Life is Strange has changed my thinking of life ever since i played the first one. The story of it is just such a masterpiece that i don't have enough lines to explain how amazing this game is. It really changed me ... in a good way.

I was surprised that it took 4 hours to complete episode 1.
I'm enjoying it so far. It's nice to get a little back story on Rachel and Chloe. The teen angst is a bit much at times but other than that I had a good time playing it.

Didn’t play the game yet, but I would put my money on the writing. Let’s face it, there were some very… cringe moments on the writing of the original game. Nothing that actually makes it bad, but it was noticeable.

I have played before the storm, and I have to say, the dialogue is quite better than last time. Yes it does fall into those cringe moments, but they are far less abundant than the first game.

You can't really have a completely story focused game with bad dialogue, so yes it did make it bad
I think that Rachel's character was a bit cringy. The writing isn't bad, and the dialogue is a bit better than last time around. Still cringy, but better.
I beat the first episode yesterday and I liked it more that I was expecting to. I won't give any spoilers but the relationship and moments Rachel Amber and Chloe Price develop here are amazing. The best part of Episode 1 without a doubt.

Having played the original, it made me act nicer to the characters such as David and Nathan, fuck Victoria though, she's a bitch. The 'cringy' dialogue doesn't bother me, it didn't in the first game either, I like it. I also liked how you could choose your outfit at the beginning. The fact that Ashly Burch isn't voicing Chloe doesn't bother me either, I thought I would but the new actor has done a great job so far, in my opinion. Can't wait for the next two episodes and Max's Farewell episode

I really enjoyed life is strange, I pre-ordered before the storm. For people that preorderd the game, a review is kind of irrelevant.
I also to not have a need to defend either game - it is clearly a "like it or not" kind of game from the premise alone. The gameplay is just solid to good (never "amazing" or "redefining" - why should it?), the dialogs are cringy (which some like and some can not stand), ... I understand the critic on the game, yet can easily enjoy it for what it is.

In the original Life is Strange I did not like Chloe, because there was not enough time to get to know her, but now I am quite sure that if I would play original part after going through episodes from Before the Storm, my final decision would be way more dramatic.

Since it's Chloe Price, it's quite accurate to her personality. Even if she doesn't has a cool power like Max, she has backtalk. It's quite interesting that it's optimistic but usually you can see yourself using it because you feel yourself grounded with Chloe. Following her story, you can still feel the teenage delinquency that is her flow. Instead of photographs (since she isn't artsy), she graffitis (which is equally as good). You can also do very small things in Before the Storm, much like the original Life is Strange. It's quite interesting in general, since some people like Chloe Price and some don't.
Weird how so many people "cringe" at this series. If you are cringing at these games then its not a game for you and or makes you less of a gamer. When you play a game, any game, you are suppose to step into the characters shoes, place your mind into their universe, think about what that character would do, say or act and etc. It just pisses me off in a way that there are so many "gamers" that complain about this amazing series being too cringy and shit when in reality its not, the dialog in these games are as real as i could think of. With their area, their backstory etc, the dialog makes sense for it to be the way that it is. Yes there are moments where YOU can make a awkward moment within the games but awkward and cringe are not the same.

What system? Because if it's in PC then you're probably going to have to think twice about that. Lots of controversy about it. Such as its DRM and last minute EULA etc.

Anthony Rosario there's this DRM called Denuvo it's currently the most hated DRM ever created in human history. It kills Hard Drives (SSDs) from what I heard. It requires a always online and require reactivation every few days. It's anti consumer and doesn't affect pirates at all and this was released last minute with its EULA (terms of agreement) .It also spies in you 24/7 and if it ever detects hardware changes it bricks your games until reactivation.

Also AMD based graphics card won't even launch so people are going to have to wait a few days to get a patch and the PC specs requirements are insane. 150% more demanding then the original one. Also thanks to the crap DRM only Windows 7+ are supported unlike the old one which supported all operating systems including 32bit.

It's not actually a prequel. It's a middle release between the original Life is Strange and Life is Strange 2 which will have a whole new story. This is a story game, not something to play just because it's fun to play like many other games which your arguement can make sense and often do, but to experience through the story like you would a TV series, but different.

You're right about the hit the ground running part. I feel like the pacing is way too fast, we see the characters just meeting and then with in the 2nd time they meet chole is already liking rachel a lot, with in the same day they are already fighting and then they make up. this happens all in one day, also at the end there is this really weird part that feels like there is a scene cut from it. Chole is walking home and all the sudden it just jump cuts to rachel standing by a tree and Rachel looks at Chole and says "Glad you came' so did they just cut a scene out of the game where rachel texts chole or did they run into each other or what?

It's strange because I think a lot of the dialogue is actually pretty good in most parts and can be pretty funny and impactful, I thought the scene where chloe and Rachel have an argument in the junk yard was brilliantly written but then a couple of things that are said in other conversations can be really awkward and cringe and your like why did they put that in the game when you know they can do better

This is a lot more of a fair review than some others I've seen (having played the episode myself). Thanks Falcon, I'd love to see more of these Before You Buys done by you.

This is a game I have been waiting for. And opening it up, I felt more connected to chloe. Reading her journals and listening to her dialogue, not only do you feel who she is. You get to see her understand herself. This (even though its the first episode) feels more emotional and overall better than LIS. Which is NOT an easy thing to say!
I enjoyed the first episode of this and I'm looking forward to to remaining two and the bonus episode in the "Deluxe" pack. That said, I'm finding the relationship between Chloe and Rachel to feel kind of rushed here. It's like you're instantly supposed to buy that they're falling for each other from hanging out one afternoon. When you get into the fight with Rachel and have the option to say that you don't want to lose "this friendship" or "something more," I'm part of the 30% or so that opted to say friendship because it doesn't feel like anything more to me at this point with it not feeling rushed.
The romance between Max and Chloe in the original, for example, had time to build where it felt natural. You get the chance to kiss Chloe in episode three, after the two of you have already gone on several escapades and had time for a relationship to really develop so it felt believable to have this kiss come up and make you think they could be something more than friends. In this it doesn't feel quite as natural and it feels like the game wants us to just buy that Chloe and Rachel were a thing because the original game hinted that they were. I understand that this series only has three episodes to work with as opposed to the original's five, but I'm hoping their relationship doesn't feel so rushed in the remaining episodes.
Chloe and David's new voice actors also take some getting used to. I know why they have new voice actors, but it's still a bummer.
That said, I did overall enjoy the episode. It's nice to be exploring Arcadia Bay before the events of the first game and fun to see how characters like Chloe, Frank, David, Nathan, and Victoria were before Max's arrival. And the D&D game you share with the two nerdy friends was probably one of my favorite parts in this episode.
When Rachel says she wants to climb Everest and you know she gonna end in unsigned grave between trash...

The main two problems I have with the game is the fact that it's a prequel and the change in Chloe's voice actor. But they're not major problems. I like the game so far, and I hope that the story gets better with each episodes and doesn't go a bit downhill on the last episode like the first one. It does suck to not basically be a "human time machine" but I think Chloe's capable of making up for it.

I was surpried at the really emotional ending. I wasn't feeling Chloe and Rachel's relationship all that much up until that point and now I'm excited to see where the story goes next. I usually wait for episodic games to be completed before purchasing, but I made an exception here considering how much I love the original Life Is Strange, despite its flaws (which I will acknowledge. The game is now perfect but nothing is, I still love it to death).

rachel goes missing 3 years after this game. Decknine said they made it take place 3 years before the first game so they can do whatever they want with the story. So no one knows what's gonna happen

I know the 1st episode is a bit mixed since the writing is a bit off but hopefully it will get better in the next episode. I mean it may seem a bit odd how Chloe acts but its just giving you an idea of why she is like this in the first place and why Rachael went missing in the original Life is Strange.
My thoughts on the ep 1 (teen drama) it's doesn't really hock you to play more like the original game Ep1 (see a person getting killed)
I definitely think the game fits well into the universe, I think the only reason the game so far is successful with existing fans and new players is because Dontnod was heavily involved in its creation; something rather rare these days.
Yeah, it's a little cringe at times, but, that's part of being a teenager. I think back to my time as a teenager (and I'm not from the part of the USA the game is set in) and my friends and I were hella cringe in retrospect. Hindsight's 20/20 though.
I'd definitely recommend the game to anyone that likes a good story, I will say that both this prequel and the original touch on some heavy topics. Topics other studios don't have the balls to go near.
I've played LiS and liked it, BTS on other hand was much weaker in my opinion.
1) Chloe and Rachel aren't very likable characters even if they have some sympathetic features. Both are immature, reckless and selfish. In fact Rachael even tops Chloe in that regard in ending of the first episode. In first game we had Max that took role of level-headed character in contrast to Chloe. In the end it is hard for me connect to both characters due those traits.
2) Conclusion of the story is pretty much that none of things we will do in this game will matter in the end because we know how it ends (at least those who played first game), unless they will allow for non-canon route. Only exception perhaps are fates of characters that weren't introduced in first game.
3)Voice acting is different, at least for David and Chloe. It feels awkward to hear different voices to the same characters.

Not to an extent of Rachel and Chloe, you can even take most characters from the game and compare.
1) The oldest trick in the book: earn your unpopular character some points from the fans by introducing an even bigger cunt than her.
2) Am I the only one who thinks that Victoria or Nathan would have made a much better protagonist for a prequel? That way at least we wouldn't know from the get-go where the story is leading to and we would actually maybe learn what caused them to become so hostile to the outside world. I guess you could say that we do the same in regard to Chloe but come on, where exactly does she divert from the way she was portrayed in the original? It's exactly the same character through and through.
3) While the girl who did Chloe was fine as far as acting alone goes in my book, the guy playing David obviously didn't try. Although Principal Wells gave probably the most wooden performance of them all.
Prety much all voices were replaced, I was impressed by how I didn't notice. Chloe's voice grew on me, it's pretty good, even if it can't replace the original. This story takes place years before Rachel's death, we know she'll die, but that is not happening in this game.
Overall I can't judge the game on one episode, I do think episode 1 of BTS was better than episode 1 of LiS.
You should know the game wasnt made by the original creators..of course they were involved. Plus majority actors except the VA of frank were not able to participate on the game. If you know these things, you will already know that the game wont be as good as the first game..
Biggest gripe with the game right now is the new voice actors, it's just hard to love the characters when the person behind them is totally new and isn't giving the same feel to the character that the previous actor was. Chloe and Rachel sound practically the same, and also no one can replace Ashly Burch. However, the new voice actors aren't bad by any means, I just wish they were able to get back the originals.

A lot of people complained about the voice actor from seeing the demo, but personally I think it's fine. Honestly you get used to it very very quickly ( at least I did ) and maybe that's why she kind of sounds similar to og Chloe's voice.

But I wonder why it is Just "that". If it were Max's photo, we can use that as a checkpoint or something like that. And Chloe's grafitti doesn't mean or affect anything.

if anyone's still debating purchasing this, DO IT. Episode II was fantastic and given how the story is ramping up the tension, Episode III promises to be quite the kicker finale.

You said there isn't a sci fi aspect to this one, but I'd argue that. I think it just hasn't come to light yet. I mean, Rachel and the raven? And her screaming at the end? There's something extraordinary about that. Idk if it was just color, or if it's sci fi, we'll have to wait and see. BUT if it is sci fi, Chloe must not catch on about it because she woulda brought it up in the first life is strange when max reveals her powers. If Chloe's seen something like that before I mean. But Rachel is special for sure, we just gotta wait and see how. But something is unusual with her.

Well. There is a sci-fi element that has to do with Rachel, Developers confirmed that a while ago, but it isn't the same as maxes.
It doesn't seem to have been really revealed yet but the way the wind blows when rachel scream might have something to do with it.

I think it's worth a buy if you like the first game. So far after just playing the first episode I didn't think it was as aesthetically pleasing, but there is still some good plot material there to work with.
I preordered the bonus edition, ive already had two play throughs today taking different options, im into choice based games though, I have to say the choices don't always lead to different dialogue. Loved fucking with Victoria though, she's such a carbon nitrogen uranium tin. Lol

if you do buy the deluxe edition you get one more Episode and i think its 24 dollars for that and you get in game items as well in the game. the game so far is really worth the buy.
To everyone asking why people liked this game: a large reason why (for my friends at least) is because this is a character-heavy game where the majority of the cast are girls. There really aren't many games like this.

I would say the writing is TOO accurate. Be around a group of teenage American girls, and you'll see what I mean. Realism does not necessarily equate to good.

I am really surpised taht even without the main driving factor of the original, which was the time rewind, It's so so good! I want to talk to every NPC and explore rather than just going for the objective. I am a huge fan of the original, loved the time rewind and though cherished the relationship between Max and Chloe, wasn't a big fan of Chloe as an individual. She was way too cynical and even irritating at some points. So I was genuinely surprised how much I like playing as Chloe. The worst part about this game is waiting for episode 2
One of the things that pissed me off was the overuse of Raven symbolism and imagery. The game was beating you over the head with it and explaining it to you constantly as it went along and I just... it really pissed me off because it undermines my intelligence as a player. Yes, I see the imagery everywhere, Deck Nine, it's almost impossible to miss. Please stop forcing it down my throat everywhere! Gah...
Overuse? I only saw the Raven twice in the first episode...

I am in love with this game. I preordered the deluxe edition a month ago and I have NO problems with this one. The slightly different voice for Chloe was a little odd at first, but it goes away quickly. I played it and have to say, for any fans of Life Is Strange or it's style, this will not disappoint.

I liked Life Is Strange first time around and now we have Before The Storm, I'm "hella" into it, if you enjoyed the first life is strange, you'll like this one, if you like games where your choice "matters" then you'll more than likely enjoy this game.
It kinda has the Telltale Game vibe to it with how it looks, the art I find is really nice, not massively detailed like you'd find in open world games but it'll have detail in the smallest of places that make it great, like being able to see words on plaques and stuff even without clicking on them.
So far I'm enjoying this game and can't wait for the second part to come out.

For me I downloaded and played the original game and then bought the disc. Now I'm gonna do the same thing for this game. It's too good of a game to not buy on release but then again I always buy disc releases
the one big flaw to Life Is Strange was the cringy dialogue (leading to the Life is Tumblr nickname) but honestly I don't think that takes away from how good the game was too much. The only thing that takes away from the game is the ending/endings. So if the only complaint about the prequel is the cringy dialogue, then sounds good to me

I think the addition of the new talk back mechanic is really important and fun. It makes it different enough from the first game, gives Chloe some more character and freshens up the potentially dull gameplay. Imagine if all you could do was make decisions in this game. It would've been so much more dull and a lot less unique then the first game
