- In its centenary year Flying Scotsman arrives at Carlisle from York hauling The Waverley - without diesel assistance.
The anticipated huge crowds didn't materialise although Carlisle station was inevitably busy with the passengers from the train desperate to be photographed beside it.
I've also included some of the unusual services which operate on Sundays only - and finished the day with a few captures at Floriston, between Carlisle and Gretna Junction.
Another great video Tim!
Thanks Charles.
Great 👍
Many thanks.
Nice footage Tim and your drone footage especially thanks for sharing. Brian
Glad you enjoyed it Brian - hopefully I'll be able to keep going for a while yet! Best wishes.
Spot on Tim with the Scotsman. Didn't know about the chimney and the other two that we not part of the original. Floriston shot looks a potential location for the future. Thanks. David👍👍
Sadly, my driving days will finish in just over a week from now. Floriston is not accessible by public transport - so - unlikely there'll be any further footage from there.
Future filming will have to be at locations served by bus or train - and Dumfries and Galloway is not well served by either.
super drone footage Tim. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Tony - I used a new wide-angle lens which proved useful for capturing the whole of the station but looking at the rest of the scene, I don't think that the quality is as good as the standard lens.
Nice footage, I was on holiday at the time in Scotland and really wanted to see Scotsman on this trip, but there was no timetable as to when it would arrive at Waverley, so I missed a chance to see. Was quite annoyed but a trip to Bo’ness softened the blow!
Actually it was the Centenary Weekend a few days beforehand that I missed out on, not this trip. Whoops
Sadly, multiple instances of trespass - often mass trespass - mean that nowadays when Scotsman is running the timetable isn't published until a few hours before the actual trip.
Glad you enjoyed the video - best wishes.
Great footage of Scotsman! Spotted myself and my Dad a couple of times! Plus I loved the bit where the woman jumped out of her skin!
Yes - it makes me laugh every time I see it!
Thanks Tim.
Carlisle Citadel Station is looking less like a gardener's allotment now.
Hmmm - there's still far too much greenery on display - stations didn't look like this when I was a boy - but then we didn't have to satisfy "elf and safety"!
Very nice Sunday scenes Tim and some great views from the drone. Cheers, Jeff.
Thanks Jeff - best wishes.
Very interesting shots during the morning, I completely forgot about the 47s and only realised after they went past.
Thanks Levi - yes, I forgot too but fortunately remembered just in time. If it hadn't been Sunday I doubt I'd have made it through the traffic to catch them at Floriston.
I did not know there was a service from Darlington, a shame it does not run on weekdays. Odd there were not many to see Flying Scotsman York was packed I watched on Railcam. She did well with 12 on and no box on the back. The Nottingham service takes me back to the days of loco hauled I used to use to here and they went through to Glasgow on your line which I did a few times Good to see your camera was well today.
Thanks Colin. Not too many trains from Carlisle on Sundays - but some interesting routes. 60103 gave a beautiful quiet departure - no fuss, no slipping - a testament to her power and the crew's skill.
@@schoolshorts I think the driver will be the most experienced we have now. He was a driving instructor. I met him years ago when he was still working on BR. He is passed out on many types of locomotive both steam and diesel. The A3 A4 have lots of power and do easily slip on starting, he handled her very well. I am a bit limited for getting out early on Sundays due to not many busses. I was tempted to set off to Leeds but the bus would of got there only 10 mins before Scotsman arrived, not long to walk to the station platform.
Thanks again Tim, good to see you managed to tame your temperamental camera hope it is a long term fix.
We can but hope John - we can but hope!
Citadel was quiet on that morning - i took the 0925 to Ribblehead and filmed the train at Blea Moor. Had intended to get back to Carlisle by 1530 but my train was cancelled - 2 hours chatting to the ladies in the gift shop on the station! Got to Appleby for the return waterstop. What abstrange syncopation to the exhaust - almost like a snare drum. See you tomorrow
It was an interesting departure - appeared absolutely effortless, no barking exhaust, no slipping - a testament to both the locomotive's power and the skill of the footplate team.
Glad I didn’t make it looking at those crowds! See you tomorrow?
I hope so!
10:46 that guy with the Boba Fett bag is me
Were you on the tour?
@@schoolshorts no I’d just come from Newcastle to see it (again as I’d already seen it when it went through there on the Tuesday)
Has these passenger cars always used knuckle couplers?
I believe the Mark 1 carriages used them from their introduction in the 1950s - much safer than the old screw couplings.
