00:12 "condensing" all the functions to the center of the car makes so much sense. Great idea freeing the doors from knobs, cables and general weight. Although as a UX / UI designer for automotive I am not a fan of all digital buttons, but as driver having the main functions on the steering wheel and the others like HVAC on a display works well enough.

    • @matthiasdebernardini3388

    • @pixelasm

@@matthiasdebernardini3388 indeed it does. I suppose this is also why OEMs have such a strong urge to move as many buttons from the center stack to one of the displays. Although I still think that haptic touch displays are not a good replacement for tactile buttons I do understand their incentives to go all digital.

Volvo you pride yourself on safety..
Wouldn't it have been safer for the driver to have a heads-up-display in his line of sight rather than looking at the center console while driving?
Also while driving if the drive needs to raise or lower his window, then there are no buttons on the door now. Is it really safe and necessary to operate the windows from the touch screen that too while driving ?
The more i think about it, the more i'm getting annoyed with all these cost-cutting measures. Is it asking too much to atleast provide a HUD (or an option to select it as an add-on) please ?

Tesla has proven that you can have the safest car without a heads-up display. Volvo is taking notes from what Tesla is doing well. One could argue that having such information always in front of you is actually less safe, as it is in your way when you don't need it.

But regarding the HUD, is it really too much to ask for such a feature in a car scheduled for delivery in 2024 ? Also if one is really bothered by it then it can be kept as an additional option ... but to totally remove any form of driver display and to have everything crammed on only one central screen is just so dumb from Volvo.
What is the point in trying to ape Tesla in what they are doing...rather than staying true to your own core philosophy of safety and "design around you" ? Then I'd rather go ahead and opt for Tesla.. what is the usp for buying a volvo then ?
Really hoping for that they fix this in the cross-country version!

I disagree. Perhaps our experiences differ. On my current car I can't see the instrument display very well, it's quite dark, certainly not the speed. I find myself using the Garmin navigation unit I added to know exactly what speed I'm doing. I have that in the centre, just below the horizon and it's easy to get used to.

Nice looking car but the rear passenger space/legroom is too cramped when the driver seat is in a more normal position (and not pushed forward like in this video). This has been the deal breaker for many interested buyers who have seen this car in person. This car isn't really that small and other EVs of similar length have much better rear passenger space. Improve that and you will have many more interested buyers.

Most of it looks great, but I just cannot get behind not having an instrument/gps panel behind the steering wheel and not having physical/easily accessible buttons/knobs for functions I need to access while driving. The infotainment system just takes my eyes off the road much more than I am comfortable with.

I was considering this car ... until I went on Volvo website to configure it. Basically, I felt I was choosing a 'premium' car from an 'ordinary' configurator of a way less 'premium' car manufacturer. Three choices: Core, Plus, Ultra ... and then the engine choice. Core trim has 2 engine options, Plus 3 options, and Ultra 2 options. You choose the color (only 5 options .. and not even my favorite ones) ... and basically the configuration is over. What if I don't want the panoramic roof but I want the 360° camera or the Park Pilot Assist? No way to choose! If I want the Park Pilot Assist I must choose the Utra trim with its panoramic roof I don't want!! Why??? What if I want the Plus trim but would like the electric seat adjustment? No bloody way to choose! What is the difference between a premium manufacturer and an ordinary manufacturer? One of the differences is CHOICE! You can customize your car the way you want it. And here it looks as if I were on Dacia (sorry Dacia!) configurator. Moreover, it doesn't have the LED Matrix headlights option. Come on! Let's talk about the "premium" soundbar. Do you really believe that a single front soundbar will offer you a great surrounding listening experience?? Are you joking? I might be wrong, but I don't think this EX30 has voice-activated controls, right? Last but not least (as underlined by other users) the lack of a front display behind the steering wheel where you can check speed and navigation (like in the Zeekr counterpart). Too bad because I really like the design and its compact dimensions, ideal for narrow roads and parking slots. Instead of offering an absurd 428 hp engine (frankly ... who cares about the 3,4 sec from 0 to 100 km/h !!) why not offering a true choice in the configuration process? Potential buyers of this car will unlikely be tempted to compete with Ferraris on the traffic lights ... but maybe they would appreciate a customisable car ... with - why not - true premium options like LED Matrix headlights or a head-up display. For me it's a NO. 👎

Your comment was from 3 weeks ago and I only see 1 thumbs up, mine..
I think you're right about a lot of things, the most about the acceleration and how it is used to tell everybody how special this EX30 is. Not a big deal for me, that's for sure. Don't know how much money was spent to design this, but it could have been better spent for a more user friendly interior. The soundbar is a joke, the lack of a display behind the steering wheel is an unforgivable wrong choice, just like that big tablet where everything has to happen. At least in my opinion. And don't get me wrong, a central display comes in very handy for a lot of things, but essential driving information is something I like exactly in front of me! And why no HUD for the least?
I sometimes wonder if Volvo is trying to research how everybody reacts to their new appleish concept, and that the car on introduction will have more satisfying features that it has now. But reading this hausse of fan-comments I fear you and I won't be satisfied...

@@LeoWal01 You might be right 🙃 Volvo might monitor the reactions, and maybe do better in two or three years, when they'll present a slightly facelifted/updated version of it. I do hope so. Meanwhile, I do appreciate Volvo's decision to offer an entry-level model featuring an affordable quality that invites young and/or medium-income people to step inside its premium brand's world. People who - go figure - might later afford to buy a C40 or even a luxury EX90. An 'opportunity' once offered by BMW as well with its compact 3-series in the 90ies (a 320i E30 wasn't definitely cheap but not extremely expensive either). Now, the EX30 'counterpart' (entry-level full electric small SUV) @ BMW is the iX1 ... with a couple of options it starts around 70'000 EUR. Not exactly aimed at the younger generations or at the medium-income people out there. Clearly, BMW (but also other premium european brands) are more and more 'neglecting' their once faithful middle/upper-middle class customer base to rather embrace the upper class and beyond. I find it great that Volvo - as a premium brand - decides to open the doors to its premium world to a larger clientele with a truly affordable entry-level model. That deserves a thumb up! 👍

@@jamspad2088 To be honest, I do like them trying to be innovative and the exterior of the EX30 is pleasant to my eyes! But as mentioned, the interior makes me sad rather than happy. Maybe a test drive -somewhere next year- will change my mind.
Drove the full electric XC40 in a test drive a few months back and was pleasantly surprised by how a full EV felt (only used the required brake pedal to put the car in the reverse gear, 'braking' while driving is done by lifting the accelerator, so that the kinetic energy recharges the battery and the speed decreases, as you might know). That XC40 also has a big acceleration that my V70 D3 doesn't have (but that I as a matter of fact, actually don't need).
Summarizing: We'll keep an eye on the EX30 developments!

Why not ac vents for the rear passengers, are you guys moving backwards? 😩
Surely the window switches could move to the traditional position we're accustomed to. Surely the wiring wouldn't make a significant impact considering the convenience and comfort. Those are the key points you shouldn't have revised

    • @VolvoCars

Hi there, the air conditioning vents for the rear of the vehicle are located under the two front seats.
Adding the window switches centrally instead of on the doors, saves wiring - yes, it is a relatively small amount, but when you extrapolate that to many tens of thousands of cars per year, it makes a bigger difference than you might expect. And if we apply this thinking across the board, small gains can add up to something much bigger. /Anthony
