    It seems like Airfix used Eduards molding & assembly techniques from their "tan plastic" kits, like the 190"D". Beautiful and thoughtful work on the fues/ wing , & fuel tank cover corrections.

    Thanks Paul for another informative and practical video. There are two brands I always shied away from due to sketchy manufacturing, one was Airfix the other was Testors. Years ago I decided to build the Testors SR-71, oh boy! Never had I seen such slop! Needless to say it was not an enjoyable experience, since then I pay closer attention to reviews and professionals in order to avoid disappointing expectations. Given the asking price for certain kits it should be mandatory before purchasing.

    Mr. Buznik, as far as construction and accuracy go I think you are bar non the number one modeller our there. I also like how you choose not to do too much weathering which really emphasizes the esthetics of the subject rather than getting the viewer distracted by heavy dirty (many times grossly unrealistic) weathering. I do believe a man of your talent and skills you are also capable of weathering techniques if you choose to. But I really enjoy the museum look of you models. Such a perfectionist you are. Thank you for painstakingly making these top notch videos. I wish you will release some modeling books and DVDs one day.

      I absolutely agree with you on this one. Weathering should be done with moderation in order to be actually realistic. I see this blunder way too many times.

      Mr. Wang: Dr. Budzick is a dentist by trade. This displays in his uncompromising, objective analysis of kits and the problems that need to be addressed. In addition, he uses common sense procedures to solve those problems. I am sure these traits were honed over years in his dental practice.

    Mr. Budzik,
    Let me start by saying I am a great fan of your work. Thank you for all the tips and reviews.
    Can you please help me with the following question: Which is the best filler for plastics models that will let you scribe over with no issues?

    • @jimmytgoose476
      @jimmytgoose476 Год назад

      Gap filling superglue . Can be polished smooth as glass and scribed without issues .

    Good simple fixes........that should not really have been needed on a new tooled kit in 2019. With some more attention to detail by Airfix in the first place these issues wound not be there.

      I am starting the Revell 1/32 Spitfire IIa and that could be a much better kit had they just payed attention to detail and added an engine and pilot They got a smack on the hand from me lol

    • @jimmytgoose476
      @jimmytgoose476 Год назад

      Most aircraft modelers don't use the figures in kits and aren't bothered about engines either . If you need those then you buy the Tamiya kit ....and pay 3 or 4 times as much for it .

    I didn't care for the canopy gap where it meets the fuselage at the rear, but reverting to the traditional canopy makes that a moot point..

    Thank you sir! I will never look at a kit the same way again. You mentioned “what they are doing with plastic these days” when comparing the quality of this kit to the very best latest offerings. In the past few years, is there a 1/48 kit that stands above the rest in terms of fidelity to scale, fit and accuracy? The Tamiya Bf-109G comes to mind. Thank you in advance for your thoughts and advice.

    • @scale-model-workshop
      @scale-model-workshop  4 года назад +1

      As far as fit, I think the latest Spitfire MkI from Tamiya is near perfiect. The only questionable piece is the little front piece that spans the upper cowling. The rest of the kit is a jewel.

    hi paul, it's funny because i actually expected these modifications. watching all your videos is starting to make effect!
    in the last one, you differentiated a real model maker from someone who has been building models for some time. what exactly makes the difference in your opinion? i would really like developing this topic

    Dr. B: It looks as though Airfix originally built the mold without a separate part for the fuel tank cover. I say this because the edges around the opening for the cover look like they originally had panel lines engraved and then the material to fill that area was added to the mold. Is it possible that the mold makers changed their plan mid-stream? To me this raises the question of who the team was who designed/ executed the mold, and what were their goals? It’s like Airfix is going backwards on this kit. I was so looking forward to a decent Mk. XIV...

    • @scale-model-workshop
      @scale-model-workshop  5 лет назад

      Actually, I hadn't thought of that, but it would explain the remnants of the panel lines. It would have been much simpler and more precise if they had molded it in-place and properly raised. I see no upside for doing it the way they did.

    • @johngalt3568
      @johngalt3568 5 лет назад

      Yes sir, agreed. The contours of the kit would have been fine without that particular feature. I’m questioning whither there is another marque that they intend to render that had a significant difference in that area. I can’t think of what it would be. This reminds me of the Monogram kits from the ‘70’s that had open panels to show off questionable detail: the P-51D, F-80, P-61 and the TBD all come to mind. These kits made it harder to render an accurate, attractive model than they would have without the “features”.

    • @jimmytgoose476
      @jimmytgoose476 Год назад

      It IS a decent mk. XIV . Any competant modeler can get a good result from this kit , it doesn't need aftermarket and it doesn't cost 50 quid .

    G’day Paul, What is going on at Airfix? They used to be the best of the best in plastic casting with intricate detail and crisp, close joins especially in the main fuselage joints. Their quality control has been slipping for years now or maybe they are saving money on the master molds. Whatever the reason, they are no longer the model company that got me hooked many, many years ago. Thank you so much for the fix tips that really shouldn’t be needed in the first place. Cheers, BH
