Would be lot better if Rb dmx1 unit had Cpu quad inside to handle post dmx midi processing via USB C connection, what I mean is rekordbox DJ is using too much CPU with dmx, audio, midi together, it's good idea may work for some, but it's too much CPU for djin for me
So if I have two CDJ2000NXS and a DJM900NXS2 I need to keep my CDJs plugged into my laptop with Rekordbox running in order to utilize this new piece of hardware and software correct? Essentially, I need to turn my CDJs into expensive controllers?
Yeah man, unfortunately it doesn't work standalone with CDJs - you still need to be running Rekordbox DJ on your laptop. If you just want to use CDJs, there's an app from Pioneer DJ too called ShowKontrol :) www.digitaldjtips.com/2017/10/pioneer-dj-launches-soundswitch-automated-lighting-competitor/
Good question DJ maik - our full review write-up has a lot more detail on the lights while in use. Check it out and if any other questions pop up, make sure to ask them in the comment section underneath: www.digitaldjtips.com/reviews/rbdmx1/
soundswitch because you can set up more fuxtures. Rb-dmx1 you can control par led, movers and strobo and you cannot control fixtures with effects: lasers, scanners spiders etc instead with soundswitch yes you can. hope this helps
Hey Nacho! :) Yeah you can - there is a fixture library list that you can find in Lighting Mode. Also if you don't see your light there, you can send a support ticket to Pioneer DJ and they will add it for you :)
I want to like it, but who really wants to dj with their laptop in a propper club environment? there should surely be a way to export the lighting scenes to usb along with your tracks and then connect the dmx box to the controler or to the decks? If i were djing with a laptop with all the lighting control, id be constantly distracted thinking about that dodgy light in the corner thats spinning in the wrong direction. love the idea of preparing lighting scenes to tracks though
This product is not ready for use yet except for the simplest par can setups. The number one problem is the library of supported fixtures is incomplete at best. Thousands of fixtures are NOT supported. Once that happens, you are supposed to send in a support ticket and they will add it? Yeah right, like when? Months? You should not have to send in any support tickets, you should be able to map your own channels and define your own fixture. Almost all lighting programs allow you to do this. Also, as has been pointed out elsewhere, for many fixtures with multiple functions and internal programs, Pioneer’s support consists of allowing you to control the color channels and maybe the primary motion channels like pan/tilt. Most fixtures have a library of internal programs and special features accessed with DMX. These are usually very individual to the type of effect light you are running. The RB_DMX will not allow access to these special programs. So you are basically cutting the balls off your light and turning it into something basic and boring. This might be OK for basic ADJ DJ lights, but DJs today are using all manner of professional stage lights in their rigs, so with many interesting programs and capabilities. We need total control over the entire DMX spectrum for each of these lights. So we can;t send in a support ticket, we need to be able to get directly into the DMX mapping and control ALL the capabilities within each light. Also, more and more lights are supporting alternative connections such as Ethernet, SACN, Art-Net, etc. We should be looking for more advanced connection methods in future versions. This is an OK start and a good concept, but this product is NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME.
Awesome. I would love to see some live midi manipulation in an in-depth review. I just bought an ArtNet adapter for DMX control. I saw this product but the price was off-putting. Now, I'm wishing I had some of Rekordbox's features.
I'm just glad someone finally made a review on the RB-DMX1...
:)

Yes this is truly amazing
Nice one :)

Happy RB users can do this but for non RB users i highly recommend SoundSwich
Nice one :)
this is truly cool.
Yeah pretty neat :)
Thank you!
No problem!
What happens when you're playing 3 tracks with different lighting scenes at the same time? The ''master track'' scene will only show?

you can control just channel 1 and 2. 3 and 4 are not recognizable by rb dmx1
Joey do you think a Donner DMX512 DMX Dfi 2.4G Wireless Receiver Transmitter Lighting Control will work with the RB-DMX1?
Hey Phil! Possibly, definitely check with Pioneer DJ support before purchasing just in case 👍
yes they are!
I am using them
What lights would you recommend purchasing first as a starting set
We don't really have any recommendations for starting sets, we'll have a think and maybe cover it in future
@@digitaldjtips thx tho m8 👍
I’d say par cans, easy to use and easy to set up.
RB-DMX1 VS Soundswitch?
soundswitch because you can set up more fuxtures. Rb-dmx1 you can control par led, movers and strobo and you cannot control fixtures with effects: lasers, scanners spiders etc instead with soundswitch yes you can. hope this helps
Hey Joey! Is it possible to check if my lights are in the library without buying the product? Thanks bro 🤟

Yeah we’re hearing that a lot. Hopefully development will pick up...
Cool
😀
What lighting related controls be mapped via midi?
There's a ton mate - colour, brightness, intensity, movement... :)

Thanos in the background. :)
😀
no laser control? I thought lasers were lights.
