Any time I need meals with dietary requirements I bring my own and hand it to the person making the food so if they fix me a plate I don't look stupid taking out food out of my backpack (which is also disrespectful).
My mom would be okay with both, but she finds out I got the vaccine, and she goes insane, and tells me it was the worst decision of my life (she even put a magnet on my arm when I wasn't looking and expected it to stick because of the vaccine, also she doesn't call it a vaccine because she says it isn't one). Also, if someone is omnivores they can pretty much eat anything (unless they’re allergic to some things) so it’s not a rly big deal imo also speaking from experience

I just assured him I had no regrets about doing those things as they made me who I am. Yes, there are things I’d like to have done that weren’t seen as “masculine” in the 80s/90s (dance), but you can’t do everything!

ik this is a bit, but one piece of advice i read on tumblr forever ago and never forgot was: when someone is coming out to you (not only applicable to sexuality or gender identity), MATCH THEIR ENERGY. if they mention it like it's no big deal, roll with it (because it's not a big deal lmao). if they're anxious or afraid of your reaction, be reassuring. if they're acting like letting you know it's a milestone, be appreciative of that trust. it's a good way to avoid making the person uncomfortable with a reaction that they're likely not prepared for

A friend came out to me and I said "Oh, okay, but do you have mozzarella?" To be fair we were in the middle of cooking dinner and she blurted it out. She had been working up to tell someone for weeks and it just "popped". After a hug and a couple of tears she did think it was hilarious. ... That is something I can understand. Who you love is a thing between you and your partner. No one else is gonna have any downsides or something, beside from having to interact with them from time to time and hopefully getting along. But vegan? That means you have to either specifically cook for someone or you have to look out for dishes that are vegan! That puts labor on you!

I don’t remember my dad saying anything when I came out so assumed it was a huge problem for him. A couple years later he randomly started a conversation, “I knew you were gay at 5 yrs old and feel I may have pressured into things you may not have wanted to do.” Meaning little league baseball, basketball, soccer, hunting typical “masculine” things. I just assured him I had no regrets about doing those things as they made me who I am. Yes, there are things I’d like to have done that weren’t seen as “masculine” in the 80s/90s (dance), but you can’t do everything!

... That is something I can understand. Who you love is a thing between you and your partner. No one else is gonna have any downsides or something, beside from having to interact with them from time to time and hopefully getting along. But vegan? That means you have to either specifically cook for someone or you have to look out for dishes that are vegan! That puts labor on you!

It was the same way with my sister. We all thought she was gay until she was like 25. She only ever brought female friends home to family events. Then boom - she’s engaged to a guy. lol. Turns out she just never wanted anyone in her business & she would rather have everyone think she’s gay until it got serious. 😂😂 she’s been happily married to Brian for 10 years.

For the most part she’s understanding and supportive, but sometimes she completely forgets that I’m different and (for instance) tells me that I’m a slob when my room gets messy. Your dad probably loves you just as much as she loves me, but they’ve spent a lifetime being conditioned that there is only one “correct” way to exist in this world. I’m truly sorry that you have to deal with that, and I hope you get the acceptance and support you need to help you move forward :)
