  • Scottish Television supernatural/mystery drama series broadcast on Sunday afternoons on ITV during the summer of 1987.
Shadow of the Stone is a 6 part series about an unhappy teenage girl (Liz), her friendship with an American yachtsman (Steve) and her spiritual link with a 17th century girl who was tried for witchcraft (Marie Lamont).
It was based in and mostly filmed in Gourock in Renfrewshire (with some scenes at Gourock High School) - the Granny Kempock Stone is a central part of the story. Boats and the sea are major plotlines too.
A brilliant story, I recommend this for fans of Children of the Stones, or any other teenage oriented sci-fi/mystery/adventure series.
Shirley Henderson is fantastic here as Elizabeth in her first ever television role. She's definitely a natural and really gives a powerful performance. (Now well known as "Moaning Myrtle" from Harry Potter films).
Also Alan Cumming stars as Tom. Nic d'Avirro is Steve and the now late Irene Sunters ("Maggie" from Take the High Road) plays Rose. Shown on Sunday afternoons in the beautiful summer of 1987, then never shown again, and almost completely forgotten. (This video will be removed from RUclips if either it is released on DVD, or if I am contacted directly by Scottish requesting such an action be taken).
