Had to think about a quote from the loading screen of a Total War game. From some general from ancient Rome probably: „An enemy who knows what you are capable of, is not beaten easily.“ I guess more often than not evaluating correctly is a game changer. A point from a German Wing Chun RUclipsr, who also puts focus on self defence, came to my mind too: if there is tension coming up, don’t tell the guy in front of you what your martial arts background is. He will possibly be able to evaluate what your most dangerous range is and what type of strategies and attacks he might need to expect…
Reminds me of my training partner. He was around 125 kg while I was around 80 kg. I could take him down with upper body clinch and trips. Never wanted him to sprawl on me. It doesn't feel good. Lol. Couldn't even breathe during BJJ rounds with him on top and his chest in contact with mine. Guy could literally lift me when I had him in a mounted crucifix. But used to be highly rewarding to roll with him.
Surprised you could take down a bigger guy with upper body, I find the upper body strength differential too high in upper body clinch vs big guys, feel like they can move me around and win the gripfights way easier. Only trips I can hit regularly on big guys are inside trip and sasae, find they usually dont move enough/too heavy to make light for stuff like de ashi. Also my low single isnt great but feel like its a trap against big guys, it seems like it will work if you catch the head on knee perfectly but in practice theres too much play, low doubles yes low singles no imo
this is great. i'm not a big guy but i've never shied away from a roll, no matter their size or skill, unless i knew from experience that the guy is dangerous. had to stop that now though coz i'm gettin old and a bit scared
There's something really messy about your video titles and thumbnails. I wanted to watch something from you but couldn't find anything that interested me. (Sure it could be a me problem but I just wanted to let you know as your viewership is down)
Yeah it’s totally down. I’ve been real busy with the gym, mma, Jiu-Jitsu and high school/youth wrestling. I haven’t been able to put in the time and focus into creating good content.
More great stuff in the new year.
Carlos an absolute unit
