Awesome video on transforming the P80 wagon! Absolutely love it! Heart breaking though to see the interiors being ripped in those manners on the weight saving part. Lol~~
I miss our 96 850GLT, what a great vehicle with over 300k on the odometer before an exhaust valve failed. And yes my radiators plastic end tanks did crack...lol!!
I got the same radiator in my Volvo, it's really neat. I was thinking about stripping the interiour too, but since its an AWD it won't be a lightweight either way
Nice job! I stripped in the same way my 850 2,5 liter 20 valve for some track day action and measured weight for every part! The most heavier is back seat back support part. Unfortunately I scrapped that car, because head gasquet was damaged and water went in cylinders. Now I have 850 estate with B5204S engine for the BTCC project and it sits while I am collecting parts. For brakes I got the set with four caliper magnesium BREMBO supports and 330mm rotors in front and 2 caliper alloy supports with 300mm rotors at the back from Mercedes Benz W220 S500, the funny thing is, that You can put the rotor on volvo without rebuilding anything - it just fits. :D
I love this series! awesome to see p80 content. During the alignment you mentioned caster, BNE Dynamics sells spherical control arm bushings that allow you to add positive caster Also they sell spherical shifter cable end bushings and they made a HUGE difference in shifter feel (and throw), combining that with the delrin shifter base bushings and it feels incredible. Love the content!
Glad you love the series so far, Jeremy! We love BNE Dynamics and have upgraded shifter cable end bushings in the 850! We're using a C70 Convertible (solid mount) subframe in the car, which uses 4 bolt control arms. BNE's spherical control arm bushings are only for the original two bolt control arms, unfortunately.
@@fcpeuro ah gotcha, did not know they were exclusive to the two bolt. The shifter base bushings are also a huge tangible difference from Snabb, they keep the shifter solid where it bolts to the floor and they're only $45, makes it feel gated in combo with the cable end bushings. I was curious about the chassis brace you added, do you think that by itself made enough difference to justify buying one new? I know you guys got yours used which seems like the route to go I've just never seen one
@@fcpeuro well i do use 850 subframe but there is DELRIN bushings to put in them. and then you just drill in a few pop nuts and the fix the C70 brace front V brace.
You're absolutely right Ian. We actually talked about the Delta Link rear suspension in Season 1 when we refreshed the Delta link ends and trailing arm bushings.
do you adjusterd the rear axle? it is adjustable quite alot and when that is not giving it. They you can bend a little in it to be able to give more where you need it. left side does change the right side when you do adjust. Also. Do some look on MPRE (DOT) SE and buy the rear buschings and the camberplate 3* (that gives around 5* camber. the 5* camberplate does give you around 7*) also buy the inside buschings and be able to change the angle on the inner part of the axle to be able to get more or less angles. I did buy the set and i did put more camber on the outside but then i did adjust the "inside" to get more closer to my goal. You can do alot whit 850 cars. Also do put dubbel swaybars in the rear (there is like 4 different mm thickness on them )just put a bit of metal in the "thin" part of it and weld it together. 2 longer bolts and it does a bit also.
The best Volvo build video ever! What spring rates are you using? Did disconnecting the front sway bar offer more initial bite at turn in? Any oil starvation issue on the track? The stock oil pan does not provide much protection from oil sloshing around. Thanks for the great contents.
Thanks, Fortis! We're running 9kg front and 5kg rear for spring rates. We have not had any issues with oil starvation on the track. The RN engines have a better oil pan than the original N engine oil pan. An even better upgrade would be an R oil pan.
Pulling that interior out to some (who are looking for parts) is like ripping of a bandaid :P was going to turn my S40 T4 in to a BTCC these stock are only 2821pound with 200hp mines making around 350, front seats weigh a lot! with the SIPS etc.
Those fold down rear seats do NOT want to come out. The lower part comes out with no tools, but the seat backs have clips on both sides that seem to come out differently on every car, and never easily.
wow, like the big brake kit but the paint job looks.......rushed? would have taken an extra few minute to remove the hardware and connector lines so it doesn't look like it was spray painted by chimpanzees.....
Thanks, seidenii! That is a very good point. Comparing it to another car will definitely help add some context! We have some plans for that, but to give you some context, a track-prepped BMW E36 runs in the 38-second range around the FCP Euro Proving Grounds.
if you plan on making it lighter taking out the dash and unnecessary wiring that won't be used. seats in the front to replace them with sports/bucket seats as the stock front seats are heavy. also steering wheel and replacing it with a aftermarket one may not be a bad idea to get rid of a few kg
Okay, it's no longer a legit street car It's now a legit track car. Sad you didn't keep the interior. I feel like that takes a lot of normalcy/ utility/ carness. of the car :) But still a sweet series!
I'm up for a challenge with my wagon if you guys want to sponsor my trip up to your testing grounds. Would make for I good video and I can totally just drive my wagon there and back 😉. It's not a 500hp monster just a FWD TeeDeeEye.
Yeah I forgot it's a separate spring and damper in the rear and not a "true" coilover where you can(at least on BC coils)adjust height by shortening/lenghtening the whole body of them without doing anything to the spring Edit: spelling
In season 1, we installed a Euro-spec V70R rear sway bar but kept the stock front sway bar to help prevent understeer. It does still have a bit of body roll, but that's not necessarily a bad thing! Too stiff of a suspension can hinder performance, it's key to find a balance of compliance and control. Feeding the wheel is definitely an issue due to the large-diameter steering wheel and relatively slow steering rack. We solve this in the next episode, stay tuned!
Goddamnit now I have to buy another 850 and send whatever budget is left over to FCP for parts. Thanks alot.
You're very welcome 😂
I been all over market place looking for a semi decent car to buy since I seen this episode
Thank you for bringing this back, very excited for the progress. And bringing back the former glory to the estate on the track:)
Happy to bring it back! Glad you're enjoying it!

Learned something today! Never knew what corner balancing actually took. Great video!!
Glad you were able to learn something! It's definitely one of the great benefits of adjustable coilovers!
as a V70 driver (170hp manual) , i am in LOVE.
As a Test drive unlimited Fan, the Grand Tourismo theme is... orgasmic?
Large grin here, SPOT ON!
Pls no music durin T5 time! Awesome build you make us Swedes proud :)
You guys are killing it! I’m loving this series!
Thanks, Stacy! Glad you're loving it so far. Stay tuned for more!
This series deserves at least 100x the views. Really well made and entertaining!

Went our without a fight!
Loved the technical detail about suspension setup and how it affects vehicle dynamics. If you ever add ballast please hide it in a paper grocery bag!

does the rear brakes is plug and play ? the rotors is the same dimension? how does the calipers fit and the pad to the disk?
Really digging this series! Love watching all of the iterations/setups and how that translates on track. Keep it up!
Thanks supercarmio! Really glad you're enjoying it!
Great build. We are going to need to see some 3 wheel corning footage by the end of it.
Thanks, Eric! Oh, don't worry, we'll be sure to get some more 3-wheeling footage by the end of it!
c70 chassis bracing is a great addition to the wagon too. Cheap and easy. Also the rear delta link is 2in wider on c70, also good addition.
In season 1, we installed a C70 convertible subframe and center chassis brace. It definitely makes a massive difference!

I'm surprised you didn't mention the delta link rear suspension. That really is what makes the p80 a great FWD performance platform
You're absolutely right Ian. We actually talked about the Delta Link rear suspension in Season 1 when we refreshed the Delta link ends and trailing arm bushings.
Thursday has become quite a good day!
I'm glad you have an rn engine, so now I know I need to put an exhaust on my p2 v70 knowing it'll sound like this.

We love you too.
Question - would you rather drive track with sway bars on or without? Did it affected to the grip better without?
5:25 _”you destroyed this car the second you bought it for this project”_ savage emphasis 😂🤣
God i love this 850 series ! Keep it up!

nice to see a helmet with those lap times now, even though we can't see the flow anymore! (what's the song in the tracklist?!)
We had to sacrifice the flow for safety, especially now that the 850 is getting faster!

Can’t wait to dive back into my s70 one day…
No better time than the present!
Nice. Maybe do gridlife with it.
You might have just told the future!
My guess for the next power upgrade is a stronger fuel pump, and green giant or equivalent fuel injectors then a fuel remap. Just a guess.
Is what you said about the wagon accessory in the back to
Hold the clips for the cargo ney true . My wagon has some.

Yes, admittedly, it was a quick spray job prior to the track day! We do plan on eventually getting the calipers properly powder coated.
Y guys need ultra racing full catalogue kit! 🤭
order them straight from Malaysia 🇲🇾
Pretty good, guys... Why don't you add another fast-ish car's lap time around the same test pad to add some context?
Thanks, seidenii! That is a very good point. Comparing it to another car will definitely help add some context! We have some plans for that, but to give you some context, a track-prepped BMW E36 runs in the 38-second range around the FCP Euro Proving Grounds.

19:56 Aren't those linear springs? Adjusting preload wouldn't change anything but the ride height of the car, right?
That's correct, Juhela. Corner balancing is adjusting the ride height at each corner to balance out the vehicle.
Yeah I forgot it's a separate spring and damper in the rear and not a "true" coilover where you can(at least on BC coils)adjust height by shortening/lenghtening the whole body of them without doing anything to the spring

These are the 17" teamdynamics right? just wondering which offset and width you guys used?
They're 17x7.5, ET25.
Did I see illegal brake fluid at 10:13 ?
Very nice
I LOVE this.
We Love that you Love this!
What size tires are those? Really hard to get anything over 215 on these, are there spacers? How'd ya do it?
The tires are 225-45-17. No spacers, but we had to remove the plastic fender liners and roll the fenders to fit them without rubbing.
Bring back FCP Import
super cool car!
Glad you like it, Victor!
Whaaaat? You guys trashed the rare CD changer cover panel??? Noooo!
Most of the interior was in very rough shape, but don't worry, we didn't throw out anything that was salvageable!
@@fcpeuro let me know if you are willing to sell that cd changer cover panel! :)

If you guys can find a carbon hood and get rid of the factory hood hinges, youll loose a good amount of weight too
