i wrote a point for 2018 paper 2: (thank you mr everything) The writer describes the sea as a powerful and scary being. This becomes apparent to the reader when the wave is described as a ‘fierce breaker’. The use of the personification here depicts the wave as real and able to cause harm towards the surfers, especially by the description of the breaker ‘towering behind them’ - causing the surfers to look minimal and tiny compared to the huge gargantuan sea. Furthermore, the use of the adjective ‘fierce’ connotes a daunting aspect of the sea that can generate human feelings of anger and range - accentuating the sea as dangerous and the surfers as vulnerable. On the other hand, the writer describes the surfers as able to escape despite the imminent danger. This can be seen when the surfers’ heads were ‘bobbling about like corks in smooth water’. The use of the simile hear by the writer portrays the inevitable ability for the surfers to not become overwhelmed by the magnitude of the sea and how this can be seen as common practice. The idea of this ordinary behaviour becomes apparent by the use of the verb ‘bobbing’. This colloquial term, while decreasing tension for the reader, inserts a sense of normality and serenity; further developed by the use of the noun ‘corks’ implies drinking in an average day out with some friends - contrasting to the supposed threat of the sea. In addition, the writer labels the surfers with a sense of honour and great. This is first suggested by describing them as riding ‘majestically’ and ‘uttering exultant cries.’ The use of the adjectives ‘majestically’ and ‘exultant’ use loud and strong vocabulary to exemplify feelings of power and freedom over the seas - almost to say the powerful sea can never diminish them.

Even If you did bad on one if you ace this paper and get 50 marks ontop of what you got for paper one let me make an example. If you flopped paper 1 and only got 25/80 marks a grade 4 with both papers is around 70 marks. If you ace this paper 2 and get 50 marks you have a grade 4. You got this!
structure for repetition = cyclical structure repetition for language = it just comes up once or like an anaphora which is still an english language device / technique
@@maryomaarts495 idk the structure I think I kinda just freestyled it. But it is like “one way the writer uses language to describe ________ is by using hyperbole” (for example). Then I listed a quotation and described how the writer is exaggerating his point (that was for the first paragraph. For the second paragraph, I listed the technique, referred to the quote, and described what the writer was trying to describe. For my third paragraph, it made my point, listed my quote, and linked it to imagery. For my fourth paragraph I also linked it to imagery, listed the technique, listed my quote, and explained the effect on the reader. - sorry for the long message.
My personal and my friends response from whom so many times run out of time just because they started with q5 is to fo everything in order do not start with q5 better not so many people follow this advice just run out of time for other questions
@@ettixy but the point is that you can do the heavy hitting questions first as they are more marks. its more preferred to miss time for other questions than questions 4 and 5
for example if it was a similie of 'the man was growling like a bear',for the effect you can say the fact that the man is compared to a bear shows that the man is agressive or is animal like. for a word,using the same simile,you can say the agressive verb 'growling' makes the reader feel uneasy of makes the reader look at the man like an animal or something like that.

I tend to ZOOM into specific details of a quote or alternatively use this quote to fit into some sort of a THEME in the text for me to extrapolate from. So PEA is gud but it’s better to do a little bit more than average And this is from someone who averages 8’s and 9’s in English Language. But overall I’m confident that you will do well bro dw 🫡
