Mississippi Earl is likely not a member of the American Paulownia Association and purchased his planting stock from a company that is also not a member and as such would likely not be knowledgeable about the planting and culture of the tree. Therefore, one can only assume that he did not receive the proper Paulownia tree cultivar for his area (there are 9) and directions on how to manage the tree. Otherwise, he would not have made statements that are untrue and misleading. The Paulownia tree is a prehistoric native tree of North America (there are over 500 fossil records known), it has been shown to be non-invasive if managed properly and/or left to its own in an undisturbed natural environment. It is a fringe tree and does not compete well with grasses and other over-story hardwood tree species. If you wish to eradicate the tree roots, a little herbicide containing 2-4-D will do the job nicely. More individual and companies should be planting Paulownia trees to remediate the negative climate changes (global warming, CO2 sequestering, soil and air toxin removal, soil water and beneficial retention, etc. The entire non-native invasiveness designation given Paulownia during the early 2000's was a fraud perpetuated by bureaucratic agencies based on ulterior motives to permit harvesting this valuable tree in national and state parks. Also, few States have passed or imposed regulations against planting the Paulownia tree. All of the above statements are well documented and source material is available upon request from the Association at www.paulowniatrees.org

I was just wondering; if I choose to grow these by seed & use soil blocks, could I simply sprinkle a bunch of them onto the top of each soil block, or would it cause the roots to struggle, as multiple seeds attempt to grow roots in each soil block?

Are you having a meeting of the Association this year? A virtual meeting seems like a good idea, and, if the fees are lower, could attract a lot more people.

It's an invasive tree in Pennsylvania. It is not native.
