieces I saw from you dp-ing with the Venice just goes to show how much you understand lighting and composition and just filmmaking in general. I’m excited to see what you create with this new tool of yours. Congrats bro!
Dude you loke done. you need to rest, its not like that first camera when u didnt have nothing to lose, now you have a lot to lose, and you allowed to have a plan b. I think u should be happy with the amazing things u done and focus in growing in other things in your life. Good luck!
Thank you for these videos , watching from Zambia , I totally relate to what you went through experiencing it right now filming is my plan A and everything that follows it definitely has to work out regardless. 🙏🏾
Hey man, best of luck with your new camera. I'm sure it will serve you well and be a great investment gearwise and also your own development as a professional filmmaker.
Congrats bro!! I can’t wait to see what other huge projects you create🔥 Hopefully one day you create one in houston! I would love to be able to meet you 👏🏽
I am so glad I have followed you. I recently followed you last year. And you remind me a lot of Danny Gervirtz. You guys are the kind of people I would follow and watch on RUclips because you guys make it so RAW and real. In this video, you couldn't had said it better. Thank Gian Carlo. Keep it up, I can't wait to see what you create.
I totally relate to that fear of big purchases. I recently spent £3.4k on 2 new lights, 4 new good quality light stands with boom arms and a new tripod head. Most of those aren't the "exciting" purchases and it was a big purchase but I know that these stands and that new head will last me a good number of years and it's necessary for both safety and my quality of life on set. I've got my eyes set on owning an Alexa Mini at some point so definitely setting that goal. Keep doing what you do, I love your channel and the insights you bring.
I can relate to the moment you talked about imposter syndrome so much. I recently shot one of my biggest project, a shortfilm on which I'd an amazing crew, cast and gear available to me. And at one point I stood on set and was like: "Do I really deserve to be here? Do I deserve to have so many amazing crew members arround me that support my vision? Isn't my work way too medeocar?" but then I realized that I'm doing it and that I'm here and it's okay to be where I am. I think this fear of not being worthy is never going to go away but I can always try to improve and become a better person, a better version of myself, a better dp. Day after day. - take risks, because it's the only way you develop.
Haha, I saw you on set with Matti Haapoja, where you and Danny were shooting that show 5 plus months ago. You guys were using the Venice. I’m glad you own the camera you were using back them.
When I bought my first Leica I had the same kind of feeling. I know it's a different tool, but really the emotions of owning something which is able to upgrade your work, the joy and the passion to create something I think it's universal. Keep doing what you do with the same passion of day 1!
easily one of my favorite channels out there, you give so much value to me. I left my 9-5 job a few months ago, and finally, I'm getting a little more work now. Not enough though, and sometimes it gets really difficult for me to sleep at night. but I know i can make it. deep inside i know i will succeed. Thank you Carlo what you are giving to us! and congratulations with your new investment! keep it up, mate!
This man is out here living my dream!! Congrats on your purchase bro! Absolutely love your work!

@@carlostigs Would so much love to watch a extended tutorial on grading, how you might grade a small project your self 🙏🏼

Great speech. I agree all the way. Congrats on your purchase. You’ll kill it, I can tell.

Massive congratulations 🎉
Congrats man! I felt the same way when I bought my Red Monstro recently
When I bought my first Leica I had the same kind of feeling. I know it's a different tool, but really the emotions of owning something which is able to upgrade your work, the joy and the passion to create something I think it's universal. Keep doing what you do with the same passion of day 1!
love the message of this, thank you
Congrats bro. You deserve all of it.
