Only a few minutes in and I know it's going to be a banger. However, wanted to comment this for a while - I'd love it if you guys would get the audio to be a bit more clear in your podcasts.
It's not poor, just.. uneven and really need to smash that volume button to hear well.
Agreed - for me often the guests seem to be really quiet while fozzy can mostly be heard loud and clear.

I loved the part talking about what builds and drives culture and the anecdote Rio shares in that Pep named Scott Carson as one of the biggest pieces of City's culture. There's several videos on CityTV over the past 3+ seasons that shared moments showing the respect and love the lads at City have for him and it goes to show how much he really means to that locker room and you can see that influence in the training approach at City.

Agreed. Same theory applies to any profession, really. Just cause the person is the GOAT, doesn't mean they'll be a great teacher, pundit, commentator, etc.
For me Rio is the greatest Central defender England has ever produced and probably even now would keep most of the United defenders out of the team! His vision, his passing his reading of the game was amazing

Van Dijk is only considered the best CB as there is a lack of world class centre backs in today's game. If he played 10-15 years ago he wouldn't be in the conversation. 🤷♂️

A simple step towards him closes the space he shoots into but instead he freezes and ball watches. And while we're at it, Trent can't defend either. He's only good at going forward. Liverpools attack have glossed over how bad they are defensively. Now the goals have dried up and everyone can see their defense for what it is.

Van Dijk was the most important signing Liverpool done, he has been an absolute brick wall at the back for a number of years and his defending is so effortless and classy (Similar to Rio all those years ago) He got voted 3rd place for the Ballon d'Or (Which he should of won) how many world class defenders over the years have come that close to winning the Ballon d'Or? Barely any! But he did!
You're just hating on a modern day player and you're acting like players like Rio never had a bad game in their life because they're retired now, they've become immortal to you. You're picking out all of VVD flaws because he's currently playing every week on your TV.. But wait until he's been retired for like 10 years.. There is a difference in mentality between players of Rios era and players now. They care but I think these guys all see themselves now as a brand apart from the team. It is just magnified when teams lose.

Rio isn't the definition of a Rolls Royce at all. Very unbelievable player but ended up at QPR very late on and was very poor whereas you look at a proper Rolls Royce like Thiago Silva, aging on but is still able to play at the top level and win trophies at 38
