Amy, that’s why groceries should be split, in cost, 3 ways and everything becomes community property. When you use the last of something, write it on a whiteboard on the fridge immediately and compile a list over the week and then one person goes shopping, or make it a group event, and then split the bill 3 ways. Being a roommate to several different people over my adult life, I’ve found that is the best way to do it. If there is something that only 1 person will use, that person can buy it separately.
