haven't played the original game, but this game looks like a ton of fun. It fits in with my groups tastes, has that great theme of Greek Mythology, and hearing these two praise it so much just seals the deal. Think I'll pick up a copy sometime in the future
Does this make Cyclades into "just another war game" ? I thought the slow burn off war was actually very tense and oddly "real", nothing like the feeling off impending doom when there's a huge army/fleet ready to attack and go into the bidding making sure you need to scheme it correctly...
I think teams will be great for Cyclades, it is a planning game and the experienced players have a huge advantage. No problem just mix first time players with the old greeks!
So they didn't address the monsters not sticking around. I was hoping this expansion would allow for that like in Kemet. The titans and artifacts are great, but the one use monsters is still a drawback for me.
After playing a bunch of games, I often see games won because someone bought their last philosopher and also Medusa to pin down an opponent who could attack their last metropolis, or bought the Minotaur to beef us his defences. If you think of them like the other cards which give you a tactical advantage for one round, they don't seem so disappointing. I think it's just the fact that they have miniatures that act as reminders but they are not intended to be a permanent addition to your army.
So, Tom, considering Cyclades didn't make your top 100 but Kemet did, will this expansion change that up this year? I realize it released around the same time you did your 2014 top 100, so I am wondering if the expansions will make a difference.
I feel indeed that this expansion change the game too much. Everything is cool and fine but it turns the game to a way a little more chaotical and into the war aspect. Zee is right, the base game is sloooow. But Hades changes the things quite well in my opinion. I would like an opinion from Hades also from you to guys :D Cause i think Hades is a must buy for the base Cyclades, it maintains the "slow motion" flavour of the game, but with Hade (the God itself i mean) it comes a bit of quickness and unpredictability in the conflicts. Besides i suggest Titans to who wanna make it more like a war game and less a management. That said, i really like the new stuffs like the 5 special metropolis and the artifacts, i would enjoy them in the game, but i think i'll pass on Titans
I forgot to mention, all of this consideration of Titans are based only from reading the rulebook and watching some reviews like this one, so i may be wrong :D
I actually would suggest to play the game also with Hades! It has more things to keep track of, but they are not that many anyway and I don't see any problem, if you ever played a medium-heavy game. I trew all in and it was just BOOOM! I would be curious to know if Tom would enjoy Cyclades + Hades + Titans more than Kemet :)
Inis will replace both Kemet and Cyclades... easy to play and pick up, Deeper strategic planning, fighting, etc. PERIOD! Hands down. Any opinions or thoughts?
+XShrike Yeah that's the biggest problem of Cyclades the end is just as you described. It's very underwhelming. ANYONE may/can win it doesn't matter how hard you plan it; somehow someway someone unexpected can and will win. It feels there's no point in trying. I hope this expansion fixes that?
The expansion really looks cool and seems like it really fleshes out the overall game experience. However, the price point for this expansion is just way too much for me. This + base game on coolstuffinc rings in close to $90. I could pick up 2 or 3 games at that price. Gonna have to pass on this one.
Good. I am glad to hear good things about this expansion. Thank you both for this timely and informative review.

The original is amazing! You must get the Hades expansion!!!!
What are the chances that we'll ever get to see Zee's game room/collection?
zee looks so much younger all shaven clean and trimmed close #manscaping
Look at him now 5 years after your post!

Am I the only one who dies inside a little every time Tom does his "spill the box's content on the table" thing?
It's not just you ;)
I like it.
It would be funny to do it with some metal 40K minis though
Land ship at 3:99 XD
Metropoli, I believe.
Metropoleis, actually (or Metropolies if you feel poetic and want to use the Doric Epic ancient spelling...)
does this expansion need the base game ? sorry im new in the hobby
Yes.

I don't play Cyclades without Titans.
So do i need to buy cyclades and cyclades Titans to play this or does cyclades titans already include everything that you need to play?
Its just a expansion. You need the base game to use this expansion.
I feel indeed that this expansion change the game too much.

Bugnone21 Shut Up & Sit Down reviewed this game & basically said the opposite. To get Titans & skip Hades.
So, there's more than 1 point of view. Also I think I agree with them.

I bought Cyclades with a $10 off coupon but I can’t find Titans in stock 🥺😢 I must stay vigilant!
Did you ever manage to find it?
Looks great, but boy is it expensive.
Base game is already quite expensive.. Hades is what $40? =/
Bachpat Is it? I haven't seen it in stock anywhere so I didn't know.

They all play differently so not really. You could own all 3.
Once I buy Inis I WILL own all three. :) Anyone here get the new Kemet expansion? Trying it out tomorrow, so excited! Im going to play as Seth.
Does this solve the Cyclades' end problem? The ending is so unsatisfying. It is just, "Oh. You got your second Metropolis? You win."

I'm SOOO disappointed, Tom! Your components drop lack all of thrill because there was no slow motion effect.^^ :(
