I tried this just now and it turned out very strong color contrast. I learned a lot from this video: how to draw without pencil draft, how to draw houses, how to draw windows and doors, and shadowing. It's great.
Hi Peter All my life, I have never attempted to draw anything much because I was pretty useless at drawing “stick men”, so certainly didn’t venture beyond that. After watching your inspiring and beautiful sketches, I thought maybe, now in my seventies, I should have a go. To my amazement, after several attempts at copying your work, it started to come together, and I’m thrilled as to how they turned out. I wanted to say thank you for sharing your talent and for giving me something new in my life. My family are saying “I thought you said you couldn’t draw!!”, so it shows you are never too old to learn something new. Thank you again.
Wonderful! I love that you don't attempt long straight lines, rather you create your lines with short, broken movements. Much more achievable when hands are a bit unsteady, like mine. Mind you, those power lines took some bravery. You should consider publishing an adult colouring book of your line drawings. Thank you for a well produced and enjoyable video.
hehe... I've actually learnt to draw my straight lines more like Peter does these days... besides I think it gives them more character. But yeah, I kinda messed it up when I came to the power lines too ;) But why I felt compelled to comment is that I was thinking the same thing about Peter publishing a colouring book of his drawings. I like to sketch, but I find it more satisfying colouring them in. (And it would be a change from all the mandala and floral colouring books out there! Would just need to be on watercolour paper). Peter this is so quirky, I love it. I am amazed at how different houses are across the pond. English houses look very different, similar in some ways, but different in building styles, windows,doors etc and roofs. Loved the way your colours brought everything together, I think I use too many colours, and the shadows made the buildings really pop. Hello Peter. My husband and I were on holiday in NL and while in St John's I fell in love with two things; the jellybean row houses and puffins. On our return to Alberta I wanted to paint both and managed to paint the puffin successfully (according to family and friends) but not with the houses until I came across this video. Thank you thank you for making this video. I now have my own watercolour painting of these houses and I am very happy with it. Love your style.

Honoured to get a reply, I have ordered a bottle from Japan and I think this will end my dilemma with the 2 Lamys..I paint very detailed and am trying to loosen up with your vision of line art simplicity. It is coming slowly as I photo all the old relic barns in the area for line and wash drawings over the winter. Love your style like most who compliment your work. Thanks again. Bob May
Thanks Bob. I love my Lamy pens. just wish they held more ink. Better yet, Lamy comes out with a permanent cartridge ink. Old relic barns are perfect for line and wash.

Note to Peter S and Pat Nap...thanks for your ink input. My Platinum Carbon Black ink arrived from Japan and it is better than great...well worth the money and fairly short wait time. It is all the things I was looking for and more, very smooth flowing as a bonus. The Amazon supplier even had the projected day of delivery from Japan exactly right...Wow. Still looking to exchange a Lamy Safari broad nib for a fine nib if anyone is willing.

Peter, thanks again for another wonderful teaching video. Following your steps I tried KOI mixing tray and yes - the size and 5-section layout are very convenient. It is also easy to work with your tutorials accepting the same pigment layout as yours. But if to use the palette "as is" then paint/mix is beading up and contracting on plastic surface. After I sanding it with very fine sandpaper it behaves well but it is pretty hard to clean the palette afterwards. Which of two evils do you prefer with this and other plastic palettes?

Hi Ted. I didn't have the problem of beading but I did end up with stained areas due to the earlier use of two sided tape holding down my paint tabs.
