I just stumbled onto your channel out of curiosity and I must say the information you present is easy to understand and fascinating. I don't know anything about opals really. I use polymer clay to make jewelry and imitation opal is one of the effects we like to try to achieve. So I really appreciate you sharing your cutting process and discussing the factors that contribute to the value of a stone. I think any true jewelry aficionado inherently loves gemstones and you are providing an opportunity to learn about one of the most unique ones in an a manner that is both enjoyable and scholarly. BTW, your close-ups are fabulous.

I don't know how I ended up on the opal algorithm. As a jewelry store findings seller specializing in vintage pieces I am in awe. What I've seen here in your work, jealous of what could have been when my father used to polish Stones I still have the ones he did that I could Salvage our from multiple moves as he was a geologist but honestly loved the stones themselves and look forward to take what I'm watching and turn it into part of my business and teach others how to do this.
I already have most of the equipment. I've taken courses & worked within GMA standards to help people understand what they're doing when they want to build their own jewelry invest in pieces and make jewelry to sell. I am an Antiques and personal property appraiser, certified graduate from college for it and out of everything I've seen on the internet studied Etc your videos are the best I've ever seen. Your way of instruction is relaxing, eye catching and jaw-dropping most the time even when it's something so simple it's just a simple 2-carat nothing 2 blowing my mind with the Eternal Flame opal teaser video. Glad RUclips thought I needed to see your videos. LOL

I just cut a nobbie today myself.. i wish i had seen this video three hours earlier. I took the white cap off and had a bright red flash with orange and a tad of green. I got greedy and tried to get the most out of the stone. I tried to beat a sand spot on the on the face. I lost almost all the red. It was a directional stone so not a big loss. Truth is i was board n never knew the was colour until i ground off the sides. There is so much to learn cutting hey.. i can only imagine some of the mistakes you have made in the past.. and your totally right if it has a white cap with no colour. It could truley be a gem

New here, Black Opals are one of my faves - especially one with this color combo! All I could think of, before you finished it up was, "How would it look, with the crown faceted on my Lap?" I've an 8" Lee faceting machine, and grew up cutting everything, except for Diamonds. I loved re-cutting stones for extra bucks as a teen. Between my mom, stepdad and I, Opals were our favorite to cut! We didn't know they were supposed to be, "difficult." Well, we didn't find them so, just applied physics, to care for them properly. Now, years later, after watching your tender loving care here, I've got Black Opals shining in my eyes, itching to try my hand again at cutting an old friend, in new ways. I find making jewelry soothing. Lovely addition to creating graphic novels!

Red is a good color on you. The opal is stunning! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE opal. It is like God grabbed a rainbow, made a bolt out of it, then threw it into a rock. Each is unique and gorgeous. My only regret is the fragility of the stone. I bought an opal pendant with loads of orange, blue, and green color. Took me 6 months to pay it off. I wore it twice, put it on my bedside table next to my glasses, so I could take a shower. After my shower I reentered my bedroom to get dressed and heard a crunch. My 2-year-old nephew had entered my bedroom, picked up the opal, and dropped it on the floor. Being a toddler he left it there, where my foot found it. I cried for days over that gorgeous stone.

I've been watching your stuff for about a day and already my favorites are when you start with rough opal. You never know what will happen.
