Thanks for the updates DJ - really appreciated! So.... What ARE the causes of the delay on the A380 coming back into service - you mentioned 'delays' a number of times - but NOT specifically what they are? I did hear the cabin refurb. comments, but htis is not a delay is i? I assumed this was scheduled?
Eight of the ten A380s (OQB, OQD, OQG, OQH, OQI, OQJ, OQK and OQL) are being used actively with at least seven of the eight in use daily. Three are used for the QF1/2 London via Singapore service, two on the QF11/12 Los Angeles service and one on the QF127/128 Hong Kong service. This accounts for six of the fleet. Another one is used for the QF93/94 Los Angeles service from Melbourne and ad hoc QF35/36 and QF37/38 Singapore services. Of these eight, I don't know how many have had the cabin refurbishment completed. The remaining two, OQA and OQC are in Abu Dhabi.
I thought compatibility was one of Airbus's selling points and why they kept their flight decks based on the same format. Understandably, there would be SOME difference between the smaller A-350 and A-380, mostly being size, but as far as flight controls go, not much difference! As far as the Thai order, the GE engine has become the proven engine for the 787 while RR has had some issues lately.
RR provided Trent 900s for the Thai A380's. Thai parked them up even after end of pandemic. RR supplied those on a "Power by the Hour" contract. So they made all those engines at a loss. Thai expected RR to compensate them for Trent 1000 issues. RR did. But Thai never compensated RR for their decision not to use the A380. So the new RR boss decided RR was not in business to supply Thai at a LOSS and reviewed the pricing structure. Thai didn't like it. RR don't need loss making business. Thai was JUST THAT!
The A380 is a class of its own. Its a brand not an aircraft only. And it provides capacity and a convenience level on long haul travel like not other airplane. The A350, 787, … are all nice planes but on a different level of comfort and with no specific experience. Sorry to say.
The A380 is brilliant and is the choice of passengers all over the world . Unfortunately the bean counters killed it prematurely and it is only now that airlines realize it's potential.
@@xcel5203Global Airlines is a British startup airline aiming to begin operations from London to New York City and Los Angeles in spring 2024, using a fleet of four refurbished Airbus A380s.
Nope. Should have ordered the A350 newer higher class of plane. Too bad ceo of Thai airways got into a spitting contest with RR and had to resort to ordering 787 with GE engines.
I feel like Qantas need some type of plane between B787 and A380, I know they ordered A35k, but are they gonna use them on other routes besides project sunrise?
Qantas retired 2 A380’s (VH-OQE & VH-OQF) and salvaged the spare parts to support the remaining 10 A380’s. This was done at Victorville, CA, USA in 2022.
Qantas should follow the example of Lufthansa and Emirates in how they brought their A 380s back into service and the new maintenance package they put in place. Its a pity and another disappointment from Qantas.
I know there has been some looking into allowing pilots to be rated simultaneously on the 777 and 787, since both are twin-jets and have somewhat similar cockpits. But, allowing pilots to fly both the A350, with 2 engines, and the A380, vastly larger and with 4 engines, seems less than sound.
Think airbus was foolish in their thinking of abolishing the A380 this clearly seems to be a secondary market so maybe an updated version would have been more pleasing to the market
We kept being told that the much loved A380 was a dinosaur in the aviation world, outpaced by smaller more fuel efficient planes. During the covid years many were parked up with gloomy forecasts of mass scrappings, yet now it seems some airlines can't get enough of them, and are basing a lot of their future business models into the 2030s around them. Which makes me wonder about what will replace them then if there is still a demand for such a plane.
I assume that large discounts are now available on Boeing aircraft due to them having to pick up the crumbs from Airbus order table, Boeing only get the orders when Airbus cannot supply because of massive order waiting list....
The last time I checked the orders for the dreamliner is by far more than the a350. The difference is over 800 orders. So you can't be telling me Boeing is eating from airbus' crumbs
Good one Chris.. I don't see a massive order waiting list on the A330 neo.. A type fighting for left-over 787 crumbs.!!! We know how that's going for them.!! Your theory may work on the 737, as for the 787; Dream on !!!

The issue isnt just the size, but weight. A lot of airports (Perth for example) only have certain taxiways certified to be used by it, even though it can technically fit in others, it weight would likely destroy them.

The cockpit is essentially the same. Airbus uses a similar cockpit setup across it's whole range allowing for pilots to be trained on other aircraft quickly (the A220 being the obvious exception).
Qantas’s problem is decisions made by the previous MD . He set a ridiculously slow timetable for its redeployment.

The A380 Qantas landing was so surreal dude, awesome..

They should of bought more 380s … The Australian public love the plane and prefer it for long haul

Cost effective? Not much. Good that your not running an airline.
Qantas bringing 7 of 8 back? Doesn't sound too bad given Qantas doing its best to ramp up prices and so limiting passenger numbers.
