    I remember having insomnia one night many years ago so I got up to watch TV and "It's A Gift" was on at like 3 in the morning... I laughed like hell!! It almost made it worth having the insomnia...This Comic Gem of a movie is 75 yrs old... A Masterpiece!

    It's a Gift is my fathers favorite movie and this is his favorite scene. Every Christmas I make sure to sign one of the tags on his presents "From Carl LaFong." He always gets a kick out of it!

    W.C. Fields in my opinion was one of, if not thee geatest comedians ever. The man was a comidic genius. I could watch his movies every day. I wish there was someone close to his skills as a comidian, this gentleman wrote almost all of his movies.

      Not to mention the gift of timing, too. This guy was brilliant when it came to focusing on a bit where he squeezed every conceivable thing he could find that had comedic potential on it. That's why a scene like this is so genius, its minutes long and every bit is hilarious, much less relatable in a way, too.

    That Carl LaFong scene is the funniest thing on film, to me! I LMAO every time I watch it! Just that spelling part. I'll be watching it on my phone with my headphones laughing like a mental patient, and my wife goes " what are you watching Carl LaFong again? " hahahaha!

      Fields had a penchant for funny names, and once in real life he went into a bank to open a new account and the manager told him that a "Mrs Clapsaddle" would take care of him, and Fields eyes got as big as dinner plates. Every time he want back to that bank, he would openly yell for Mrs. Clapsaddle because he loved her name so much.

    I was waiting for Baby Dunk to dangle the ice pick over him!
    I think It's A Gift and Man On A Flying Trapeze are masterpieces. Watched them a hundred times...so far. Fields is perfection! And in both movies Kathleen Howard is the exasperated/exasperating wife---also incomparable!

    You left out the best part when the shotgun goes off and the whole swing falls down. I laughed like crazy the first time I saw that as a kid. I also love the Carl LaFong bit. Capital L, small A, capital F, Small O, small N, small G. LOL

      @@joelwexler That was Baby LeRoy. My fave part is when the mom and daughter are screaming back and forth about syrup of squill or ipecac? And then "Where should I go?" names 2 stores..."I don't care..." Finally Fields says, "I'll tell you BOTH where to go!"
      Then Field's wife comes out and says, "Who is that woman I heard you talking to?" And Fields says, "It was just Mrs (So-and-So) from upstairs, to which his wife replies: "It seems to me you're getting AWE-fluly faMILiar with Mrs ______ upstairs."
