Brilliant man. Thanks, this has just happened to me today - oil on the driveway and now the roof won’t work - I’m guessing that it’s hydraulic oil on the drive but you need to get the bloody roof off to get to the pump. Genius…

Great vid. What does this allen screw do exactly when youre unscrewing it? Reason i ask is, clamshell on my '99 c4 cab works but when opening the roof, at the end of the cycle it does not sit flush with the body and stops about 95% of the way. I dont wanna unscrew anything cause apparently the calibration is a PITA. Any thoughts?

The screw pulls on the cable that hooks to the latch-hooks and once wound all the way pulls the latch apart. So yes tightening would tighten your latch down.
This portion does not affect the roof calibration in any way as it only forces open the latch. nothing to do with the folding mechanism.

@@fastwheeler7225 Thanks! It's rather interesting you'd say that cause I read the Porsche service manual on the top on renntech a lil while ago, it says that the "compartment lid motor drive screw" is part of an emergency release in case the top fails for whatever reason. Another emergency release allen screw was said to be in the front top latch. Interestingly, both need to be "recalibrated" before performing a computer calibration. So I'm a little hesitant about touching it just yet.
What I was thinking to do was, I'd put the top in service position (till clamshell fully retracts as it does right now to 95%). Then unscrew counterclockwise till I can see it reaching the last 5%. What's currently happening is that clamshell retracts 95%, then comes back to finish the cycle, also at 95%, so as to stop about 1 cm away. Doesnt sit flush.

Did you find it really hard to turn to release the cowl when turning it anticlockwise?

yes, it can if the latch or something is gammed. maybe trying having someone apply pressure on the body panel while you screw

Thanks for the tip. I manually raised the roof as you've show, but the motorized latch failed to work. Have you had the same issue? To be clear, I had to do this because the hydraulic arms for the top are blown.

      My latch wasn’t working either.
The engine cover needs to be closed and parking brake engaged for it to function.
And try the key in the door method to trigger the top movement. I have found it to be less picky when troubleshooting instead of the dashboard button.

Hey, not sure if you’re gonna see a comment still…so just bought one, told me top didn’t work at all. Pressure screw was loose (left of that deck lid screw) and the soft top works but deck lid wouldn’t move, had to do this to manually operate. Was able to turn right (reverse of what you’re showing and it works to close the top and comes back down but when opening the deck lid stops 95% of the way. It’s like the travel to close isn’t far enough. Any ideas?

Exact same issue here. Did you figure out what to do to fix?

You can remove one rod holing by piston each side and moves freely. I found it was easier for me since top was not going down.

Thanks! I am yet to tackle the hydraulics system yet. Thinking I might just get it to collapse and leave it for the summer to figure out lol

@@fastwheeler7225 yeah. What i did it. I manually folded inside and never bothered to open up because i got a hardtop. Cheaper than fixing system
