  • My first visit to this wonderful exhibition for over thirty years. Having decided to build a model railway once again after such a long time I've visited a couple of shows to gain some ideas. The Manchester show was always been one of my favourites and it was well up to it's previous very high standard this year. The video includes most of the layouts on display apart from one or two which are not included, for which I apologise. This was purely down to the cameraman not doing his job properly! Many thanks to all the exhibitors for allowing me to film their wonderful models. The video was filmed on Sunday 4th.December 2016

Just the video to watch on a cold, damp day in January. Bring on the steam. Thoroughly enjoyed it all.

Like you I recently visited a model train exhibition (NSW) to gain ideas. but it's through watching your videos of main line steam over the years that encouraged me to make the effort. My last layout was back in the 1970s and it was 30 years later that I decided to go TT, despite a rag tag collection of 00, H0 and N. Then I acquired a large collection of Z. So I expect to go to my grave without having built a layout, still trying to decide on what scale! Good luck with your layout, mate.

Thanks very much John. I hope you get that layout built, it's never too late, never thought I'd ever do it again but track is laid and partly wired so I'm getting there

This is a fantastic example of how to video layouts! You have managed to make each shot interesting. The "ground level" shots are particularly good. I also liked the fact you showed various aspects of the layouts apart from just trains passing. Very well done indeed!

Thank you for your kind comments which are all the more appreciated as it was my first attempt at filming at an exhibition. Still a lot to learn I think before the next one

Thanks very much. I agree, it is a fabulous layout and I'd say attracted the most crowds which made filming opportunities limited so I haven't done it justice really

Amazing standard, variety and precision engineering, on all the clips you've shown Austin! The attention to detail in street traffic, trams and human activity is quite remarkable. Well presented and captured - well worth your visit! Thank you. Ken

Great video Austin. Filming model railways is a whole different discipline isn't it?
Welcome back to the world of model railways!

Thanks Noel, the model railway scene is so different to the last time I had a railway, with huge improvements in the quality of ready to run models and scenic items. Filming the models is definitely not easy!

Some very impressive modelling has been taking place to produce these layouts Austin. I used to get quite disappointed by little (but maybe tricky) things like no operating signals but noticed quite a few on display. Some of the detailing is so good. Chris

Thanks Chris. There were some wonderful examples of the model makers art on display at this exhibition, the attention to detail is what makes them stand out I think

Brilliant video Austin, I also went to the exhibition on the Saturday to gain some ideas for our layout (end to end set in the 1960s) which we have. The three layouts I liked most were The Worlds End , The End of The Line and Portchullin.
    Regards JamesandPeter

    • @acw71000
      @acw71000  7 лет назад

Thanks James, the three you picked were all excellent. I'd have to pick Porthchullin as my favourite, simple design but extremely well detailed and wonderful weathering on the locos and stock. I'm building an end to end based on the Harz. So many improvements since the last time I was involved with modelling

Stunning Layouts Austin, and great camera work. It must reflect the current times, when the great Mr Whitehhead has reverted to Models Railways....Having said that a great inspiration for your own upcoming project.....Bob

Just plain old Mr. Whitehead thanks Bob, no greatness here. It was an excellent exhibition, I wouldn't say I've reverted to model railways due to the lack of full size action, purely getting ideas for my own layout

Thanks for watching. I certainly got plenty of ideas at the show. At the time I was building my first layout in over thirty years having been away from the hobby for that length of time. Fair to say there had been one or two changes in that time!

you're not the only one, it takes me know several times to get the

complicated setup I used to be able to get it right at the first time
