Later in interviews she pointed that she had ment show business world, not the planet.
she understands what we are still too proud to mention..
Her point is that celebrities should not be worshipped
This is speech is even more relevant now than it was 23 years ago
she ate this no cap
Yup great girl 👍
Iconic.
For sure
I'm glad she made this speech.
Crazy how this was seen as controversial at the time. Now it's conventional wisdom: celebrity is artifice, and authenticity rules. Also I remember people saying she was drunk? Sounds perfectly sober to me.
GO WITH YOURSELF. Legend. Icon
I love Fiona Apple!
fiona apple, still relevant, back when mtv was relevant.
I remember seeing this when I was a kid and I respected her so much for it and then she was basically blacklisted for it.
What a precious woman
It took 21 years for MTV to accept this speach and upload it here
Along with all the other MTV moments they uploaded. It’s a shame social media relevance is a bit slow at MTV headquarters
So if I’m being my authentic self and saying just about everything that everyone else is already thinking, and still get slammed with hate, I think it’s fair to say that this world is bulls**t :))
Right on!
the best to ever do it, goddamn
I remember after this, MTV tore her to shreds with the ‘go with yourself’ quote on a “Celebrity Deathmatch” episode. 💀
She is so real!
so real, love her
Fetch The Bolt Cutters is insane
She did have issues with her mother as well. Fiona is amazing. I love her and i remember this.

MeowRoof lol tomorrow
It's good 😎
My life mantra right here ⭐️
Still the realist. She must have been so nervous, but she absolutely slayed.
