- After we have swapped out the original pickups, today we are finally getting around to putting in some Schaller locking tuners!
apart from having more mass and slightly better tuning stability i'll be able to change strings way more easy and fast.
Some might call it being lazy, I call it being efficient ;)
ENJOY!!
PS: If you have any idea as to what upgrade might be a good one for this guitar, be sure to leave it down in the comments ;)
Nut and bridge 🙂
Do you remember the model number of those Schaller locking tuners? Thanks
Great video! I'm looking on buying the same guitar to turn it into a monster, change pickups, tuners, etc, did you remember which tuners you used? .50 locking, .52 locking, .52 locking, .53 locking or .55 locking?
Following. I need to know.
Another cool upgrade man! I’m still thinking about doing the pickup/pickguard switch like you did but I was thinking EMG H4. That and tuners aren’t really the priority for me but I definitely want to get a better nut and fixed bridge.
Great video Stein! Excellent point on buying LEFT handed locking tuners.
You're very welcome!
Where did you get your locking tuners from?
These are the same tuners I put into my Schecter Reaper-6 last summer, good choice!
Neat! It's great that they fit perfectly without you having to drill any new holes or anything like that. I personally don't have any upgrade ideas, but I think it would be cool if at the end of the whole process you added a sticker with something evil like a skull or something 💀. Unless you want to leave it full black, of course.
A sticker? You 13?
@@fondfarewell2 No, I'm 150 😬
Locking tuners the way to go. I have many guitars swapped out the stock tuners. Gotoh, schaller and hipshot are always an upgrade. The only stock tuners I love are from PRS
I looked these up but apparently there are different sizes and I have no clue which ones will fit this guitar. Help!!!
I only had one size to choose from. I believe they were the ones for the 10mm holes
Thanks for gr8 info and demo bro..bridge mod please
I would have put 2 EMG 57/ 66 or 2 fishman moderns ..and maybe an evertune bridge but probably would be too expensive to send it to evertune to be done unless you think you could do it..( not sure if i would like that or not because the locking tuners really help tuning stability already..not sure if worth the expense.) I plan on getting one of these and modding it as well...have always liked Ibanez reverse headstocks..this is a cool looking guitar also. Very shreddy looking..im a shred guy and i tried one in the store...oh yes i can shred with this guitar🤘🤨
What model in mh are they? The headstock is thicker than a 121 so I need to find the post heights to get the right size.
Can the new truss rod cover be installed without any issues? The one that can flip out for easier access on the newer RG. The one that came with this guitar is just too plain, I think. Anyways, great video!
I have not tried it yet but at first glance I don't think it would be an issue.
Maybe the holes won't quite align but that's easily fixed with a small drill bit 😁
I use this guitar too. I would like to know which website do you order this tuner? Can I have a link? Thank you.
I ordered it from Thomann 😉
Nice upgrade - i want to do the same to my grgr131 - exactly which tuners did you order from Thomann ??
I am looking at the Schaller M6 135 locking 6L
I used the Schaller M6 135 Locking 1R BC
@@SteinG I was looking at the part you listed and it says the 1R BC are Right handed. In the video you said to order left handed ones with Morten has correct those are the 1L BC.
@@dethpig420 Thanks for correcting Stein; I'm looking for the correct locking tuners. Ouch!!! I just looked at the price, ($170.00). I paid $250 for the guitar and personally don't think it's worth investing that much more for this Ibanez; I'll continue to use the tuners that came with the guitar. With that said, I do have a Gibson Les Paul Custom with locking tuners and it sure makes changing strings easier; excellent at holding tune also.
@@ahaua1 I ordered the 1L BC part # and worked for me.
My grg131 should be arriving this week, this looks sick, and good tip for lefthanded! I heard pickups upgrade is a good idea, maybe next? New strings? I need to see All of these things :)
Awesome man! Take a look around my videos. There is one where I swap out my old pickup 😉 see how you like that one.
What tuners did you put in? Think they fit grg121dx?
DiMarzio Titan set. Thank me later. Nice vid btw.
sand away those labels : 8:32
Bonjour, c'est quel référence exactement ? Merci
I used the Schaller M6 135 Locking 1R BC
@@SteinG ; Thank you !
Put a Evertune bridge on it
Would you have to route the wood a bit to do so?
@@dethpig420 yes it would need to be routed out for the evertune to fit
I love my ibanez gio but the one thing I hate is how often it goes out of tune did you have the same issues and if so did it help?
i don't really have this issue, it stays in tune real well. i always stretch the strings (when new) before playing and put some graphite in the nut slots to help the strings glide through
Upgrade to dimarzio pickups please hehe
Nope xD
how are the frets any buzz? im really thinking about buying this guitar to mod it out.
Not a single one! I have an ICT700 that buzzes way more than this one has ever done out of the box. Ibanez sure is stepping up it's game in the budget classed guitar realm 😉👌
What guage strings are the new strings ❓
I use Ernie ball "skinny top, heavy bottom"
@@SteinG did you need to modify the nut for them to fit?
I am sorry someone asked already.
Spend $222 for these locking tuners or spend it on a proper Ibanez rg..oh how to decide!
You can hate all you want man, I really couldn't care less 😁👍 thanks for your input!
