ABRSM 2021-2022 Grade 6, C:3. Lavender Field ~ Karen Tanaka. Piano exam piece
The Japanese composer Karen Tanaka studied composition and piano at the Toho Gakuen school of Music in Tokyo, Japan. In 1986 she moved to Paris, France, where she worked at IRCAM, the research institute run by Pierre Boulez. Later (1990-91) she studied with Luciano Berio in Florence, Italy. She has taught in several American universities, and now lives in Los Angeles, teaching composition at the Californian Institute of the Arts.
Tanaka's love of nature and concern for the environment are reflected in many of her compositions. 'Lavender Field' was written in Paris on 5 Febuary 2000 for inclusion in spectrum 3, an international collection of 25 pieces for solo piano, published by ABRSM. The composer has written. 'Imagine weaving colour and scent with sounds. The harmonic series on Eb appears and disappears into space at the end.'

Most beautiful grade piece i have heard. Definately playing this one for my exam
It’s a lovely piece and I’m glad this video helped you to choose it for your piano exam. If you like this type of music we have a playlist on this channel called NEW AGE which has some lovely piano music. One piece is called ‘Behind The Waterfall’ by David Lanz which I think you will like - maybe check it out if you have time. Good luck with the rest of your exam preparations!
I've just passed my grade 5 at the age of 50.....and am going to learn this for my grade 6

Thanks! I’m glad this is helping you learn your piece, good luck! 😁👍
@@masterkeyz959 thanks!
Have grade 6 pieces always been this easy? I swear grade 5 pieces were harder than this. I haven't done a piano exam since I was like 10 so I don't really know.
I agree with you... the current ABRSM exam pieces are generally much easier to play than in previous years. I played grade 4 pieces years ago which were more difficult than some of the current Grade 6 pieces.
C pieces are always the easier ones. This is the easiest out of whole syllabus.
@@nilesc9184 the other ones aren't much harder
For my grade 8 I had to an entire Beethoven sonata, Bach prelude and fugue and a Chopin Nocturne. No way would you have to do so much these days. Well, you might get away with doing 1 movement of a Beethoven Sonata. :-)
Wow your really good at this.
So nice
Beautiful playing, honestly ^^
Have you considered checking out embers? :O

is this one hard to learn? Im debating between what song to play and i really like this one but it seems hard.
the notes are VERY simple for grade 6 imo but the dynamics (hope thats the right word) are a bit complicated
I have just started learning this and I find it hard because of the dynamics but then I am a beginner who enjoys a challenge, don't debate with yourself, start slowly and love every note, it's a beautiful piece.😊
For me it’s the rhythm the dynamics aren’t that hard but yeah the notes are very simple
Hi, can you tell me that if you have use the pedal?
Yes. Quite a lot actually
This song has a beautiful melody, my uncle’s getting married soon so I’ll be playing this for his wedding :)
the instrumental keys from Still D.R.E brought me here
Reminds me of Radiohead's Daydreaming!

The E-flat is one octave higher
so?
@@miracleplayz_yt4202 Look at the sheet music, it says 8va
That means an octave lower
I realized that like 5 months ago
i thought this would be much worst ended my best
You need to put in the correct expression and slow it down.
