My mom left my dad, me and my sisters when he lost his job after getting surgery on his broken foot, and my dad took care of the three of us. He lost the house we were renting and we had to live with my aunt. He worked 2 jobs, and did landscaping side jobs with me to make more money. There are many companies that pay their investors with 5% or more of their dividends, that a lot higher than what a savings account gives out. Why open a savings account when the bank only offers 0.5%APR. Also don't be afraid of a stock going down or if the stock market crashes because you can buy a lot more shares. The stock market will recover anyway and then you can make a tone of money. Over the years of buying shares you will build enough dividends to the point that you can live on them and you don't need to work anymore. That's what everyone should be doing

I sometimes look at my situation and wonder if I was doomed from the start or just some sort of genetic anomaly. Ma man, in many things you are right and this is part of becoming adult but in many other things you are too resentful and this is dangerous for you. I agree with most of what was said...the new age mothers may be as described. However, I come from a country that went through war not so long ago and I've seen numerous cases of mother's giving their lives so that their kids would live...and regardless of the critical lense, that gives me hope.
