    This video helped me. Thank you. That pin made all the difference. I don't know where it went to. Maybe it wasn't there. I bought the lawnmower brand new. The mower was always hard to start. That is when I had a lawn service do the lawn and I put the mower in storage. I measured a 1.7 MM number 10 copper wire and used that for the pin. A lot of other things might make a good substitute. That little pin is important. The mower was starting up a little then stop. The mower started in one pull after I inserted the #10 copper wire.

    B&S engines with these carburetors were produced from 1968-1991 and encompassed the following model series:

    The proper installation requires preloading the diaphragm before tightening the carburetor screws.
    You need to open the choke plate past center with the rod connected then tighten the carburetor screws.If you are unclear you can find this procedure in your Briggs and Stratton service manual

      Dennis - you are 100% correct. The spring has to be preloaded before tightening the screws. Also not mentioned in the video - the pin in the middle should have a Teflon washer on it. That is for the repair kit when the tank is warped. It stops gas to pass into the spring chamber. That should not contain any gas for the choke to function properly.

    I saw another video in which the low spring was on opposite side of the diaphragm, i.e., on the tank side. In this video it is on the carburetor side. Is there some rule relating to this?

    the engine your repairing is not a metric engine, it's imperial (SAE, AF). 7/16 and 1/2 sockets should be used here not 11mm and 13mm. also, you should install all the carb to tank bolts loosely first then tighten down in a criss-cross sequence. if you tighten down one first you can catch the new diaphragm on the threads and pull it to one side.

      I'm not "pissing on them" brendan....i've been repairing these engines as my trade for over 30 years, so yeah i KNOW what i'm talking about.....and it's these "go-getters" as you put it that keep me in a job.....i was actually trying to pass on some relevant information....but, as always, there just has to be some tosser like yourself who thinks they know everything about anything

      Hi, i agree with Maverick. This only and strictly the method written to the paper delivered with the diaphragm. I'm french and have read and not well understood the paper due to technical vocabularyand had a not satifying result. My engine est in metric not imperial. It's necessary to approach the diagram first puting screws trought the top and pass the diaphragm holes to center itart to screw with hands, test the choke valve moving smoothly before to finish to screw the carburetor.
      Good video. No problem about it, but these steps are very important to prevent a new dismounting if not respected....It's the reason why i'm watching this video again.... TO HELP OTHER GUYS not for polemics ! See you.
