Use powder graphite on your "journal" bearings on the tender trucks. Oil will gum up over time and swell the plastic. As for oil, a synthetic will last longer. Micromark has an oil needle dispenser that I have used for 20+ years and works great. The kersosene mix will evaporate and gum up. Aren't the contact wheels supposed to be alternated two one one side two on the other or are they all supposed to be on the same rail on the tender?
All on same side.
The locomotive provides contact with other rail.
What you suggest would create a dead short.
