You couldn't miss him with that big nose and unique voice, making him a real standout in the early days of Hollywood comedy. His jokes were this clever mix of clever wordplay and goofy physical comedy, and he definitely made his mark in the entertainment world.

Fields was a genius and a groundbreaking performer. Although I have heard many of these stories before this is the first time I have seen photos of many of the people and places in his life. Thanks for posting this today.

Love WC! Back in the 60s and 70s, his films would be on LATE LATE night TV and my cousin and I had an agreement to call each other no matter the hour so neither of us would risk missing him. On rainy days at school, they'd show his films in the auditorium at lunch time. That's where I saw "The Dentist." Lily Tomlin is also a comedic genius and I never heard till now that she lived in his house. I love it! Thanks for this production - greatly enjoyed and appreciated. Imma see if I can find "The Bank Dick" to watch tonight. 🤣🙏🏻💚

I never thought Chaplin was funny. W C Fields used to have me in fits of laughter with his laid back style of delivery. So called comedians of today aren’t in the same league.

I agree about Charlie Chaplin. I first saw him in films in the late 1940's when I was in Grade School, and I thought he was tedious at best. His film 'The Great Dictator' was a fiasco, and his speaking voice was unpleasant. **And then there were the various people around him who said that he was not a nice person. That's not a great legacy.
However, most people from back then to the present times generally agree that WC Fields was a great comedian.

He once worked as a professional drowner in atlantic city. Several times a day he'd pretend to be drowning and be rescued by an accomplice. Hot dog vendors would sell to onlookers and pay Fields and accomplice part of the proceeds

even as a small child, I never thought Chaplin was funny. Much like Jerry Lewis, when I was a little kid, he never made me laugh ever, the same with Tim Allen, I did not know that he was even categorized as a comedian for years, Carol Burnett never made me laugh… Robin Williams, not even a smile out of me.. Bill Cosby never made me laugh, neither did George Carlin, just not funny
so, who do I find funny? Rodney, of course, Jonathan Winters, Steve Allen, Johnny Carson, J Leno, Jackie Mason had me laughing so hard a couple times that I couldn’t breathe… Jerry Seinfeld, but only when he did stand up.. Sam Kinison often had me laughing so hard it was tough to breathe.. Burt Reynolds was not a comedian, but he still was a delight to watch on Johnny Carson.. Henny Youngman was funny with his one lines, Gracho, but none of the other marks brothers I found it to be very funny. Especially Harpo. He was just silly like Jerry
      Lewis… Dean Martin was funny..
Of course WC Fields what is hilarious

Here is a fact. W.C Fields and the one comedy actor he never liked... Charlie Chalpman, both died on Christmas Day. W.C. in 1946 and Charlie in 1977.
I've always liked W.C Fields and Buster Keaton much more than others in early comedy movies.

WC never said I’d rather be in Philadelphia, quite the contrary.
it was rumored that he was going to have the words, “I’d rather be here than in Philadelphia” on his head stone, partly because of the cold reception he had with Philadelphia audiences in the beginning of his career..
