wow, really, thank you. yeh I only heard this song because I was looking at the listign of billboards greatest girlband songs and I love music from this era, the passion in her voice instantly shook me.
Back then they didn't have things in the studio to enhance your vocals and you had to do one whole take flawlessly. They didn't piece songs together back then. You had to have true talent.
This statement uses a broad brush, which is never fair or true. Whatever happened to that old fashion kindness? There a great sinder today. And, although he's been gone for several years, now, George Michael was phenomenal. Maria Cary is amazing as are several other of today's singers.
@@ronlheureux7623 hey it is what it is. However, George Michael was amazing and someone who was TRULY TALENTED. A lot of today's so-called singers cant sing straight through on one take and get all nights right. It was mandatory back in the day.
I know we have the Supremes, Ronettes, Shirelles, et. al. who have made great records but I think this might be the best recording by a female group ever.
THERE'S NO "MAYBE", ABOUT THIS TRULY CLASSIC JAM; ITS BEAUTY, IS ITS SIMPLICITY. "MAYBE", IS SO SWEET, SO ENDEARING;; BECAUSE IT'S SO INNOCENT. I LOVE THIS SONG.
I was in high school in 1958 and this great slow song by Arlene Smith and the Chantels was haunting and fabulous then and remains so to this day. Fred Parris and the 5 Satins' "In the Still of the Night" was a close second
almost impossible to restore. this is magnetic tape recording. there is no more information to display. maybe deep learning and neural network tech can improve it a bit
@@ianarchibald1423 This looks to be a 5th gen dub of the original kinescope on VHS, but we all know we won’t ever see the original quality because DCP has and always will be selfish and focus on their current programs. There has been a recent turn up of a full episode that’s probably 1-2 generations older based off of the quality difference.
These young ladies made "God's Music" popular. They "prayed and prayed". The were angels of harmony, lyrics, mastery, and style. Total class and a blessing for all. My thanks to the producer.
She was actually 14 when she started.Amazing voice an she wrote her songs. At Age 12 she sang at carnegi Hall. We had angels in our Presence. How blessed we Were
I'm 73yrs old i was 10 when this song came out I played 50s and 60s music to my 3 granddaughter on vacation trips I taught they hated it I was wrong they are fighting for my record albums know this is their favorite song
The Chantels, now this my friends is talent & I might also add, class. These girls never received the respect & fame they so deserved. Never again will we hear the likes of this great music. So sad, what a beautiful time..
I was still in grade school when this came out. It still thrills me. Where in the hell did it all go wrong. I was at the crossroads and made a pledge that if I could I would make a place for all of us oldsters that still love this music. We could sit around and bellyache about stuff, drink, eat, sleep, and just groove to all the old songs in comfort and peace from all of the crap today.
Man, music was so magical, structured and dignified back then! Look how nicely they are dressed and listen to how well their voices all blended together. This was my Mom's music RIP! One of the best songs ever and definitely of the 1950's!
This is the greatest female singing group in the whole world no one can touch the Chantels Arlene and the girls best in the world they still doing it I love you
Arleen sang this to me in a dressing room in a long island night club many years ago so I would get a feel how it went I was backing her up on keyboard I'll never forget that
For some reason it's taken me many decades to really appreciate this song. I was only 4 years old when it was new, but it certainly has stuck around in the intervening years, and with good reason.
It's beautiful - I was 5 or 6 and later on in '64 and 65, when I was about 14, I'd clutch my little red transistor radio to my ear at 4am when the DJ's would play the oldies such as this sweet one. I loved them all.
My mom use to play this song on piano and sing this back home in Pittsburgh people use to come to my Grandmothers house and listen to my mom sing this song and other oldies. My Mom is 75 years old now and she can still play that piano..she can't hit that high note no more but she plays this song in a lower key. Thank you for posting !!

Wow!!! How long has it been since I heard that beautiful voice. I'm a guy, but, she made me fall in love with someone I've never met. Not even in a dream. That song gave me goose bumps. I was a freshman in high school in Barrington, Ill that year.

Lord, this is wonderful, blurred, dreamy camera focus and all. It adds to the romance of the era really, to see them out of focus. Love them...and the tune, very much.
What I want to say here.. is that when this topped the charts, and hit band stand the south was segregated, there was overt and violent racial hatred everywhere in America. But today, white, latino and Asian kids who grew up then, are posting today EXPRESSIN THIER LOVE AND GRATITUTDE TO THESE LOVELY TALENTED BLACK GIRLS.. I wish I had a time machine where I could go back in time, or wish I was born 20 years earlier. These live performances are soooooooooooo cool. I agree with you totally Dave. We had less material things than exists today but we had more enjoyment out of life. I do Agree with you on this John and My Name is Joseph Kane so keep enjoying these songs
What happened to her?
Why were so many songs in the 50s so good? What a voice she had.
Because they were performed by artists that had the attitude of "we are a class act, and here to entertain you".
There was no super-duper processing on the audio either - the recording is truly how the singers sounded.
She certainly has some pipes, that's for sure!
