@@achocolatefyresign8585 google Republican Ralph Hudgens “In 2008, lawmakers handed insurers the freedom to increase rates on some types of coverage without first getting state approval. Two years later, a state senator who backed that law was elected Georgia’s insurance commissioner after the reign of two commissioners who prided themselves on being stingy regulators when it came to auto insurance prices.
Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens, a former chairman of the Georgia Senate Insurance Committee, calls his job “a balancing act.”

@@johnwarwick7684 I mean that’s at least an opinion related to the actual story.
Calling this a price control fundamentally misses the point of the video all together. There is nothing related to price controls in the story.
The fact that your first sentence says “control prices……..” is what I was referring to. You’re missing my point. Which, now that I think about, shouldn’t be surprising since you also missed the point of the video.
ETA: also, people blame criminals all the time. That’s why they wind up in jail. This law is ALSO holding the property owner tea for allowing the criminals to commit crimes. Not either or. Yes and.

How can a business owner know what a criminal “might” do?
I can understand an insurance premium being adjusted for having, or lacking security cameras, adequate lighting, adequate locks, security alarms, adequate staffing but…
this seems to be litigation insurance.
Looks like a grift by insurance companies…because there is no way that a business owner can know if a potential criminal will have a gun and will shoot someone who’s on the business property.

An employee at my job got his car stolen few weeks ago from the apartment complex he resides and he has never been in a car accident and always paid his premiums on time for almost 10years. And when his car was stolen and recovered by police his insurance company didnt want to pay for anything and gave him a hard time about it as well. So if youre making payments on time each month and NEVER cause or get into an accident you will be penalized for doing the right thing. Insurance companies make it make sense cause if thats the case why are we all paying for insurance and dealing with cost increases and never getting a pay out when something do happens.

This is idiotic! How are businesses supposed to prevent crime when they have no law enforcement authority? I don't necessarily think crime can be prevented.
I've got an idea. How about the law enforcement agencies put police substations in the low income housing projects and do law enforcement.
This reminds me of a case years ago where a small convenience store on a street corner was suffering a lot of criminal activity.
There was an effort put forward to shut down the business. The owner was going to be put out of business because of crime on the street just outside his business.
One group calling for this was the SCLC. I wrote to the asking why they wanted to shut the business down and pointed out that the crime would just move a couple of blocks down the street and create another "nuisance business" as they were called. That would continue to happen until that poor neighborhood had no convenience stores left.
A few days later the SCLC dropped their demands for the business to be closed.
Preventing crime is the responsibility of the government not the citizen.
Lastly I noticed there were a lot of security cameras. It's been proven time and time again that security cameras do not prevent crime they only document crime. Unless those cameras are monitored very closely and backed up by an agency that has the authority to arrest they do no good..

It's not just going to cost the state; it's going to cost the country. After receiving a $4,600 insurance bill for three vehicles, two are 10 years old and one that is 20. This is inexcusable and will not be tolerated. I have already sold one vehicle and the other two are up for sale. As soon as I finish selling everything off, I will be leaving for the Philippines. Funny, the insurance company could have had something instead they chose to have nothing and that's exactly what they're going to have. The state of Georgia could have had some future tax money instead they chose to have nothing and that's exactly what they're going to have. Funny how that works!

Also saying that the cost is pass on to other tax payers isn’t true because CVS isn’t a low income housing property. Show the printed law. 600 cameras on one property can easily be checked. Did anyone check?

The law should be in place. It protects patrons. However if companies want to avoid paying high premiums pay to keep your location safe, ( to ensure undesirables and undesirable activity does not occur). Companies liability premiums are assessed by looking at something called an experience rating. An experience rating is basically a companies claims history alongside the safety measures they put in place to avoid risk... - Corporate Risk Manager

This only hurts businesses who do not make attempts to keep their property safe. Who wants to go to a place to work, eat or sleep and it isn't safe?? You get hurt and now you can't work because you were injured, or killed??? Whose responsible if the company or property owner has a HISTORY of negligent acts??
I'm a former litigation adjuster who handled these types of claims and I'm also a former paralegal case manager for one of the largest personal injury law firms. I'VE SEEN BOTH SIDES
FYI....All commercial businesses have to have premise liability coverage.
The issue is at hand are businesses who failed to take measures to properly make their premises safe. When they don't then they are hit with punitive damages(punishment) for failing to maintain safe premises.
