According to everything I have read and watched,,, when Robin was given the script for good morning Vietnam he told the director it wasn’t funny and that you can’t script comedy so the sat him dawn in a sound booth and recorded him for 3 hours and only followed the basic guidelines of the move ,,, in one take ,,,, and that’s what they used in the movie RIP Robin

There are certain people (entertainers, musicians, writers, political figures etc.) that we gravitate to and will always remember. Jack Lemon, John Lennon, JFK etc. Robin was one of them. I saw him live at the Laugh Stop in Newport Beach in 1977 before he made it on TV or the Big Screen. I told him he reminded me of Danny Kaye- after seeing his Hamlet with a Check or Soviet twist. He shrugged his shoulders and really didn't reply. But onstage he KILLED. He will never be forgotten and he is / will be missed. MO

For someone who trained at Juilliard, Robin lacked timing, and delivery skills. You can barely understand what he is saying. He annoyed fellow actors like Ethan Hawke and fellow comedians like Jay Leno who all worked hard to deliver their lines clearly.
Thankfully modern technology exists for the hearing impaired; it takes quick wit to understand the same; artists are taught the conventional “rules” of their craft so they may choose to follow….or knowingly shred. I’ll take Robin Williams all day long while hitting the 10 second reverse.

I've been watching Robin Williams interviews from the 70s/80s for the 3/4 hours and I haven't laughed this hard ever. Laughed so hard I've cried about 8 times. Most comedians you have to be willing to have a laugh to find them funny but he is such an insane genius, feels like 100 jokes a minute and some of them are seriously brilliant. He is head and shoulders above anyone else in that way. His flame burned so blindingly bright, we should be very thankful to have had him for as long as we did.

Robin was like a reflection of the media in the 20th century. If it was seen on tv/films or elsewhere, he probably saw it and stored it for 'later use'. And he did. He used his talent well. I also LOVE watching Carson react to Robin's humour. He (Carson) looks like he's gonna have a heart attack. Both men were class.

Steve Urban Band Jonathan Winters and Rodney Dangerfield come to mind. I recall Winters coming out to shake hands with Johnny and Ed, and Johnny would start giggling because he knew Winters would do something spontaneous and hysterical.

Rodney Dangerfield did it to Johnny, and Robin also as we see here. The third is not Rickles or Jim Carrey, they made Johnny laugh, but not so that he had to leave the chair and stand up.
To be so high and humble required the troubled mind of voices he would always hear and a loneliness of heart so near. Robin those who struggle today are a bit darker without you. You made the pain of life melt and gave us wings.
Robin Williams was a genius! I saw this in my room in '87. I was laughing so hard I was crying - upsetting my parents who were trying to go to bed. Carson was the perfect host because he let the guest shine and gave just enough to play with. We won't see this again - Carson or Williams.

to be honest I'm glad I wasn't aware of it when he died where was I? Ohhh MY life was upside down with a aN abusive relationship so I lost track if all that was important to me. Kinda glad I didn't know that he died.... I don't think I would've been able to handle that.

Dammit... the world is not a better place without Robin Williams in it. This really made me miss that guy...
joemikejake I have several friends who are gone and the world is a smaller place. One of them had the same manic personality of Robin Williams and I weep for their loss.

It is so depressing that while we go through this crisis, it's sad he's not here to help us through it. Robin would definitely help us get through this better.
But he did, he thought us how to see the lighter side of life with fun and laughter which is good medicine for the soul.
So thankful for Robin. Just watching him on YT is a great relief from all this crap.Watching Johnny break up is priceless.

What a gift of a man he was and for those of us who grew up watching this incredibly brilliant man we should be greatful for all the joys and tears he brought to us throughout his short life..and be even more greatful that we can relive his greatest moments like this when we can and bring a smile to our faces during the dark times and dull moments.

Saw Robin do stand up live in Atlantic City. Endless stream of consciousness in real time. Astonishing. He started with 45 minutes without coming up for air.

He was the best and so very sweet,I found a song from Noah Gunderson titled Robin Williams if you get chance listen to it it will make you cry. It's a beautiful tribute. 5 years and we are still sad, Hope is resting in peace😇😇😇

Robin was like a reflection of the media in the 20th century. If it was seen on tv/films or elsewhere, he probably saw it and stored it for 'later use'.
And he did.
He used his talent well.
I also LOVE watching Carson react to Robin's humour. He (Carson) looks like he's gonna have a heart attack. Both men were class.
Robin i will never forget you, you made some of my days with your kind and funny way. Seeing this made my actual day! Rest in peace.

That was Robin. Only a few comedians made Johnny fall off the chair or made him stand up. Robin was one of the three comedians.

Steve Urban Band Jonathan Winters and Rodney Dangerfield come to mind. I recall Winters coming out to shake hands with Johnny and Ed, and Johnny would start giggling because he knew Winters would do something spontaneous and hysterical.
+Brian Coffey Winters and Williams are kindred spirits. i'll never forget how when Robin said he considered Jonathan his "mentor", Winters was like, "oh puh-leez. Idol." :) smth like that
Rodney Dangerfield did it to Johnny, and Robin also as we see here. The third is not Rickles or Jim Carrey, they made Johnny laugh, but not so that he had to leave the chair and stand up.

Robin Williams was a genius! I saw this in my room in '87. I was laughing so hard I was crying - upsetting my parents who were trying to go to bed. Carson was the perfect host because he let the guest shine and gave just enough to play with. We won't see this again - Carson or Williams.
OMG, laughing so hard but so sad at the same time. Watching this is like watching the death of late night comedy and one of the finest comedians at the same time. I can't believe I am actually tearing up while watching how much Carson is enjoying Williams' performance. I so miss this! I haven't watched late night TV for years because it is so polluted with politics. Miss you Robin. Sad that you didn't know how many loved your work.

I miss him very much. I cried and cried for days after Robins death and I still miss him. At least I can watch old footage of his movies or interviews and not feel heartbroken anymore.

to be honest I'm glad I wasn't aware of it when he died where was I? Ohhh MY life was upside down with a aN abusive relationship so I lost track if all that was important to me. Kinda glad I didn't know that he died.... I don't think I would've been able to handle that.
