I have two steam juicers and do use them as others have said. It makes life go a lot easier. Canning large loads is hard work especially if you are older. I love it.
An older canner here and have had a steam juicer for 30yrs and I love it!!! No removing grapes from stems and no straining! I won't do any kind of juice without my steam juicer!
This seems to be the general consensus! Not having to remove the grapes from the stems sounds wonderful. I think I’ve been convinced I need to invest in one. Thanks for sharing!
We used the steamer/juicer for the first time this year. The quality of the juice was awesome and a lot more concentrated that boiling the fruit in water. For the large batches that you were doing I definitely would think that it is worth the space and money.
I was cutting fire wood today and after seeing you canning grape juice, then I got so thirsty I probably could of drank a half gallon no problem. Thank you Abbey .
I absolutely love my steam juicer. Like you said, we only really use it a few months of the year, but we use it with a lot of different items and it has definitely earned its home in storage.
I have a steam juicer and find it very beneficial for many different fruits and veggiesto make juices and to have the juice as a base to make jelly. I use mine about 4-5 times a year, depending on how the crops come in. It saves my old hands from having to peel away skins or remove from a stalk, like grapes. I just keep the steamer in my canning closet and pull it out when needed.
I have never preserved grapes. Our local Amish stores sells a lot of grape products, so we just support them when we need anything grape. I love my steamer/juicer. I actually use it a lot more than I thought I would when I bought it. My favorite is my homemade vegetable juice. (v8) I do have a large basement to store all my equipment in when not in use, that does help a lot. Thanks for sharing this recipe using grapes. Your kitchen is beautiful. Have a great weekend!
Our grapes will be ready to harvest by next week. I think that I'll do juice, jams, and raisins for raisin cider vinegar. That sounds like a winner. Possibly even a medicinal syrup of sorts. Thank you for sharing. 👍🏽😊🌱🍇
Yum. I wish we had grapes but my hubby does not want to deal with them so there you go. We do have a lot of blackberry vines. Thanks for the great video.
This looks so delicious. I've just planted a green and a red grape. Im looking forward to trying this in years to come. Love your videos, and hello from New Zealand.
I have a steam juicer and I use it all year round. I keep fruit in my freezer that I can’t process fast enough and make quarts through out the winter/spring
That’s a good way to do it to cut down on overwhelm through canning season. I do that a lot with our tomatoes. It seems the steam juicer is worth it based on everyone’s comments!
Abbie when you go to drink the grape juice, do you have to mix with water when you go to drink it ? I will say you are the only you tuber that I watch make juice. Thank you God bless and be safe 🙏 ❤️
Hi Penny! You don’t have to, we do because it is quite sweet. Usually fill a glass 1/4-1/2 full with the juice and top off with water :) thank you for watching!
Abbey you can make cider vinegar with your raisins from last year. It’s just as easy as making apple cider vinegar. Just wanted to toss another option your way. Loving your videos btw! ❤
Sorry if I missed it…. Did you add sugar? My mom used to put whole fresh grapes, sugar and water in quart jars, WB, and put on shelves. When we served it, we’d strain it and top off the pitcher with water. I remember it fondly. Nowadays I eat less sugar….
This is so helpful as I do not have a juicer. What other fruits do you make juice out of? There has been demand in my house for canned drinks to avoid drink mixes. To serve how much do you dilute?
I do the same process with berries. I’ve heard of people doing this with apples as well. I haven’t tried it yet but I plan to this year. You can dilute based on your preference. We will usually fill a glass 1/4 full with the concentrate and top off with water :)
YES to the Steam Juicer! Its an incredible tool. I just made apple butter, and the peels/cores went into the steam juicer and got an extra quart of juice out of the approx 14 quarts of apples. These would have been tossed if I didn't have the steam juicer. Yes, it's an extra step, and didn't get much, but I feel its better than not having apple juice for the kiddos. Thank you for having the 'no life story' on your recipe website and the refrence to the source of where you found these recipies. THANK YOU!!!

I think I’ve been convinced I need one now! If it makes busy canning season a little easier it will be well worth it.

I just used mine for the first time today… love it! Even if I only ever use it for grapes once a year I’ll keep it around. Completely worth it to me.

Thank you for sharing!!! I love all of your videos…. Very informative… I learn something new all the time!! Thank you
Thank you for the kind words Karrie!

Thanks for sharing that! I’m always picky about bringing in another appliance. So far the general consensus is that they are well worth it :)

I didn’t consider that I’d be able to leave the stems on the grapes - that would make for a much quicker process! Thank you for your input Brenda!

I’m thinking it is something worth investing in after all. Homemade vegetable juice sounds delicious. Hope you are enjoying your weekend Marti!
@martiestes8932 how do you make the v8 juice? My husband has one every day!

So envious of your roaster btw! It's very nice. I recently gave away two of mine. I now regret it unfortunately. 😔😬
Oh no! Keep your eye on the buy & sells and thrift stores. I see them come up quite often.
That sounds great! I think I will also do some jam when our red grapes are ready.
@@abbeyverigin 😋
@@abbeyverigin good idea, thanks!😊
You want the steam juicer. Absolutely worth it!
Thanks Melissa. I think I’ve been convinced with all the positive reviews!
A steam juicer is worth the expense. It saves so much time cleaning and preparing the fruit for juicing.
That seems to be the general consensus! Thanks for sharing

Thanks Denise! We have lots of blackberries as well. I follow the same process for them but generally will sweeten it some.
Awesome project❤
Thank you!

Hello! Thank you so much!
An easy way to make juice is to put 1 c. Of fruit to water or or light sugar syrup. Can like usual and let sit.
I have tried this with cranberries but not grapes. I may need to give it a try for the next round.

Do you ever use a food mill to remove the skins ? This should give you more juice also.
I haven’t tried that but that’s a good idea!
This looks like a fun thjng to grow!!! Do you know the variety/name of your grapes? Are the seedless?
I don't! They were established on our property when we moved here. Our green grapes are seedless.

I haven’t heard of that. Thanks for the idea & kind words Amy!
So what do you do with your raisin cider vinegar??? This sounds very interesting
@@karriemb4184 I use it in substitution for any recipe I’d use ACV in. It’s a great flavor and very versatile. 😊
@@amyparker1762 thank you!! I will try this !!! How long did it take until you used it ??

We don’t add any sugar :) they’ve always been plenty sweet without
Did you know that you can also consume the grape leaves? I love your videos.
Yes! I should really try to make some homemade dolmathes. Thank you!
can this be done with frozen grapes and does it need lemon juice. thank you I love watching your videos
Yes it could be done with lemon juice. It doesn’t need lemon juice. Thank you!

Can you can carrot juice?
I have not seen a tested recipe for it.
It would need to be pressure canned
You said it’s concentrate. What part juice to water do you mix?
We usually mix per glass and do about 1/4 juice and top off with water
