Se me hace demasiado extraño que pasen este tipo de problemas técnicos. Al menos en Tomorrowland lo arreglaban en 2 minutos, como pasó con James Hype. Por cierto, no recordaba ver a Hardwell muy molesto, desde lo ocurrido en la F1 en México 2017, o desde que mandó a freír espárragos a la DJMAG por su ninguneo al Dj-Productor Atmozfears en el ADE 2016. Y cuando Hardwell se enoja, sabes que hay algo muy muy horrible.

I wanted to thank you for what you did at Saga Festival, last year I won a Dj contest and they promised me to play the evening on a big stage to give me good visibility, in the end I ended up in a tent in the middle of a heat wave playing at 4pm when the festival opened at 5pm ... thanks again 💪🔥

He proceeds to walk out and deliver an anti-Saga speech to the fans, cancelling his show 5. After his departure, Will Sparks performs with no problems 6. The next day, James Hype opens his set with a remix of his rant. 7. Nicki Minaj cancels her performance for unrelated reasons (Bucharest became a protest zone against economic policies in Romania) 8. After Hype’s performance goes viral, Hardwell was not amused, unfollowing Hype on his Instagram profile

I’m going to be honest… but Fuck Saga festival for the disrespect to Hardwell…the crowd was amazing but that was a horrible response to him on twitter from the promoters. The man works super hard and it should have been a massive red flag when they didn’t pay him. All artist including Hardwell deserve respect.
This is why I always respect him. He will always try his very best to play for the people. As he even said, he wasn’t paid to play but he still came. But then the festival let him down by putting out all the broken equipment on stage.
They should have backup for everything, mixer, players, cables... in 3 minute everything can be replaced with proper planed backup! At the big festivals there is a whole setup next to the main setup ready to mix on it if needed! Just switch the setup!
thats pretty much the standard setup nowadays to have a backup set in case one fails. The same situation happened to Tiesto at Ultra this year but they were up and running within minutes. Goes to show how mismanaged SAGA was.

I’m a musician and have been n situations like that where you’re not well paid but you go because you love your crowd - and then if the sound equipment and set up is bad or faulty, it can really put you over the top. I’m glad he got to say his piece about what was happening and can’t believe that staff guy trying to grab him to make him move. The guy grabbing him from behind was his manager. I once met Hardwell in front of our hotel in Poland on his Rebels Never Die World Tour and that was the exact same guy. I think he wanted to prevent Robbert from saying something stupid, I don't know. But I also know the same thing. I also had some booking without payment and the CDJs were f*cked or something similar. It really can give you the rest.

@@bogdan755 Nicki Minaj canceled her show hours before entering the stage because of „protests” (which will actually be tomorrow and have nothing to do with the area of the city where Saga takes place). The organizers could easily have explained to her that these are not violent protests (with guns/breaking stores like in the US), nor are these taking place anywhere near the festival. It seems like they didn't. Or probably Nicki Minaj canceled her show for another more simple reason that we will find out next year and this is just a lame excuse with the protests. Either way, Saga was an absolute fail this year

Ppl bumping into the decks. Even had one dude that kept coming over and touching the spinning vinyl while I was mixing, completely fucking every mix up. Eventually I said to him you do that one more time and I'm gonna stop the music and come knock u the fuck out. He disappeared, then came back n done it again. B4 i even had a chance to cut the volume, my pal who had been watching the whole thing all along had chinned him out 👊🏼😂.. the music stayed on 🔊. Anyways, hats off to hardwell

Amazing to see this from the start of the set. You can see him trying hard to continue the set before by mashing a button over and over in frustration.
You can literally see him duck down every so often to talk to the stage techs, and the organizers were like "you could've asked our stage techs to fix it blah blah"🙄

The only reason people still use them isbecause rekordbox is still very good software. If Engine DJ was better i'd be showing up with my own Denon CDJ's
I've never seen him talk like that on the microphone. I was scared. The good part is that he said everything that needed to be said without giving lying journalists the chance to invent something. He deserves respect, he's the best in the world right now.
I think he could have still played, technically, but he would be essentially using a playlist, which wouldn't be good enough for any DJ worth their salt. He could've 'saved' the show, but given everything he had to deal with, I respect his decision to walk out rather than deliver a bad set. Also you can see him carrying on with an emergency playlist, before something happens that was probably just confirming that they can't fix the equipment, and the whole set is gonna have to be the backup.

I had this one time at a local club. The People working there didn't know how to connect a DJ booth to speakers. I was so angry at the People working there. They didn't even say sorry!
Reminds me of Subtronics when he played at Ultra Miami, where his CDJs are kinda broken, the way he handled it was masterclass, and he hugged the guy who helped him fixed the CDJs. Not saying Hardwell is at fault, as he did mentioned he was not paid so I can tell why he is mad.

Saga festival has been sued by the municipality of Bucharest because they didnt pay their energy bill and Saga just closed their company, made a new one and organised this edition easy peasy. They also havent paid the people working at the bars last year. They were protesting in front of the saga building not a long time ago. Its just a scam of a festival so common sense does not apply to them

To summarize, it appears to be a money laundering scheme. It's interesting to see how foreigners adapt to the Romanian style and even assume greater risks.

On his level its not as easy as it is for me. I have called a friend who does pioneer repairs mid performance so that i could focus on the music while he did the google search for my issue
And keep in mind it's not only him who travelled to that festival to perform. He have the whole production working on to give the best performance the attendees can experience. Hardwell was cool at first but it seems like the technical team don't know what they're doing or what seems to be the problem. Such a huge disappointment.
Knowing hardwell sets and now seeing things from the beginning at least one of the CDJS wasn’t working right. And that’s bad when you have a set on your head counting on all four specially for a mashup specialist like hardwell. Probably a bad cable or a disconnected one but surely a bad mistake for a festival like this.

@@joshadriel I’m just guessing here. You need two CDJS for a traditional DJ SET. Thats why the set went normally untill he quit. However hardwell was pushing by using only two or three when he was prepared for using 4. It’s like holding a table on 2 legs instead of one. You can still do it but it’s much better and easy with 4. Some mashups are completely dependent on him being able to pre load and matchup 4 tracks at the time.

Question for lighting experts, how do you get the lighting and screens to be perfectly synchronized with the song that is currently playing? I find it incredible
Not a lighting expert but there is software or something that lets the lighting technicians see what the cdj’s are playing so that they can predict what will happen.
There's a software you use to script the lighting to the music. I believe DJs give the scripters their music beforehand so they can sync the lighting to their songs
The new pioneer and denon equipments have some serious problems. For example my denon standalone mixer was randomly half dead (some buttons like cue and play didnt worked only if i pressed them 2-3x times, effects didnt worked). Later i updated the mixer and then everything was perfect. I heard from some people that the new generation pioneer dj stuff have the same problems… i feel very bad for Hardwell, the saga management handled very bad this situation.

Not being paid is one thing, and is inexcusable. But what’s actually gone wrong with the setup that would prevent him playing on? I guess he’s on a short leash and not prepared to give them more of his time which is understandable.
My guess is one deck wasn’t working properly and since he actually dj he needed both decks and refused to do a poor quality set by just putting tracks back to back on one deck
@@thibautnoah2599 not sure if that quite explains it, there should be four decks if it’s a typical festival setup. Would be very unusual for cue / play buttons not to work. Maybe none of it is syncing up and he can’t access his songs on more than one deck.
@@benashford you’re generous by assuming that saga had 4 decks on the stage. But yeah even the smallest stage i’ve seen in NL always has 4 decks. They also have replacments ready to go. My friends play almost every weekend and they rarely have issues that bad, never saw them smashing a button to make it work.

@@Coolboy1095 Look up timecoding. Very simple nowadays to sync up visuals to what the dj is playing, especially if the lighting and visual team has custom made visuals. They can literally see what tracks the dj is queueing up in real time as they do it.
Sets are usually pre-planned with the festival organizers in advance They usually know exactly what tracks the dj will play in order so they know what visuals to put up for each track, etc. Or the visuals are made ahead of time with the set knowledge, hardwell for example mixes live but each track/mashup goes in a pre-planned order

@@bogdan755 Nicki Minaj canceled her show hours before entering the stage because of „protests” (which will actually be tomorrow and have nothing to do with the area of the city where Saga takes place).
The organizers could easily have explained to her that these are not violent protests (with guns/breaking stores like in the US), nor are these taking place anywhere near the festival. It seems like they didn't.
Or probably Nicki Minaj canceled her show for another more simple reason that we will find out next year and this is just a lame excuse with the protests. Either way, Saga was an absolute fail this year

I went into this video thinking he was going to be musically angry in that sense. I mean, I was expecting a track with an extremely fast BPM, but no, the guy was actually angry 😂, but he was right, like a rockstar 🤟🏻

Ppl bumping into the decks. Even had one dude that kept coming over and touching the spinning vinyl while I was mixing, completely fucking every mix up. Eventually I said to him you do that one more time and I'm gonna stop the music and come knock u the fuck out. He disappeared, then came back n done it again. B4 i even had a chance to cut the volume, my pal who had been watching the whole thing all along had chinned him out 👊🏼😂.. the music stayed on 🔊. Anyways, hats off to hardwell

Yep there is, pioneer released an update on the cdj's and now random crashes + usb sticks not getting recognized. With the 'invalid format error' as message.
The only reason people still use them isbecause rekordbox is still very good software. If Engine DJ was better i'd be showing up with my own Denon CDJ's

He ditched the festival but left some dope ID’s and mashups, there is still effort from his end and I love that🗣️
I think he could have still played, technically, but he would be essentially using a playlist, which wouldn't be good enough for any DJ worth their salt. He could've 'saved' the show, but given everything he had to deal with, I respect his decision to walk out rather than deliver a bad set.
Also you can see him carrying on with an emergency playlist, before something happens that was probably just confirming that they can't fix the equipment, and the whole set is gonna have to be the backup.
Last year it happened with James Hype at Tomorrowland, now with Hardwell.
The difference is. TML had exchanged the device withing a minute or so.

If something goes wrong their would be a company that solves the Problem with substitution of Equipment. How dumb are they? The shipping alone costs more than lending the Equipment locally

Saga festival has been sued by the municipality of Bucharest because they didnt pay their energy bill and Saga just closed their company, made a new one and organised this edition easy peasy. They also havent paid the people working at the bars last year. They were protesting in front of the saga building not a long time ago. Its just a scam of a festival so common sense does not apply to them

The first legal entity has problems with unpaid utilities and some partners (huge liabilities), while the second is still managed by the same company. Both festivals are managed by ALDA, a Dutch group, and their owners have shady pasts. However, the second legal entity operates from the same address as another company, which is also shady and has not reported their financials or made any revenue. To summarize, it appears to be a money laundering scheme. It's interesting to see how foreigners adapt to the Romanian style and even assume greater risks.

And keep in mind it's not only him who travelled to that festival to perform. He have the whole production working on to give the best performance the attendees can experience. Hardwell was cool at first but it seems like the technical team don't know what they're doing or what seems to be the problem. Such a huge disappointment.
Knowing hardwell sets and now seeing things from the beginning at least one of the CDJS wasn’t working right. And that’s bad when you have a set on your head counting on all four specially for a mashup specialist like hardwell. Probably a bad cable or a disconnected one but surely a bad mistake for a festival like this.

@@joshadriel I’m just guessing here. You need two CDJS for a traditional DJ SET. Thats why the set went normally untill he quit. However hardwell was pushing by using only two or three when he was prepared for using 4. It’s like holding a table on 2 legs instead of one. You can still do it but it’s much better and easy with 4. Some mashups are completely dependent on him being able to pre load and matchup 4 tracks at the time.

Question for lighting experts, how do you get the lighting and screens to be perfectly synchronized with the song that is currently playing? I find it incredible
Not a lighting expert but there is software or something that lets the lighting technicians see what the cdj’s are playing so that they can predict what will happen.
It's easy when these douchebags play pre-recorded sets
There's a software you use to script the lighting to the music. I believe DJs give the scripters their music beforehand so they can sync the lighting to their songs

The new pioneer and denon equipments have some serious problems. For example my denon standalone mixer was randomly half dead (some buttons like cue and play didnt worked only if i pressed them 2-3x times, effects didnt worked). Later i updated the mixer and then everything was perfect. I heard from some people that the new generation pioneer dj stuff have the same problems… i feel very bad for Hardwell, the saga management handled very bad this situation.

Not being paid is one thing, and is inexcusable. But what’s actually gone wrong with the setup that would prevent him playing on? I guess he’s on a short leash and not prepared to give them more of his time which is understandable.

My guess is one deck wasn’t working properly and since he actually dj he needed both decks and refused to do a poor quality set by just putting tracks back to back on one deck
@@thibautnoah2599 not sure if that quite explains it, there should be four decks if it’s a typical festival setup. Would be very unusual for cue / play buttons not to work. Maybe none of it is syncing up and he can’t access his songs on more than one deck.

They also have replacments ready to go.
My friends play almost every weekend and they rarely have issues that bad, never saw them smashing a button to make it work.

@@Coolboy1095 Look up timecoding. Very simple nowadays to sync up visuals to what the dj is playing, especially if the lighting and visual team has custom made visuals. They can literally see what tracks the dj is queueing up in real time as they do it.
Sets are usually pre-planned with the festival organizers in advance
They usually know exactly what tracks the dj will play in order so they know what visuals to put up for each track, etc. Or the visuals are made ahead of time with the set knowledge, hardwell for example mixes live but each track/mashup goes in a pre-planned order
