I love Taro and Chopo, which is almost the same we eat that in Cuba like crazy, it's called the natural steroid However, the Mexicans don't really know much about it. Instead, they just eat Casava or also known as Yuca, which is good too. An awesome thing is that Samoans also cook the taro leaf with coconut 🥥 milk and it's a Meal.
Dude.. Samaon pankeke, is like the best thing ever.. I miss that stuff so much. Ever since the little shop shut down at my local marcket. I really miss being a kid in NZ back in the 80's. Hanging out at my school friends homes, eating the weirdest things.. I miss those times.
Actually though, I have been to Wellington, Christchurch, Hawaii, Samoan and Tonga and the food isn't the same. In all those places I tried to find "Island" food. But I think Auckland has developed its own "Island" food culture which is great! I always love new and original food cultures, imagine where it will be in 20 or 30 years!
Tell the Mexican that Luau is the same as palusami. Same thing! Also you should've got them to try the different buns at Pinakis. The pani popo donut bun, German bun etc. They'd love it!
