This will be kinda far fetched but I think the items you have in your inventory and lvl. Affect the rocks because after like lvl 4 to 10 I've found plasma rifles to metal helmets in them things but I almost always do a high luck run soo.. im not sure but thats my theory.

You found microfusion cells, but with the mad bomber perk you could have crafted mfc granades. Technically you can beat the game with loot from hollowed - out rocks
But it would not be the same loot

I like the fact that you posted this "failure". Sometimes challenge runs just, don't. Sometimes the game just say "nah, you don't get to play today" and you just have to deal with it.

@@dbsgames7802 To be fair in any game where pacifism is (relatively) easily possible, every challenge run is by default possible. It just fails the spirit of the run, it's be like doing a weapon restricted run and then just playing full pacifist and beating the game without firing a shot. Like, yeah that technically beats the run, but that defeats the purpose of doing the entire run in the first place.

That's crazy, because the rock near the Northern Passage almost always has a silenced .22 or service rifle in it for me early on. The only times it hasn't, it's had even better gear later in the game.
Actually, you must have had something modify the loot tables, because there is literally no way for a service rifle or a .22 pistol to spawn into hollowed out rocks. Might be a mod that adds random things to the level lists?
He really should have set luck at 10 for this

@@ZeSgtSchultz luck doesn't affect containers, the only thing that does that I'm aware of is the fortune finder and ammo finder perks

I do a challenge run and then get bored like 5 hours in and just play through normally
You should allow crafting for these kind of runs. You would have had at least a couple of MFCexplosices for the omertas
Wouldnt that be the same as allowing him to sell those items. They wont be the same items he got
It would have been difficult to get to level 6 to get the mad bomber perk to be able to craft the mfc grenades, and even then he only had so many it would’ve basically been a pacifist run.

Could be Khans or Legion. Guessing they’d be used for minor supply caches in case you needed stuff and one was nearby.

honestly, is not often you see challenge runs like this where the answer is "no you can't". So I really appreciate you made a video anyway.
I feel like the rocks in 3 gave you a much better assortment of items. I remember finding a decent assortment of random crap in the rock outside Megaton. Although it could have just been quantity over quality. I also have to wonder if the luck stat plays a role in the contents of these rocks cause it feels like that could be the case

the one in 3 as others have stated is fixed, theres a note with the sniper rifle if i remember correctly

Might have, I always have like at least 8 luck and I USUALLY find weapons of some kind, and I swear I've never had an empty one. 🤔

Nerbit - just want to say thank you for actually DOING the challenege runs in your video.
I just watch spiffing brits new video on oblivion using only the rusty hoe, and it was SO HALF-ASSED. Dude spends 65% of the run time getting the hoe, then he kills about half a dozen enemies, gets bored and then uses the paintbrush cheat to teleport to the final cutscene..... the video ended and i realized he basically wasted my time because he did nothing in 20 minutes.
I only found one, but figured there was like 5 or 6 hollowed out rocks but ... Wow. Well done Nerbit... Well done

Effort. Effort is going to every single hollowed out rock in the entire game for the sake of the run, beating the game ANYWAY, and still making a video on it even though at the end of the day it wasn't that much of a shift. That takes effort, and for that I thank you. Happy 5 year.

Another attempt at a suggestion. Fallout New Vegas as Victor
-Name yourself Victor
-Have decent Charisma
-Don't do the Ghost Town Gunfight/Run Goodsprings Run quest because Victor is remote controlled not to
-Can only wear a cowboy hat and Dusters
-Can only use weapons that are affected by the Cowboy Perk
-Have to get all available cybernetic upgrades, including having robo spine, heart, and brain from Old world blues
-Have to carry around a shovel and dig up all the graves in the wasteland, because the courrier might be in one
-Have to side with Mr. House
Didnt you say during the grave robber video that Luck may have had something to do with the loot spawns? If nothing else, the looting perks may give a better assortment to use/sell, if you'd ever want to try this run again.

Above Angel cave on the cliffs where you go to rescue the baby bighorner I found a hollowed-out rock with police baton in it.

congratulations on the 5 years wish you 2 all the happiness. an idea for a run revisiting the abc challenge, however you do it with perks, unlocking perks per level and trying to pick them from a-z if letters have to be skipped so be it , but if you have a weapon related perk such as gunslinger you can only use weapons based around the perk until you level again. also, an idea is only using what you find on dead bodies (not killed by you) recommend pinning parties against one another like powder ganger's good springs / legion with anyone who sneezes ect . i doubt anyone ever reads comments but again congratulations.

happy anniversary. at least you tried. i think the only way that run was going to get off the ground would be save scumming until you got a rock with something good in it right off the bat, and that would probably take longer than a pacifist run.
You know what we need? A follow up run, Can You Beat Fallout: New Vegas With Only The Hollowed-Out Rock? AKA grab a Rebar club or install a mod that gives a silly rock weapon and just go to town making decisions that only a rock would.
How about a "Real Diamond City Boy" play through of Fallout 4 where you can only use stuff found in diamond city and only heal with noodles from power noodles.

I think you can actually so this in fallout 4. There are apparently 2 hollowed out stones somewhere near museum of witchcraft but I never found them in my 6000 hours
The thumbnail having The Rock's face hiding in it pissed me off in a good way
I have only ever had a weapon spawn in 1 rock in 1 run and that was even before all the DLCs were out. I have always assumed the loot table for them got changed to junk items after Lonesome Road came out.
you know what could've made this more fun? I remember there being a scrap to weapons mod that let you throw drinking glasses and fight with junk tools, you could've made it work with the wrenches and hammers

I feel like Luck should have been one of the SPECIALs you pumped into for these "container" runs. Doesn't it affect what's in them?
So this is an interesting one, idk if its nessesarily hard but I personally think its fun as hell. Can you beat fallout new vegas as naked snake. In other words, everytime you start a new mission, you must start it with nothing. Every mission becomes OSP (on site procurement) like from phantom pain. Its super fun to do imo. Kill the first guy with like a knife from a table, take his pistol, pop a couple other guys with it, take their lever action and ammo, so on and so forth.

I once got spiked knuckle dusters from a rock (specifically the one next to the memorial near Goodsprings). I was a wee lil low level when I found them and they carried me hard for a while
I think with a slight change the challenge would be possible:
"Can you beat Fallout New Vegas with only wild loot"
Only stuff that you find "in nature", so hollowed-out rocks, mines that lie on the ground, bodies that are already dead (because if you put them down, it wouldn't be "in nature"), plants, etc.
But not stuff from people or animals you put down, stuff from inside man-made containers, stimpacks, stuff you can buy from vendors (but selling things is okay), etc
As tl;dr only stuff that you can find in the wild, but not stuff that you (or other people) have to "make"
A bunch of rocks gave you nothing. Thus, you were allowed to use nothing as a weapon (this translates to unarmed)
Fallout 4 probably wouldve been possible
The one and only rock in that game has a hunting rifle with ammo, healing supplies, caps, and even a couple of baseball grenades.

There’s a rock just north of good springs, the one by the big white cross monument thing with the graves, that Carries a knife or something equally pathetic everytime I play. To do this you have to of course dress the part
Can only eat fancy lad snack cakes to heal (substitute for Twinkies)
The only gun you can use is the lever action rifle, but you are allowed melee and explosives.
You cannot use a companion (alone on the open road)
You should attempt to get the Zombie Kill of the Year (Kill someone in a spectacular fashion)
Finally I think that Tallahassee would probably side with either the Minute Men or the Brotherhood.
(Bonus You have to say "you either nut up or shut up")

I sat here and thought for a bit about this. I dont think in any of my runs or hours in this game have I ever gotten a weapon from the hollowed out rocks. Always just ammo and random junk items.

I had an idea for a challenge run in any game, not sure if you would consider it, but here it goes anyway:
"Can I beat Insert_name_of_the_game_here by only using non-lethal hits"
AS in, some games allow you to kill dragons by just repeatedly hitting them in their claws, or killing people by shooting at their helmets, or even their hands.
