I've cycled across Europe and have stayed with Romani communities a number of times, I even once was invited to a wedding. Most people were pretty friendly to me and nothing was stolen despite having an expensive bike and camera. There is indeed a lot of poverty among many Romani communities. It's a vicious cycle, it isn't so different from what has happened in places such as Salford in the UK. Try not to be too judgemental.

You can fight for systemic change if you think something is unfair, but refusing to integrate with the rest of society in any way, shape, or form...there needs to be a compromise at some point. The receptionist literally had to fight them just to get her pens and clip board back she lent to them. And when they gave up and passed them back on the threat of no help things appeared from the pockets of the entire row of them, elderly, adults and kids on the end of the row. They had picked up anything they could see lying around that might have any value. Utter scumbags.

My great grandparents and my grandmother took off from Bulgaria for a America in 1936 or 37. My grandmother can speak Bulagrian but refuses to, English only in this house, she would scream. I am romanian and I've visited it at least 20 times, each time by car just using google maps and never had any issues. I can guarantee you that you would be 100 times safer in these slums than you would be in O block in Chicago. This is a tiny part of the country, which is overall beautiful and quite touristy. You should visit it once this pandemic s*hit dies down, especially since Bulgaria is in the EU and your dollars will go a long way, since the country is a lot cheaper overall.

I’m seeing all these racist comments about the roma people and all I’m gonna say is that not all of us are the same. Most are raised in the ghettos and are poor. Some are lucky to move out and live a Normal life. Being a gypsy in today’s society isn’t easy especially when you’ve faced racism your whole life just because of where you were from. We deserve better and are still fighting for justice. Me and my people will get the justice and respect that we deserve. Roma women are also sexualised most of the time. I know quite an assortment of romani people and have close relations with them. I'm a raklo yet I've been trusted to actually tattoo dozens of them which of course is a sign of trust and respect. I've been to their homes, eating at their tables which is a "sacred place" for the romani since they're ALL about the home and the family. I've had them in my home. I've put my trust in to them aswell and I haven't been let down. Over the years I've come to the realization that while it's true the romani heritage is prevalent there's another side to them. You need to understand the gypsies are travelling people because they've never really had a land of their own, a place to call home. They've also been oppressed and ostracised through their whole history. Enslaved and persecuted. Due to being forced to travel the earth due to not having a homeland they've mastered the trades of travelling people to feed their families, which are; music and showmanship, mysticism and magical arts, peddling and trading, gambling and even thievery. It's part of their identity since it's part of their cultural history, you need to understand this goes back hundreds and hundreds of years. So the question is, are they all lowlife untrustworthy backstabbing petty pickpockets? Absolutely not. Will some of them try to hustle you if you're a "nobody" to them? Of course, but you'll find hustlers in other cultures aswell, maybe just less idiosyncratic and stereotypical. Once you gain their trust and they accept you as part of their "clan" which transcends blood relations, social status and skin color - they'll care for you like they care for their brother or sister and will be there for you in a situation where no one else will. They're beautiful people, loud and colorful people who enjoy laughter, music, dance, good food and living in the moment. That might be too much for the most conservative people to handle but then again, the gray and dull overly conservative people are really fucking boring and uptight and I wouldn't want to agree with them anyways :)
All projects which are supposed to help the roma people don't deal with the major issue. The Roma are not considered to be a functioning part of society, and in truth they don't consider themselves as a part of a nations society. My great grandparents and my grandmother took off from Bulgaria for a America in 1936 or 37. My grandmother can speak Bulagrian but refuses to, English only in this house, she would scream. I am romanian and I've visited it at least 20 times, each time by car just using google maps and never had any issues. I can guarantee you that you would be 100 times safer in these slums than you would be in O block in Chicago. This is a tiny part of the country, which is overall beautiful and quite touristy. You should visit it once this pandemic s*hit dies down, especially since Bulgaria is in the EU and your dollars will go a long way, since the country is a lot cheaper overall.

I’m seeing all these racist comments about the roma people and all I’m gonna say is that not all of us are the same. Most are raised in the ghettos and are poor. Some are lucky to move out and live a Normal life. Being a gypsy in today’s society isn’t easy especially when you’ve faced racism your whole life just because of where you were from. We deserve better and are still fighting for justice. Me and my people will get the justice and respect that we deserve.

I know quite an assortment of romani people and have close relations with them. I'm a raklo yet I've been trusted to actually tattoo dozens of them which of course is a sign of trust and respect. I've been to their homes, eating at their tables which is a "sacred place" for the romani since they're ALL about the home and the family. I've had them in my home. I've put my trust in to them aswell and I haven't been let down. Over the years I've come to the realization that while it's true the romani heritage is prevalent there's another side to them. You need to understand the gypsies are travelling people because they've never really had a land of their own, a place to call home. They've also been oppressed and ostracised through their whole history. Enslaved and persecuted. Due to being forced to travel the earth due to not having a homeland they've mastered the trades of travelling people to feed their families, which are; music and showmanship, mysticism and magical arts, peddling and trading, gambling and even thievery. It's part of their identity since it's part of their cultural history, you need to understand this goes back hundreds and hundreds of years.
So the question is, are they all lowlife untrustworthy backstabbing petty pickpockets? Absolutely not. Will some of them try to hustle you if you're a "nobody" to them? Of course, but you'll find hustlers in other cultures aswell, maybe just less idiosyncratic and stereotypical. Once you gain their trust and they accept you as part of their "clan" which transcends blood relations, social status and skin color - they'll care for you like they care for their brother or sister and will be there for you in a situation where no one else will. They're beautiful people, loud and colorful people who enjoy laughter, music, dance, good food and living in the moment. That might be too much for the most conservative people to handle but then again, the gray and dull overly conservative people are really fucking boring and uptight and I wouldn't want to agree with them anyways :)

Why would anyone work for a better world if they will always be seen as shit. How much can people tolerate before they get enough. In the end a nation must chose how to deal with its own population and those who feel like they don't belong.
