Glorious collection of yummy stuff! I love the way you juxtapose, layer, and alternate things. I especially like seeing pages of different sizes next to each other, and to see them sewn in at different heights. So cool!
Awesome!! I love seeing all that yumminess turned into something useful! What is it they say, "one person's junk is somebody else's journal?" No, wait, that's trash/treasure. Still works! LOL 😉
I really like this idea. TFS!! I have so much ephemera, but I lack the confidence in putting together those creative vignettes. I even started a glue book and it's still waiting to be filled. Maybe one day soon. Thanks again for your inspiration! 🌺 Elizabeth W.
Never Hopeless Don't worry about the vignettes yet...just start gluing stuff down. It will be random and make no sense at all but that's okay because you're not making to impress anyone...it's just for you. Eventually you'll get more comfortable with the whole process and then being more intentional will come easier. Trust me. Just do it :)
ty for sharing .. it was so much fun to watch .. love all the tabs ...love that u couldn't help but laugh ... and ur response to comment.. sometimes things make u laugh or smile and u share.. well made me smile
Shannon m'dear you completely crack me up!!! The whole motorcycle/dress/socks part actually made me snort I was laughing so much!!! And hubs agrees - he said he wouldn't wear socks in sandals himself either!!! I absolutely love the journal and how your pages came together is just brilliant!!! Thank you so much for all the videos you post!!!
You're funny as hell. I so enjoy watching you. Skilled, grounded, creative, clever ad witty. When I need a break from reality I like to see what you're doing. Thanks Shannon.
This is seriously so cool! I love your junk journal, it has soul! I was collecting junk like a crazy person once, with the intention of making a junk journal, but when I looked at all my bits and pieces of things it all just looked like, well...junk, you know. Not fun to me at all. This is a great way to use up and recycle and also add bits and pieces of really fun stuff. Also I really like that you used your old book covers, that's the way to go. And you will have this for awhile to enjoy and appreciate your friends gifts. =)
This journal reminds me of what Laurie Richardson Haley does with her Happy Mail. I always think about how valuable these books will be in the future. Imagine how fun it would be to look through something like this made in the 20s, 30s, 40s, etc. I hope our future people are aware of the value of these books.
Cathy Rose Creations Yes! She was my inspiration for this idea. I doubt I'll be able to do it as well or as thoroughly as she does but it's an inspired idea! You are so right. I really do love coming across a vintage diary or scrapbook in the thrift stores so I hope when some future person buys one of my journals in their Goodwill they will enjoy looking at all the "vintage" weirdness inside!
Shannon Green I have my grandmother's scrapbook from the 30's to 40's, where they went under one of President Roosevelt's New Deal Plans. He formed several "colonies" here in the states. She and my grandfather were selected to go to Dyess Colony (where I grew up). She recorded all of it in her scrapbook. I'm so lucky to have it. I will probably donate it to the museum there (under duress from family pressure). 😊 sorry I rambled on....
I love the way your journals F L O W Shannon, your work is so inspirational, I am decluttering ready to go into a much smaller Flat (Sheltered Housing) as my health is not good. But I see all your inserts, pages , pockets etc etc etc and I LOVE every bit, it is SO hard to let anything go! Hugs June x
I'm so sorry to hear that your health isn't good June. I hope it doesn't prevent you from doing some of the things you love, and doing them with less isn't a bad thing since it forces you to be even more creative with what you have!
I love the kind of Junk Journals. I've actually made a few for my own person use. Buy I think it's time to make one to video! Thanks for sharing and reminding me how much I like them. ❤😙
Shannon...I wear socks with some of my sandals, only the kinda birkenstock-esk sandals....but then I DO live in the Pacific Northwest..... I wouldn't wear socks with dress sandals, even we don't do THAT, but out in the sticks where I live, your feet won't like you much if you don't wear some kinda socks,. I really don't wear sandals that much, for the same reason....lol This journal is STUNNING btw... she really sent you a treasure trove of stuff.
I have the giggles so bad from hearing about your neighbor...such a great visual! :) What is it that's so fascinating about paper bits??? I just love it!
You're not a horrible person, I split my sides with you! My husband has a motor cycle and I drew a mental picture of him in a tunic and sandals with socks....revving his motor cycle in the street... I lost it! =D Then I drew a mental picture of him in that same tunic with the same socked sandals climbing into his plane... I wet my pants ! =D Janet
Thank you Shannon!! I have been teetering on the edge of wanting to make a junk journal but when I watch YT most of the videos show beautiful co-ordinated journals and the only "junk" is the odd envelope sewn in. My vision was much more collage based and using junk! Love what you have created here and my other question would have been what do you do with them when finished but you answered that already, using it to create collage pieces and mini works of art. Love it, hugz, Anne
Love this book. Great ideas. By the way, here in Canada guess what, they do wear sandals with socks, not with a dress mind you, but with shorts. It's actually quite common.
+Suzanne O'Mulllan I can't reply to your RUclips comments but if you'd like to fix that here's how: In the top right hand corner of any RUclips page you will see a bell shaped icon. That's where your Google+notifications show up. If you click on the bell you'll see a gear icon at the top left. Click on that gear icon and it will show you your notification settings. The word "Settings" will be highlighted in blue...click on it. Your Google+ settings will open in a new tab. The first 2 options are settings for who can interact with you and your posts. Set both of those options to "Anyone". That will insure that any time you comment on a RUclips video, your comment can be responded to.
I love your junk journals I have yet to make one as I just don't know what I would do with it after it was made... Do you have any videos of working in them OR finished flips of junk journals you have used?
Love your awesome book. But, but, but HOW are these bound together??? Not a sewer nor much of a crafter yet and don't have a foundational understanding of how one would attach these things together. Do you have any reference links? Thanks!
+Debby Conway It's much easier than you might think. I'll include a link to my playlist which shows several different binding techniques or you can do a Google or RUclips search for ideas. A good binding to start with is the pamphlet stitch...search for that one. Here's the playlist and good luck! ruclips.net/p/PLEBktQ6jtRklpqnchhlvRX9J0kc11FPPY
thanks to my friend Becky for getting me into this junk journal craz. I am new to this and need to know where one gets the kits I hear of .and this happy mail .can anyone help me ?
I like the journal; great idea to use the bits and pieces. I could have done without all the giggling about the neighbor's different clothing. Why do we, as Americans, think that our way is the only way to live? The comments overshadowed the really neat journal.
+srt827 I have no idea why you would think that way or why you would think that my giggling had anything to do with my neighbor's nationality. Any man any nationality wearing a garment that looks like a dress while tinkering on his motorcycle is going to make me laugh. I find humor in that juxtaposition. Wearing socks with sandals is practically a way of life in the Pacific Northwest and I'm pretty sure they are mostly American up there. Here in the South is just isn't done because it makes no sense...it's much too hot to wear socks with sandals so I'm going to giggle when I see it, whether it's on a American or not.
Sorry, born and bread in the Good Ole South of Mason Dixie Line and I've seen thousands of Americans wearing socks and sandals all my life. No excuse for racism and bigotry, you're much better at making journals, stick with that.
Halie Hostler G'day, yep, I find this as well, for me I've always thought JJ's are made from recycled things, but a lot of vids I've watched so far alot are made from store products. That's why I love I've found people like Shannon, and a few others, who show us what they do with actual recycled things :)
Shannon, I love your journal and enjoy watching your videos. I didn't enjoy, however, your making fun of someone from another culture and their dress/style. I found that offensive. Sorry.
Jan Jackson I'm so sorry to have offended you. It's unusual for me to see a man in a dress and I do find it funny to see a man in a dress tinkering with a motorcycle....regardless of what culture he is from. It's an ironic juxtaposition. As are socks with sandals. :) But you're right, it could be offensive and I should keep those observations to myself. I hope you will accept my apology and my efforts to not repeat that mistake.
Shannon Green Thank you, Shannon, for your reply. Living in Southern California, we see just about anything :-). Perhaps I'm overly sensitive to the fact that viewers of these creative videos come from around the globe. Again, thank you for your reply. And I will continue to enjoy your videos that are continually inspiring and packed with ideas.
Whatever justifies it for you lady, but you may want to just pray for your own intolerance, narrow mindedness and judge mental views. Next time keep them to yourself. See the wider view, maybe? Look at all that shannon gives to the art coommunity. She of all people does not deserve criticism especially not from the likes of you.
Rachel Lyons hey there, I'm actually calling attention to micro aggression, what you are doing is intentionally misusing language to label me and discredit me. Also, I realize you don't give af and that you're really invested in your right to laugh at a man in a dress.
Glorious collection of yummy stuff! I love the way you juxtapose, layer, and alternate things. I especially like seeing pages of different sizes next to each other, and to see them sewn in at different heights. So cool!
Juxtapose is one of my favorite words. It just makes my tongue happy to say it!
Love the way you make these jj's. And it is a lot of fun to listen you comments. Thanks for doing these videos.
Awesome!! I love seeing all that yumminess turned into something useful! What is it they say, "one person's junk is somebody else's journal?" No, wait, that's trash/treasure. Still works! LOL 😉
Cat Hand Works perfectly!
You are awesome! Mrs cat hand
+Laura Orta Thank you, Laura! So are you! 😊
Cool ! This is one generous lady and you have made a splendid journal, with it all ! I like those postcards in a strip. - the cover of the book!!!!!

+Linda DeChow This ended up being one of my favorite junk journals!
What an awesome book. I love your laugh, it reminds me of my now deceased dear friend Jo's laugh. Your extra commentary is hilarious!
This journal reminds me of what Laurie Richardson Haley does with her Happy Mail. I always think about how valuable these books will be in the future. +Lori (Just A Girl From The Bay) Thank you Lori!
Djellaba :) or a kaftan. One has a hood, and the other hoodless. Loved travelling around in Morocco :)
Leigh McDonald Ahhhh. The ones he wears are hoodless. And they look quite comfortable!
I am laughing right along with you [on the sandals/socks/motorcycle thing].
I love the kind of Junk Journals. I've actually made a few for my own person use. Buy I think it's time to make one to video! Thanks for sharing and reminding me how much I like them. ❤😙
Just go for it!!
Guess what i'm watching again lol - your Scrap Art Junk Journal - after all of these years!!!!
An oldie but goodie!

Pacific Northwesterners are exempt from the socks with sandals horror...I expect y'all to go there. ;)
I love this!!! I want it!! You are one lucky lady!!
I have the giggles so bad from hearing about your neighbor...such a great visual! :)
What is it that's so fascinating about paper bits??? I just love it!
Lori H I don't know but paper bits are the BEST.
Apparenty it is my first comment since I am using YT. But I have to say it. Shannon, you give me so much inspiration! Thank you :)
+Magdonnudle You're welcome, thank you for watching!

Debbie Smetherham LOL Clearly I was pretty entertained myself!
Awesome idea.

hey there shannon...i have a question...please...i sent it to your facebook

Almost never, I really enjoy revisiting them.

Angie LupusLife Thank you!

thanks to my friend Becky for getting me into this junk journal craz. I am new to this and need to know where one gets the kits I hear of .and this happy mail .can anyone help me ?
Facebook groups are a good source of information...just do a FB search for "junk journal".
I like, I like ,This is cool
Tiina Himmanen Thank you Tiina!

Did she say it was the only way to live? I missed that part can you post when that was?
This I like.
SockTrollQueen Thank you!
Your Welcome!
Perhaps it's anEphemera journal rather than a junk journal.
Leigh McDonald It's a little of both really. Whatever it's called, I love it!
I agree when people are making JUNK JOURNALS that are NOT junk journals....it annoys me!
Halie Hostler G'day, yep, I find this as well, for me I've always thought JJ's are made from recycled things, but a lot of vids I've watched so far alot are made from store products. That's why I love I've found people like Shannon, and a few others, who show us what they do with actual recycled things :)
Karla C Thanks Karla!
Halie Hostler "Junk" can be subjective. Just think to yourself...bless their hearts. :)
LOL Sorry i didn't mean it that way. They are really pretty and nice but they aren't made of JUNK lol
That's all I meant..they need a new name for them...like handmade embellished journals or something
Its hard to justify and defend "junk" because junk is junk and trash is trash...no matter how much you dress up a pig, its still a pig.
Yes it is, but I really do enjoy dressing up that pig and it looks so dang cute afterwards!
Shannon, I love your journal and enjoy watching your videos. I didn't enjoy, however, your making fun of someone from another culture and their dress/style. I found that offensive. Sorry.

Thank you so very much Jan!
Shannon Green well i was laughing along with you shannon, Not in a bad way coz people have there ways but it is funny sometimes x
Shannon Green you are beyond forgiving and gracious! Isn’t this YOUR yt channel after all?
A lot of inappropriate comments regarding neighbors. Too much talking.
+Lynne Martin A lot of judgement regarding what's inappropriate. Too much commenting.
It’s not ok to giggle about a man in a dress? Are you for real? Keep your judgements to yourself and get a sense of humor!
Lynne Martin .l, I
Thank you, I was surprised and disappointed in the hateful comments.
I thought it was funny 😂 Shannon you crack me up!!!
Wow, racist and bigoted, I feel bad for your neighbors. Praying for you!
Xtine X please save your self righteous prayers not what God intended
Rachel Lyons I prayed on your response and He made it clear that you need prayers, as well.
Thanks for watching. And judging. And praying.
