During that time, any progressive that seek democratic reformation would either be branded as communist spies, or terrorist dissidents if they are more well known. If ou aren't worth a show trial, then you would simply disappeared, likely kidnap at night by military police. Taiwan at the time had just been transfered from being a Japanese Colony to a Chinese Province. Many Taiwanese identify themselves as Japanese Colonists and one of the key aspect of the campaign was to remove all culture that is not orthodox Chinese. Many students are forced to speak only Chinese and speaking Japanese or regional Taiwanese dialogue would lead you to public humiliation in school assembly and "DETENTION". Yes the school principle will call you out in front of the whole school on how much you sucks. Funny story, there is a Taiwanese version of 'f**k', so ya curse in Chinese will get you stern look from teachers and curse in Taiwanese land you in like 10 'DETENTIONS'. My parents have plenty of crazy school story during this period. Anyway not only the game setting is the period, there are also metaphorical references. So, not only is the game based on dark events in the history of taiwan, apparently the studio who made the game is just a few people from there, who wants to tell the stories of his country in cool ways, so people understand their history and symbolism better. That sounds like an excellent idea to me, really. Wish more people would do things like that.

As a Taiwanese I'm surprised to see this, very surprised, I thought all game industry in Taiwan ever do is importing game from other countries. It's very nice to see someone still trying.
I like how we go from "Diamond Sutra is the next step up from 'Kama' Sutra" and "I'll do whatever it takes!" to "Yah, yank that crank my man." Oh, Mr. Cox, whatever will we do with you.
Maybe it's just me and my asian roots, but when I saw this game's trailer at the Co-optional Podcast, I got immediately spooked. Perhaps familiarity with the setting. Not a Taiwanese, but the school's classroom, layout and general atmosphere reminded me of the schools over here, especially the ones from the province. Haven't finished watching the video yet, so maybe I won't be as scared. Then again, I don't have that much resistance against spooks... Also, the title screen's already creeping me out.
