Made a smelter for lead. 8" piece of pipe. 1/2" base plate with 5/8" holes drilled in it for 3 2kw heating elements. Use a PID controller and a pair of SSRs on heat sinks. Then I put the whole thing in a trash can and filled in around it with perlite and a touch of portland cement mixed in. Hardens up to a bit and insulates the sides and bottom. Can touch the outside during operation. Works great. Holds about 100lb of lead. Why the long slide from the pot to the drippers? Looks like a place for lots of heat to escape. You have a temp probe in the lead dripper reservoir, is the slide heated? Something to look into, mold release for lead casting. Just powdered carbon with some sticky stuff.
Just a question about your coolant - Is it merely used for its specific heat capacity (cooling tempo), or is there another reason you considered it? Could oil be used if it were heated? Your system works very well
Its all about heat recoil which means the coolant needs to cool the lead at a slower rate than say water in other words your coolant needs a higher boiling point than 100 Celsius people have used brake fluid, diesel, molasses, fabric conditioner, cutting oil the list goes on. A word of caution though oil can be prone to combustion and can be a real pain to clean of the shot, whereas soaps are easily washed off with hot water. Hope this helps all the best
Great video sir I would like to do my own shot I just need to make sure it’s worth making because buying shot is so expensive also I gives me something to do
Tap stem is stainless steel with a 60 degree point / hole in bottom of pot 60 degree ( same as centre drill).Through hole in bottom of pot 3mm. Tap it self is of an old brass stop tap
Love your video Woodsman! Question, for the ramp maintenance; what are you smearing on the ramp? You mentioned grease, is that anything special? applied with a brush?
There will be ladles for retro fitting to standard 180mm cooker elements or gas rings for sale in the next couple of weeks as ive ust sold the last one and two sets of drippers we usually cast them to order. will notify you when there up again Thanks Woodsman.243
Just letting you know I have lead shot ladles for sale and sets of drippers if you would like to look on ebay check out Lead Shot Maker 273230376703) cheers Woodsman.243
Nice set up.
That is a great video, and very informative. Thank you !!

Superb video.
Cheers David much appreciated
Awesome job. Just as an observation, I would be really careful pouring the liquid so close to the hot plate full of lead.
Keep up the good work.
I see your using grease on plate. I usually use white board chalk. Going to give grease also a try.
Yes it is Copper ease, French chalk or soap tone works well to
Great video sir I would like to do my own shot I just need to make sure it’s worth making because buying shot is so expensive also I gives me something to do
Can you control the size of shot you make? Can you make different sizes by controlling the size of the drip...?
With the Drippers we make shot sizes from#9 to #5 can be made
Whats the tap/valve on the melting pot made from? Looking at making a large melting pot with bottom pour like that.
Tap stem is stainless steel with a 60 degree point / hole in bottom of pot 60 degree ( same as centre drill).Through hole in bottom of pot 3mm. Tap it self is of an old brass stop tap
muy bueno el video de cuanto es el agujero conde sale el plomo
On the video I was making number 6 shot the hole size in the drippers was 0.8mm

I purchased a lead shot maker here in the states; I posted a video; I'd enjoy your opinion.

Your sound quality is horrible. Looks like an interesting video but just can't hear anything.
