President Nixon was a Hero
I totally agree!!!
The finest president we have ever had. His courage and strength inspired millions. I will always remember him with the fondness if memories and miss him greatly.
Brilliant leader with vision. His successes should not be obliqued by a foolish second rate burglary. Historians and those who studied the era know better.
@@JL03241 do they really know better? 🙄
President Richard Milhouse Nixon a hero !!! The media wanted him out for no reason we know about Watergate it was a mistake he made and the people around him! We all make mistakes but he overcame that and President Nixon has become one of most beloved leaders and this country's greatest Presidents He was a great man !!! I could listen to the President all day and never get tired of President Richard Nixon and his speeches He cared about the United States and it's people one of the greatest leader's of the free world!!!! We miss you Mr. PRESIDENT! !!!
His story is really amazing. The extreme highs and lows in his career were very uncommon. So brilliant and humble is some ways. So lacking in morals and unable to relate in others. All of his accomplishments as president of course are overshadowed by Watergate. And his comeback as an elder statesman was a testament to him. His life is worth the study.
That is true!
I wish he was still here. 👍✌️✌️
He would be 107 years old today
Amen!
Here is a man that had access to the VIP box seats at sporting events but he wanted to always be in the stands...with the people. Humble man
The clip of him at the Giants game (24:05) was pretty cool. Can you imagine sitting adjacent to him? I'd have invited him to a postgame tailgate party.
Oh, he was always in the stands? How humble. If only his foreign policy were as humble instead of expanding the Vietnam war and committing war crimes by attacking Cambodia, a neutral, sovereign nation. Maybe you shouldn't judge presidents by inconsequential attempts to make themselves appear as "one of the people," but rather by their policies. Otherwise, you will keep electing clowns like Trump.
Nixon's policies were top-notch. He got us OUT of Vietnam. He thawed relations with the USSR and China. Schools were integrated. He proposed a universal health care plan. Dogged by Watergate, he will never get the credit he deserves. He was a brilliant man.
Reed Rothchild, top-notch? Like how he illegally bombed Cambodia and committed war crimes that led to the rise of Khmer Rouge and the subsequent genocide? He should have been executed for that alone. But I guess U.S. is immune when it comes to genocide. www.jacobinmag.com/2015/04/khmer-rouge-cambodian-genocide-united-states/
That's right. One of the great men of the 20th Century. The good FAR outweighed the bad with Nixon. Definitely a top president of the 20th Century. Reagan was a good one, too, but more hawkish.
From the standpoint of a history student, he was a splendid man!
@@jacobmuraco4276 exactly

Splendid is a real stretch… He was actually quite disgusting… Expanding the Vietnam war into Cambodia, which led to millions of deaths… He was quite shabby - paranoid and self-destructive. He assured him a cynicism that we still are living with today towards government.
@@MFK1967 He desegregated Southern schools, ended the War in Vietnam with honour while aiding South-Vietnam's independence and that 1972 election was something special. As for Cambodia, he did not expand the war the communists did that. Same with China coming into Korea.

Richard Nixon was one great president, one of the best in America's history. He was a truly great man.
Watergate was as significant as it was only because Nixon was a genuinely good man. If he was as crooked as many others, he would have completed his term.
He was great for America, and absolutely for the world.
He was a great president in my opinion and he never should have resigned. I miss him and wish he were here today. RIP RN
I have been to Richard Nixon Library two times. I must say that he was a great president who put the interest of America on first. Of course, the Watergate could not be forgotten. But in my aspect, Nixon should be remembered for every achievement what he did to this country in order to build a better nation. RIP Richard Nixon.
Now, I want to visit the Nixon Library!
One of the last of the presidents who a normal person could truly relate to.
Can a “normal “person relate to a man who is this cutthroat and ambitious? Maybe so… But there was nothing normal aboit Richard Nixon.
@@MFK1967 He was every bit normal as another. He was a political man.
Happy he recognised Pats hard work.
Sadly, he also beat her
Watergate was stealing a pack of gum compared to what other Presidents/politicians have done and gotten away with. Hell, the fact that he owned up to his mistakes shows his true character and morals. Very wise man.
Ben Watson fully agree, takes big balls to own up to a mistake
Was it wise to sabotage the Vietnamese Peace Talks just to gain an edge in the 1968 election hereby risking countless Vietnamese and American lives.
I agree with this. He admitted to having screwed this one up. I just wish he had admitted the error earlier instead of trying to cover it up. If he had immediately admitted that the break-in was real and then had fired those who did it, his presidency likely would have survived it. Nixon had had many foreign policy successes, including opening relations with China and detente with the Soviet Union. IMO the country would have been better off if he had handled Watergate better and then had stayed in power.

Richard Nixon, could've gone down as one of the greatest American Presidents!
He does. When people learn about Nixon, they learn just how truly great he was. Man of the people. No President during the late 20th or 21st century had better foreign policy. Reagan comes close, but I would definitely say that Nixon's policies helped Reagan. Extremely brilliant man.
Have you heard of Watergate
@Ty Calvert
Meh. Kinda overblown. So he listened in on a meeting
Yeah, America suffered and was worse off just because some journalists wanted a hot scoop. It really was a case of where the "Press" was the enemy of America. Corrupt and money grubbing the press does not care about what is right or wrong, they just want power, money and fame.
He has gone down as such - at least in the eyes of those who tuned out the historical bias and studied the immense accomplishments of this giant. The world is a better place because of his service.
brilliant n absolutely fearless man, one of the greatest president in the 20th century. As an Aussie we loved and admired him for the great work he did for peace and his great strength to overcome n fight on. Loved his brilliant speech at Oxford.

In so many of the videos you can see his genuine excitement and gratitude towards his success.
Yes he was/is a racist POS.
@@power966 Lol, Nixon is nowhere near the worst in that regard.
Presidential libraries are always lopsided... but I do like this man, especially from a personal point of view. He does represent reinventing oneself and never giving up...
Nixon's resignation speech to his staff is one of the greatest, most honorable of all time. He was a great man who fell on the sword for the sins of others. He could have went down as one of the greatest presidents. He chose a different path, the path presidents like Clinton and trump didn't. He chose dignity and what was best for America rather than himself. Like T.R. he was truly a man in the arena, sometimes right, sometimes wrong, but he was a man.
He is one of the greatest presidents this country ever had!
Care to elaborate what Trump did to YOU??👎🏻👎🏻
A great President! We need a man like him today.
A better man and leader than people give him credit for.
Great video of a great man!
No other President had such a mastery of Foreign Affairs as President Nixon. As a Pakistani ‘ I can only express my great admiration for this supremely gifted man who saved my country in 1971. He will always be remembered fondly by all for standing for us despite the criticism that he faced. A truly great man.
It was a remarkable moment in history when Kennedy won the 1960 election, because we needed Nixon much, much more in 1968 and 1972, when he won. No president who served after him has achieved as much as he achieved while in office and after. Would that we had such a man of courage and conscience among us today!
1960 was such a close race. Both men were meant to be POTUS.
@@deb310red Kennedy won with HALF A PERCENT more of the popular vote. As lesser, more desperate man would've demanded a recount. But, Nixon knew the Electoral College's votes were what mattered - and they were overwhelming for JFK. Nixon handled the loss with grace and accepted it. Trump accomplished SO much! I mean, when he was elected the Republican party controlled the House, the Senate, and the White House. Two years later, they lost the House. Two years after that, the White House AND the Senate.

Nixon was underrated!
Although I disagreed with much of his international policies. He was the greatest of the U.S. presidents.
That's interesting. Because I always thought international relations and foreign policy was his greatest strength. His opening to China brought the US a lot of prosperity and divided the communist bloc. He was friends with the Shah and put the Arab-Israeli war to a quick rest, despite his lop-sided support of Israel. I guess there is more to it than I thought. I was born in the 80s so I never experienced it first-hand.
Good God, the only thing *good* about that man was his international policies.
He was a domestic *disaster.* I guess Nixon making African Americans Public Enemy Number #1 and doing everything in his power to demonize them through the “War on Drugs” was fine with you.
But it would do you well to know that when he *wasn’t* doing that, he was derailing the American economy with *Nixon Shocks.* It took the direct efforts of *three* Presidents to bring America back from the brink of financial chaos that Nixon left it at.
He was a God-awful President. That is not a conservative-liberal sentiment. That is just an objective sentiment.
Particularly when it comes to foreign policy he was by far the best. So it’s odd that you didn’t like em, yet thought he was the best.
@@thedemocraticchristian2348 So true! Ford and Carter are unfortunately considered to be two of the worst presidents in history because of Nixon's mess.

He could've been a great president, perhaps among the greatest of the 20th century alongside Teddy Roosevelt and Harry Truman. His opening to China, withdrawal of troops from Vietnam, detente with the Soviets,..... were great achievements. Unfortunately, they got overshadowed by this scandal that began with a simple, third-rate burglary and then grew into a monstrous, out-of-control scandal that even Nixon himself succumbed to it.
He should've burned the tapes, period!
Bar none? This video is pure propaganda. Nixon was a corrupt politician who committed war crimes in Cambodia, expanded the war in Vietnam, and started a drug war, knowing its only purpose was to imprison war protesters and minorities. The greatest president of the 20th century is FDR. FDR pulled the country out of the great depression and transformed the federal government into a structure that is capable of providing welfare to people like the declaration of independence and the constitution promised it would.
We do we have Trump
Nixon was truly one of the greatest presidents the USA has ever seen.
Tricky dick?
President Nixon has much humbleness, decency, and the potential to be a president. His outstanding performance on the international front was shadowed by the watergate. I still surprised by the modern presidents we live with.
Decency is hardly a word to describe Richard Nixon… He was a creep

I sure wish Nixon was around today to help with this Iranian mess. he was in a whole other league over Obama and Kerry etc. with foreign policy.
andrelebaron by far. Obama is horrible. Even john Kerry said he sought nixons advice on foreign affairs
iranian mess you mean the deal that worked until that fat shit got rid of it
Obama's peace deal with Iran was an excellent piece of diplomacy that made us all safer and improved our relations with Iran. Our NATA allies were all for the deal because they correctly saw that it prevented Iran from getting nuclear weapons while simultaneously improving their economy and improving our relations with them. It enabled our aerospace companies like Boeing to sell passenger jets to Iran. It was win/win/win until our loser President Trump tore it up without even reading it. Trump's doing that made it likely that Iran would make nuclear weapons, putting us and our allies in much greater danger.
It's a shame that so many Trump-worshipping, right-wing fanatics have bought into Fox News' gross distortions of this issue. Obama issued Iran a REFUND of money that we OWED them. The pseudo-journalists at Fox deliberately distorted the truth by calling that a ransom. That would be like returning a router to Best Buy for a refund and having some bozo call that a ransom. The truth is when relations with Iran turned sour in the 1970s, President Carter froze all Iranian assets in the United States. He had good reasons for doing that at the time, but the result was that Iran had paid for goods and services such as airplane parts which they never received. Then with relations remaining bad for years, Iran never got refunded that money that they paid and they never got the items which they had paid for. In other words, it was a legitimate debt that Obama rightfully paid as part of that deal, and as part of improving our relations with them. Fox News once again lied to the public by distorting that refund.
So we had a good deal with Iran, one that improved relations, improved both economies, one that our allies were happy with, one that prevented the proliferation of nukes, only to be nullified by our incompetent President Trump without even bothering to read it. Now we're less safe, our allies are upset with us, and Boeing has unjustly lost a market.
Nixon was a smart foreign policy President who would have approved of this deal with Iran. Trump doesn't even understand what the deal was, but tore it up only as an ego trip. It's appalling that many Americans support such a foolish move. They only do so because they are fools themselves. That's what happens when people listen to an entertainment network that admitted in a court of law that they're an entertainment and not a news channel. That was their basis for claiming they're under no obligation to tell the truth. And they don't tell the truth. And that turns may Americans into fools -- who are foolish enough to vote for an incompetent demagogue like Trump.
Obama didn't pay off terrorists. What he did was give a refund to the legitimate government of Iran. He paid money BACK to them that we owed them. They had paid for parts and services, which they never received. It's no different than if you returned a defective router to Best Buy. Of course they would give you your money back. Our NATO allies agreed with Obama on the deal with Iran. It was a deal that allowed inspections, allowing the US and the rest of NATO to verify that Iran wasn't building nuclear weapons, and it allowed US airplane manufacturers like Boeing to sell commercial aircraft to Iran. It was win/win. Iran got money back which they were OWED. The world got a safer world in an Iran that wouldn't develop nukes. And US companies would have been able to sell planes to Iran. So, yes, it was a great deal. And please don't use the hyperbole of calling their government "terrorists." They don't murder innocent people with drone strikes like we do. You're projecting. And quit distorting the truth by calling the REFUND a "pay off." That's intellectually dishonest. You've been watching Joseph Goebbels Television, also known as "Fox News."
You have no credibility
Wonderful tribute video. I think President's greatest accomplishment is showing us all that as mortals, we can make some big mistakes, but we can move forward in our lives not to let the mistakes disempower us, but to live our lives differently and positively so that how we live our lives after a big failure makes people respect, admire, and have affection for us once again. In other words, never give up.
A True Visionary.
Truely one of the greatest leaders in all of history.

On what basis? He was a disaster - he created a cynicism towards government that were still living with today… The idea that they’re all crooks and liars and criminals…
To me, Nixon is one of the most interesting political figures of all time.
Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall see the kingdom of heaven
Он был легендой!
I've spoken of the supremacy of Richard Nixon's place as a statesman, due to the key fact that he held the highest office's of both President and Vice President for over 13 and a half years. Although a few other Presidents had combined office's to a total of 12 years and of course FDR's 12 plus; all them were in consecutive years. Richard Nixon's time spanned 22 years, almost a quarter of a century and close to double his closest Presidential colleagues. The term “The Wilderness Years” has been a historic reference point for discussing Winston Churchill's acclaimed career, and his time when he was not within the great corridors of power. Similarly from 1960 to 1968, Richard Nixon wandered in his own Wilderness. Yet perhaps this is when a gifted leader is anointed with a higher calling and if given the opportunity to once again hold high office, shall humbly endeavor to do so on an even more righteous path of leadership.
Wow.
Even tho watergate made me dislike him, his triumphs after losing makes me respect him

I own a book about Nixon, the last 20 years of his life were rough. His wife had 2 strokes within 12 years, she passed away less than a year before Dick and though he had hoped to live to be in his 90s I feel like he just gave up hope and was ready to die after pat's death.
A very complicated and misunderstood human being
Nixon won the popular vote against Kennedy . He seceded and ran again . I wonder if he won , if we would not be in Vietnam . God bless Richard and Pat Nixon .
No offense intended, but Kennedy won the popular vote, albeit by a fraction of a percentage point: 49.72 to 49.55. Nixon could've contested the outcome, but the popular vote doesn't mean anything in the United States. The Electoral College chooses the president, and they voted overwhelmingly for Kennedy over Nixon: 303 to 219. 😐
@@TheStockwell 303 is a pretty standard victory. Not to dismiss Kennedy's win, he never should have won that election, but he did just about everything right and then some, but that's like saying Trump overwhelmingly beat Clinton, or Biden overwhelmingly beat Trump. They were solid victories, but not blowouts. Also, I think he's implying that Kennedy stole the popular vote, but Nixon conceded and didn't challenge it, though I don't particularly agree with that.

Wow. 10:51 Nixon had much more humility and honor than I thought. And here we are with this jerk who knows he lost but wants to scam his naive supporters by telling him he can win in court.
How to win?
Have the "right" message.
If there was any significant, singular flaw that can be attributed to Nixon, that made him less impactful than he should have been, it was this:
He tried to go it alone.
If not for watergate Nixon would have gone down in history as one the great leader in the 20th century
Well I think he's the greatest president of the 20th century.
Nixon's insecurities are what brought him down. He grew up poor. He was smart enough to attend Harvard but because of a family illness/monetary needs, he didn't go. He worked harder to get where he was when compared to his political rivals who grew up wealthy and connected. He was going to win reelection by a landslide but he needed to make sure thus Watergate. Even with that he was a very good president.
This man still gets sh*t for watergate, but compared to what all the Presidents after him has done he looks like a saint. We would have not got in some of the bad trade deals or wars if he was in office. He was a brilliant foreign policy guy. I Thant that he was the best president we ever had when negotiating in the foreign policy. And yes I do think that he would hav ended the Cold War faster then Reagan did.
Of course this is a skewed "biography" and does not tell the whole story (Eisenhower actually loathed Nixon) but his cunning and tenacity is something to be admired.
I think it’s crazy how history and the mespainted him out to be a madman villain, but compared to modern politicians, it’s fascinating how…. Opposite he is of the crapshow we have today on both sides
