- This week i have been busy fixing my van for its MOT, but i did manage to get the tensioner and tracking system done on the mill. im really pleased with how its turned out.

What's more amazing is that Dewalt drill making it this far.
I dont understand why someone would say... that or that is not going too work.. this guy built his house out of mud and twigs. Built his own windmill and hydro system. And it's all still there and working. I would give him the benefit of the doubt 😂.

Well said. Many people who say such things have NEVER created anything in their lives. Their lives are based on being snarky and pointing the failings of others becuase they have nothing they have built themselves or too scared to fail in things outside their comfort zone. I respect a man that goes out into the world and fails, than a person playing it safe and never doing anything. I'm a gadget guy myself. I suspect many people who sub to this channel are on some level. We try stuff. it works or fails, but that is not the point. We improve our understanding with each failure or over engineering adventure. It is that love of figuring things out that drives us.
What's up with people commenting on stuff won't work. If you've followed Kris long enough, everything he does is considered in his approach to engineering his projects. If he hits an issue with design he fixes them. All power to him and his ingenuity and determination to make his own mill from scratch. Peace x
I have absolutely NO DOUBT that Kris will make a perfect bandsaw mill. When you partner skill, intelligence, and joy, there can be only one outcome. You light up my Fridays, man!

That saw is looking awesome Kris. It won't be long now and you'll be milling some serious volumes of lumber. you'll need log grapples for your tractor forks and possibly a skidder plate with winch next.

Awesome plan . The Laughing when the blade went for a walk was exactly what I would have done . Love the Jamiroquai hat . I can sort some service kit for that engine when I drop off the bits . Keep doing what you are doing . love it . Cheers Ade.

I definitely doubted your skills watching your videos, once, a few years ago, I continue to be impressed with the ingenuity and creativeness with reused or cheap materials. It helps remind me that we have infinite ways to create, why get stuck with "the way".

This is great. Bottle jack is fine. You can’t have give in the blade. Belts on the pulleys is exactly how it’s done. The drive pulley is a bit high as you mentioned. Doesn’t seem to be a problem though. A UHMW scraper on the ends of the carriage will keep the track clear. WoodMizer uses them. It’s what I have. Keep moving forward. 😁

Fascinating to watch
Thread a bolt through before welding.
Better way to do it is to line up the three nuts then weld the nuts & then tap the plate through the nuts. Personally i’d have welded on some threaded metal blocks instead of nuts, there would have been no need for expensive tig welding that way.

Looks great! If the engine doesn't have one already add an hour metre. Makes it wayyyy easier to keep track of servicing etc. And they're cheap as

I came up with the idea of doing exactly this! Using a bottle Jack as a blade tensioner.
And put my idea into motion only last weekend. With I could put photos to share with you.
Yours is obviously built to a far superior standard.

Brilliant! I recommend rigging in some sort of emergency stop mechanism that can be activated from any position you are likely too be in. Maybe something linked to the throttle or clutch?
You are like some sort of mad scientist. I do hope when this is finished and you start it up for the first time you scream 'It's alive,' I do hope you have a guard for the blade.

I love the idea of using the back of the v belt to drive the blade. When you get sawing the dust may build up in the v groove and play around with the blade tension so you'll need a brush or a scraper to keep them clear. You may need to fit a longer belt and an idler wheel on the non drive side to allow the sawdust to escape!! I'm hoping it all works out well - looking forward to your next instalment. Get some guards on the blade soon when it shoot off it looks dangerous - I wouldn't like to catch it!!
This is an earlier reply from Kris *"It will get guards at some point. When building a house you don't start with the roof. The blade will likely come off a lot more times yet as I get it all worked out. Then it all has to get painted and put back together and set up again. If i had guards every time that blade came off it would destroy it. £40 a time. For now just standing out the way works just fine. It can't get you if you are behind it."*
Nice build Kris, as a fellow Miller I highly recommend the daikin ripper 37 blades, Stephen cull blade master is a great supplier.

Great job mate it's coming along well. That metal cutting saw looks like a good job. I'll have to get myself one, mine broke when I was cutting the heavy steel for the track system 👍

Kris, You may want to consider a spring either under the jack or under the top of the jack. Having a hard connection does not allow your brade the flex it needs to keep from breaking. Most commercial mills have some type of spring in their tightening mechanism.
