      FYI there's a HUGE difference between autopsy and cadaver dissection. Autopsy is done by medical examiners (MEs) to examine a FRESHLY DEAD (or sometimes not so fresh) body. The cadavers you see in an anatomy lab (i.e. these videos) have been embalmed (like a body prepared for a standard funeral (some religions don't embalm)). This means that the body has been flushed of blood & gastric fluids and then "fixed" with formaldehyde - thats why the organs look beige n relatively dry, also why there's no blood or fluid in the organs. So in an anatomy lab the body will literally be juicy with formaldehyde n will reek of it. In a morgue the bodies will have all their blood n fluids in them and will smell like death, blood, poop etc.

    • @LadyLash22
      @LadyLash22 10 месяцев назад +6

      @Glitter_H_Hoof did you know that formaldehyde (the stuff used to embalm these bodies) is actually an appetite stimulant?? So some ppl actually get hungry during anatomy lab!
      Most bodies being forensically examined are NOT embalmed tho so they do not look like this or reek of formaldehyde

    In the 5th grade my school took us on a field trip to a medical university in Nashville TN. There I saw a cadaver, a preserved human brain, (among other things) and the liver of an alcoholic… when I handled the Liver I thought it was fake. i thought they were using a stone to simulate what alcohol does to the liver, but it was a real liver destroyed by alcohol. The whole experience made an indelible impression on me… in my 6o years I’ve never tasted, nor had the desire to try alcohol in any form… Im grateful I had that experience at such a young age.

      @@urphakeandgey6308 it's got unexpected health benefits too, studies show that by having it I'll statistically live longer than people without it as it seems to have antioxidant properties and reduces the risk of heart disease and certain cancer's.
      The downside- certain chemotherapies can't be used, I can't donate blood, being a liver donor is out of the question and paracetamol can create liver toxicity and that's deadly, but apart from that I can't complain as the benefits are great 😁

    Yep, when I was am alcoholic, I had a peptic ulcer in the small intestine erupt. I had hours of non-stop vomiting rich red coloured blood, and nearly bled to death from it. I don't want to experience something like that ever again. The hospital said there wasn't much they could do, it will either stop on its own or it will kill you today. Not the greatest news you want to hear as a 24 year old. I've been clean now sober from alcohol and cigarettes for around 13 years now. And though I now have IBS, GORD and a Fatty liver disease, I appreciate life and take care of myself.

      Small amounts won’t hurt a healthy stomach since It is lined with mucus that is secreted to protect the stomach lining from much harsher things like stomach acid… But when taken with things like ibuprofen, that actually decrease the amount of mucus secreted, the alcohol can damage the stomach and cause irritation… Especially if there is prior damage from something like an ulcer

The first time I saw them I was a little weak in the knees but talking to them helped honestly lol. Also for anyone wondering, the worst part in my opinion isn’t even the actual body, it’s the wrappings. I forgot what it’s called but it’s a special tan cloth and white liquid used to preserve them after dissection. Not to be disrespectful but it looks just like some horror movie stuff when it’s just a body with a face wrapped up while we aren’t learning about anything in the head.

    I have a question! Do you happen to have a gastric sleeve or bypass stomach? I am curious about how/why alcohol's absorption is quicker or more potent in a smaller stomach size!
    I ask this because I'm a gastric sleeve patient myself and alcohol effects me completely differently now. It hits me way harder, way faster. I know the size is a factor, but why else?

    • @paulgallagher5771
      @paulgallagher5771 10 месяцев назад +3

      With a smaller stomach, gastric emptying time is faster. Therefore the contents of your stomach is emptied into your duodenum, where it is absorbed more quickly than it would be if it stayed in the stomach. Make sense?
      I am a pathologist btw.

    Alcohol is a solvent. It dissolves proteins and fats. In other words alcohol may get used up in the process of dealing with protein and fats. Either way alcohol helps to make fats n proteins more and more bioaviable to you. The key is to find the right balance in the amount of alcohol consumed so that the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
