Check out Highlights from Explorer Academy ETC I-23. A week-long academy where Explorers experience a small sample of what CHP Cadets must endure on their journey to become Officers of the California Highway Patrol. This academy marks a special year since it was the first Explorer Academy since 2019.
The CHP Explorer Program is designed for youth 15 to 20 years of age, allowing them to develop the skills and knowledge needed to serve the people of California through discipline and a commitment to serving their community.

I was a police explorer when I was in my teens for the Coral Springs Police Dept. I did it for like 3 years. It was fun...exposes you to law enforcement and prepares you. You learn signal codes...police procedures...get to direct traffic....work with cops...ride alongs..learn report writing...learn how to use firearms. Community service and crime prevention etc.

Do they get to skip part of the academy?

They do a very concentrated academy experience. To participate in the full 26-week academy they have to apply for officer once they reach age 20.

These are explorers who participate in a week long academy to get a taste of whag actualt CHP cadets do, the Academy holds multuple training classes for exolorers every summer

19 and 1/2 years old to do this part of the explorer academy. 20 to apply, and you must be 21 by your academy graduation date.
