@@2godless , Bernie is included in archival footage, but nothing new filmed specifically for the documentary. That being said, I found Elton's comments about their friendship touching, even though it was nothing I hadn't heard before.
On a recent car trip my kid played a song from Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. I asked her if she had heard the entire release. No?

@@terri6854 I saw it last night and of course those things were mentioned but they did not really take precedence over the music. I think EJ's fans will be satisfied. My only complaint was that it was most about the years where he was most successful, 1970-1975. I wish it was longer and covered the '80s, which they completely skipped over. Elton narrated the documentary and talked about him and Bernie, how they met, the key band members - Nigel, Dee, Davey, Ray Cooper (although we see Roger Pope and Caleb Quaye in archive footage), the albums, the audiences...it was compared to Beatlemania... his rise to fame up to the year 1975...it was juxtaposed with the cities he visited during his final North American tour in 2022, culminating in the Dodger Stadium finale. And as he sang those final tunes, you could see that he was crying...I loved it. Elton was at the premiere with us and that was a plus. 👍🏾
@@MzJanuary , as I noted previously, I was there and agree with you, although I was more than happy with the focus on the 70's, as those were the years I first became an Elton fan.
If people want a more in depth look at Elton, his song writing, etc., as noted in the comment above, they will probably not be satisfied by the documentary. I can understand that. This may be too much of a rehashing of information they already know. But, for anyone reading this, as a fan for over 50 years, who has read, heard and seen most of what is presented in the film, I found it entertaining and at times, moving.

I love me some Elton since 1971, but I fear this movie will be the same story I already know. Having said that I'll go see it just to see the never before seen footage. We need a proper Elton John documentary highlighting Elton, Bernie and the Elton John Band! And it should be at least two and a half hours long.

@@MarcyStuart I'd love to see a documentary that covers all of the bands Elton has played with over the past six decades. Dee, Davey, Nigel and Ray are incredible, but he's also played with so many other great talents. His 1985-86 band, for instance, was an absolutely killer 13-piece monstrosity, and the sheer amount of talent showed by his 1975-76 band on the Blue Moves album is awe-inspiring. I'd love to see all of these fine musicians given their due as well.

@@MarcyStuart Davey Johnstone had been working on one for years titled The Pillars of Hercules, but I believe Elton and David stopped it knowing that they were coming out with their own documentary

Emptiness & darkness is mental & physical exhaustion - impersonal connection between a musician & the millions/billions of people today that interpret the music for their own appreciation. Must be such a bizarre feeling to have talent that billions of other people do not. Camera view of the audience is other-worldly.

Please be a proper documentary about his music writing and recording (especially covering the 70% of his songs that most people have never heard of, rather than just the hits), and not just another rehashing of his drug and drink and being a gay celebrity problems.
Edit: Now, after watching the trailer, I fear it's going to be the latter... once again.
Can't wait! I've loved him since I was a kid in the 70s. He's one of a kind and has always been my favorite male singer. His and Bernie's songs will live on forever and I hope he's enjoying retirement with his family.

@@FMAHAYC898 , actually, despite what the previous comment says, Bernie's voice is not heard in the trailer at all. However, he is included in the documentary via archival information, and Elton speaks movingly of their friendship.
This is not the type of movie where people are interviewed on camera and this includes Elton. Rather, it is done via previously recorded audio and video for the most part (Just saw it last night at the NY Film Festival which (after the film ended), included comments and a performance by Elton.
Looks great. Definitely will watch

I was a huge Elton John fan in the early 70s. I sat in my room with a record player and listened to his albums over and over and over, learned every word and note, at least in my head. After around 1976, however, I didn't buy any more of them. A bit like Paul McCartney and several other amazing musician singer songwriters of our time, he had his sweet spot, several of them actually, and then that was it. Most of what followed was best described as dentist office or elevator music. Pity really, but it happens to a lot of them. It's almost like superhero movies - the origin story is always the best part and then it gets muddled and loses its way.

I watch this and love it of course but team Elton must have so many shows in the vaults from the classic years. I hope they eventually release everything!

I have followed you from the very beginning. I was there that fabulous Thanksgiving night at the Garden with John Lennon. Then again at the Garden for "Empty Garden", and so many shows in between. You've been the soundtrack of my life. I'm 63 years on now, and you still are.

I'm still standig..from Monterrey, MEXCIO..love Elton since I was a teen...loved he played the piano!! (of course I sarted to take piano classes myself..got to an intermediate level..not close Elton) but it's so great to see a really great artist became so open..so humble with everything in hislife not to get more fans..he is not an instagram..tiktoker..short on youtube to get more attention..more money..NO..he just wants to get the message to their fans..and perhaps their kids..that he is real..he is not perfect..he is uber talented almost a musical genius (in my opinion, not Elton) but he wants to spread the message that even if you struggle for a lot of time...have bad experiences...people that were traitors..YOU can overcome all that..depresion..suciedal attemps..alcohol abuse..drugs..depression, anxiety .etc.. I will definitely be watching! I’ve loved his music for decades. I was fortunate enough to be at that concert at Dodger stadium with my brother in 1975! That was my first concert ever as a teen and It was amazing. Saw him again solo piano tour in 2001 and that was awesome as well. I love Elton ❤
