  • Fun day fishing for my dads birthday aboard the Speed Twin out of Channel Islands Sportfishing!
    Headed down the coast looking for bass and surface fish, and had steady pickings on sand bass with a few calico bass mixed in.
    As soon as I saw some barracuda activity, I quickly grabbed my surface iron rod and grinned with the jig!
    Tough work trying to get them to commit, but was happy to hook one.

    Slow day?!?! You've caught more fish on this one trip than I've caught out of Newport Landing over the last two years! 😂

      The last hour was most of the fish, it was slow for most of the day.
      Always just gotta try hard to figure out the bite. Figure out what the fish Wang and stick to it

    Dear Mr, nice, video. Can you cast with a lever drag reel?Or do you only use it for jig? I buy recently a Penn Fathon 40 lever Drag, but not use yeat. Next year i return to Panamá and i will fishing tuna, i intend to catch a big tuna using the Penn, nowadays i fishing with jig in oil boat in Rio de Janeiro, i using Shimano saragossa and BGMQ 20K And Penn Slammer 7500 to cast popper, and jigging i large dept more than 120 yds a Tanacon 750. Last time i catch a tuna 40 kg almost 90 pouns with knife jig 300 grams at night.

      Casting lever drags is a little more difficult, but can be done. Just takes a lot of practice and a really trained thumb

    I'd try a sinker slider rig heavier version of a carolina rig instead of a reverse dropper. Noticed I get better hook sets with the sliding line. More or less a stationary fly line

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  Год назад

      1/4 oz slider was doing okay for the fly lined baits. Think my dad tried a 2oz slider at one point, but didn’t get bit till fishing the reverse dropper loop

    Are you still using your tranx 500 or had you switched to the Trinidad? If so may I ask why?

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  9 месяцев назад

      I stopped using my tranx 500, just because I wasn’t getting a whole lot of use out of it.
      It was really nice for casting lighter lures for tuna, but I only do that so many times a year.
      I cast surface irons more that I do light poppers and small snipers, so it just made more sense for me to cut it from my arsenal.
      Traded it for a Trinidad 16a, because it holds the same line capacity

    how do you like the 16a for surface iron over the 20a? I recently sold my 20a and got a 16a. I feel like the 16a more pleasant to fish with haven't tried it out yet though. Lmk thanks!

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  Год назад +1

      I personally really like the 16a for how much more narrow it is. I’m guilty of not stacking my line properly if I get follows lol. I’ll stop paying attention when I get excited, so not having to look down as much is what I like about it.

      @@seansimmons7683 TW stands for T-Wing, which is a type of line guide/level wind.
      Allows the line to come off the spool more freely. As for distance wise, I’m not super sure you get much more distance out of it than the normal Lexa.
