@R My mother was a woman in her 50s in 1976 who not only knew who The Rolling Stones were, but went with my sister to parties thrown by Van Halen, Quiet Riot, and Ozzy Osbourne. She said they were all "very nice boys". Who's to say what's "normal"?

Here we are at week 149 (of 291) for our favorite classic game show. These episodes were taped on May 15, 1976 and first aired in late June and early July of 1976. (Happy Bicentennial, America!)
Once again, our three stalwart regulars are all in their places with bright, shiny faces, and this week they're joined by:
~~~Semi-regular Patti Deutsch, whose last appearance was six weeks ago. This is her 23rd week (of 42). She stands at 1 for 2 in the head-to-head match department.
~~~George Kennedy, returning for his second week (of 5). George made his debut in episodes 666-670 and scored *two* H/H matches that week!
~~~Donna Mills, another celebrity who joins the panel for only one week.
This week, I'd love to see George score his third H/H match and break into the big leader board, and of course, I'm rooting for semi-regular Patti to have another chance to play (and match) in the head-to-head.
Seeing regulars Brett and Charles participating in the H/H is always fun, and a nice change of pace. Charles had an opportunity to shine recently (he played nine times between 707 and 717), but Brett now hasn't played since three in a row back in 690-692, so I'd love to see her have another turn this week.
Anyway, whatever happens in the H/H this week, I plan to just sit back and enjoy some 1970s-style ________!

Now the fun part. Last time he chose Richard for the head-to-head, but they didn't match. I thought Fannie was his likely second choice last time, but of course she's not here this week, so that leaves... Richard again? He also called on George and Brett for suggestions today, so maybe...
He sticks with Richard. Richard has now played 18 of the 20 most recent head-to-heads, nine of which he matched (not counting a possible match today, as I don't know the result yet). He has missed the past three times in a row, so it would seem like he's "due" for a win today...
Today's H/H question: "Jimmy __________"
(Yuck. I hate name questions because it's hard to remember who was well-known in 1976. But I'd say Jimmy Durante and Jimmy Stewart are two good possibilities. I guess Jimmy Olsen would be another possibility. If I had to pick one, I guess I'd go for Stewart.)
With no hesitation, Richard writes his answer which appears to be about five or six letters and promptly sticks it in the slot. Ding.
The champion confidently answers "Durante." The audience applauds, but their reaction seems a bit restrained compared to other days.
When the camera cuts to Richard, he's looking a bit off to the side with a bored, distant expression that's impossible to read. He mentions Jimmy Carter (I hadn't thought of that), and then reveals "Cagney" (another one I hadn't thought of).
No match today.

I think Richard Dawson gave the answer "net" to be funny, but also to hopefully keep the female contestant in the game with a tie. Then Patti guessed the right answer with "bulls eye" with was a surprise since her answers were usually very unique to her :)

One thing's for sure: Richard is SO over Brett and Charles by this point. His contempt is well visible and increasingly audible.
Frankly, I congratulate him for tolerating it as long as he has. Brett's incessant coughing and hogging the camera makes me crazy too.
I would've definitely been over Brett by this point too. She has to be the most annoying game show personality in history. (I like Charles though.)
I love Brett, leave her alone. At least she ain't checking out every Tom, Dick , and Harry that Richard does. He hits on every single girl that he thinks is attractive. Every single one. I wouldn't touch him. And Brett with all her antics is very kind hearted. If you notice many pretty contestants don't call on him, I bet on purpose. 😋

Yes it's ironic, but in my opinion Gene was way more cringe-inducing than Dawson ever was on Family Feud.
Only thing "cringe" is people complaining about who they hug or kiss on a show that was very well known for it.

Been watching these for a while now and have come to the point of muting Brett in order to watch.
I know what You mean! I'm laid up after a surgery. So I've been watching LOTS and LOTS of these. And it's getting harder and harder to watch sometimes. Because Brett keeps getting worse and worse. Sometimes it almost seems like she just pushes to see how far she can go? When Brett and Jimmie Walker are on together it is far to miserable to watch.

Richard Dawson Did far better than Gene Rayyyyburn He got Family Fued and Kissed more women than anyone in Hollywood Also met a 18 year old contestant and married her and they had a kid together. So it doesn't really matter as far as him being the one who went on to Bigger and Better Things As far as Brett goes they usually taped several episodes in one day and the longer the day the more Vodka there was to drink. All in all I loved the show and it wouldn't have been the show it was without all the craziness of the different celebrities that were on the show. Some were just plain flaky with the answers per question.
