I tried in vain to find a definition of what "woke" means, and so settled on the designation "aware". I avoid using the word "woke", because it is typically used in a judgmental way. Socrates had it right when he said, "The unexamined life is not worth living." Self-awareness and respect for others is what "woke" should mean.

this brings us to the base, the gender roles/societal expectation. the overarching and long running slow changing system of traditions and peer pressure that form what a person is expected to behave like.

No. What I do want to say is I loved politically incorrect because that show had a different flavor every night. It was also just a half hour. Now, this current show has been a cash cow and good for him I hope he retires, him and Woody. Because I am about the same age and I have just seen this guy go downhill and get pretty bitter. He thinks he wants to be the stand-up guy and he struggled because of COVID to get out and since then he's blames college campuses. The reasons they fall are varied, but you will generally see the culture degrade over time. Often it is "conservatives" trying to relive glory days that is a major reason.

I agree with some of his points. But it often feels like Bill Maher wants everyone to maintain the same 1990's sensibilities and attitudes. The world is changing due to globalization; increasingly diversified populations; more civili rights; education; easier access to information;. People are reacting to that - some kicking against (MAGA's), some leaning all the way in (the woke) There is a better way to handle that change without advocating for people's worldview to remain fixed and ideologically stagnant.
Great summary. I agree with a lot of what Maher has said about the phones and social interaction, but nevertheless, the right thing to do is always accept the inevitable progress, even if it makes us personally uncomfortable.
Being "woke" or awake has to deal with being in the present moment and seeing things for what they actually are and not what you would you like them to be. We have had too many clothing admirers for our naked emperors.

I understand your argument and respect it. I have paid off $57k in student loans, and with the remaining $4.5k I have left to pay off, it would be comforting to be done with it, and have an extra $390/month in our household. I pay my taxes.
Your argument, “if your ::such and such:: is worth you paying for it, then it’s certainly not worth me paying for it” makes sense, but this applies to so much more than student debt relief.
If the Supreme Court votes against debt relief, which sounds like it will, I hope there will be a reform in how much colleges and universities charge students for higher education. To me, it feels like the biggest problem is the yearly rising of tuition costs.
