    "Death of Superman" - Part 2 of 2
    In this episode, Dan goes into detail on how he constructed a custom McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse "Death of Superman" Superman action figure. This figure is also half kitbash, with custom paint and sculpting this time, as well as custom cloth clothing! I go over the construction of this figure from head to toe, including photos I took to document the process, as well as a list of all of the parts you will need at home if you decide to try your hand at making one! Both figures (Superman and Doomsday) are based primarily off of their respective appearances in 1993's "Superman," issue #75 (vol. 2), the issue in which Doomsday killed Superman, with art by Dan Jurgens.

    it seems like most artists don't bother with those Dan Jurgens bruises but WOW they really crystalize that comic for me. excellent choice.

      Thank you! You never know. He did an updated version, for right before New 52 began. The story was "Reign of the Doomsdays," if I'm not mistaken. Maybe he'll do a 90's version someday, along with 90's versions of the 4 Supermen, as the ones out now are all modern versions of the characters, especially the upcoming Cyborg Superman, which isn't even technically Hank Henshaw, I don't think.

      I know they did. I'm pretty sure I mentioned it in the video. But I like McFarlane figures. Not DC icons so much. And it's kind of fun putting this stuff together myself. To each their own, I suppose.

    Trivia: Superman #75 has a cover date of January 1993 but was released on November 18, 1992. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Death of Superman! I was sixteen when it hit shelves...it was an amazing experience. Fantastic custom!

      I had just turned 9 two weeks earlier myself, and I remember being devestated that Superman would die RIGHT after my birthday (or at all, for that matter). Can't believe it's been 30 years already... Thanks for watching, and keep it here! Reign of the Supermen customs are coming VERY shortly....

    Those are great! I'm so jealous of people that can do these custom figures. They look so much better than stock figures. Mcfarlane Toys is one of the best as far as sculpting goes, but even they fall short. Don't even get me started on wrestling figures! They're all horrible. I'd love to see someone do a custom wwe figure! But great content! Subbed you up!

    • @VoidCityReviews

      Dan did an awesome job with this figure, but we're essentially amateurs ourselves. It basically just takes time, patience, and a willingness to try new things to get started customizing... and some money for figures, though Toast started out on figures he didn't mind screwing up on, if things went poorly.

    • @VoidCityReviews
      @VoidCityReviews  2 года назад +1

      What Toast said. Pretty much just went into this blind and so far you have seen the outcome. It's mostly just been a lot of experimentation and happy accidents. So many of these come out differently than planned.

    "Supergirl gets her face punched off" lmao. I was too young to remember her involved in the battle.

    • @VoidCityReviews
      @VoidCityReviews  2 года назад

      Right? So as a kid, most of my exposure to Supergirl was through the movie that was loosely tied to the Christopher Reeve Superman universe. So for the most part that's what I knew of Supergirl. so when she shows up throughout the death of Superman hanging out with Alexander Luthor and he won't let her go join the battle to help Superman... I had no idea that the actual Supergirl I was thinking of was dead at that point. I knew nothing about Crisis back then.
      So when she finally does join, and immediately gets her face punched off of her head and falls to the ground looking like a little grey alien that's melting, I was VERY confused, as in my mind I was thinking even as a kid she should be pretty close to power level of Superman considering they are the same thing from the same place..... obviously now I know better but it still stands out in my mind it's one of the craziest parts of that whole comic book story. Traumatised forever. 😂😂🤦🏼

    Wanted a battle damaged Superman for so long! I need something to stand opposite my custom Doomsday. Maybe someday McFarlane will give us one. I missed the Death of Superman two pack that released way back when and I don't wanna pay so much for both when there's only one figure that I want.

    • @VoidCityReviews
      @VoidCityReviews  2 года назад

      Well, I've shown you another solution right here. No time like the present to pick up a new hobby! ;-) But it would be interesting to see an official McFarlane release of his version of Doomsday and battle damaged Superman. I'm also curious to see what his eventual McFarlane design Superman will look like for that matter. He's done Batman and Wonder Woman so it only makes sense.

    Is apoxy different from epoxy?

    • @VoidCityReviews
      @VoidCityReviews  2 года назад +1

      Don't quote me on this because I'm sure there is now info out there... "Apoxie Sculpt" is the modeling compound I use for my figures, a real part, moldable modeling "clay" that fully cures without baking in about 12 hours. "Epoxy," as far as I can see, is a type of clear resin, like you see in those cool RUclips videos where people suspend various small objects in clear cubes or other shapes. I believe those are also a two-part compound typically, but from there they are mostly different, and for different things. If you look up videos on RUclips about suspending objects in epoxy resin, there are some really cool videos out there. But what I use is "Apoxie Sculpt," different spelling, different use and item. Hopefully that helps! 🙂

    • @VoidCityReviews
      @VoidCityReviews  Год назад +2

      I consider him done. I don't need the bright green for his pants, I kind of like them darker. I still may try to find something to look like the cable around his waist, probably when I look into starting the INTACT green-suit Doomsday, I'll need plenty of "cables" for that version!

    • @DeadgrinCustoms
      @DeadgrinCustoms Год назад +1

      @@VoidCityReviews awesome. Well yeah he definitely looks done as is. The darker colors are killer.
